  1. I can tell you one thing... if I had been driving my Impala, with 1960s drum brakes, I would have plowed right into that guy.
  2. It's amazing how often this type of thing happens to me. And I can't be the only one. You're right... the number of moron drivers around here is scary.
  3. Why not just send him a PM? Or look up his profile page... his email is listed there.
  4. Well, as hard to believe as this is, it happened again earlier this afternoon. Clueless wonder pulling out right in front of me. The details: I'm driving down a typical suburban street in my town... doing maybe 40 MPH or so... probably even less. Up ahead I see a white car pulled off on the side of the road, actually up on the shoulder. I don't know why, but I instantly got a feeling this car was going to be trouble. And I was right. This genius pulled out into the street (to his left and into oncoming traffic... me) when I was maybe 50-75 feet from him. He literally pulled out right in front of me and made a U-turn. Needless to say I leaned on the horn at the same time as I slammed on the brakes. He passed across the road in front of me maybe 10-15 feet from my car at the most. It all happened so fast that I don't even remember the make of car or if the driver was male or female. Un-freaking-believable!
  5. And if the G-force didn't kill you, the fact that the entire car was crushed into a two-foot-long mess would certainly kill you instantly. There is absolutely no way a human can survive a 150 MPH crash into a fixed object.
  6. I don't mean to offend anyone (really!)... but I think it's pretty obvious that many people (not all) who build simplistic models and then criticize those who build fully detailed models are actually dealing with a bit of either intimidation or jealousy or both. I can see that there are those people who could do more, but really don't enjoy anything more than a straight out-of-the-box buildup. But I think that there are plenty of those "basic builders" who feel like they can't do any better, but instead of working on their skills, they rationalize it by saying they just build "for fun" or just "for themselves" rather than push themselves to get better. Just my opinion, of course... but I'm pretty sure of it.
  7. We used to have specific holidays in this country. Now there's so much bleed-over between holidays–we now don't celebrate Christmas but it seems like all of December... after Halloween we are in the "holiday season"...we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day anymore, it's somehow morphed into Thanksgiving week... it's now the Fourth of July weekend, etc... seems like every day is either a holiday or the day before or after one!
  8. That video makes it even harder to believe that this Plymouth crashed into a tree at 150 and the driver survived. Like I said way back... impossible. And the damage is inconsistent with a head-on crash into a fixed object at 150. Something in this story doesn't add up.
  9. I agree... everyone's idea of "good enough" is different. For some people, just putting together the parts in the box is good enough... they would never even consider doing anything further, and they're perfectly happy building at that level. For others, the idea of just putting together the parts in the box without doing anything above that level would never be good enough. They aren't happy unless they take their building to a higher level, and to them, taking it up a notch or two or more is the fun part. And then there are those who do neither. They aren't interested in building kits... they are happy to just collect kits. They get their satisfaction in a different way, and that's ok, too. There are a lot of ways to enjoy model cars, but there's no "right" way.
  10. Did you forget to paint the engine block? And the wheels and especially the grille are crying out for a black wash.
  11. Almost everyone forgets to add the muffler bearings and the Johnson rod...
  12. Beautifully done! The lawnmower is especially cool!
  13. No politics allowed here...
  14. What is this obsession with chopping up cars and making them short? First we had the shortened Cadillac thread, now this... I don't see the point of doing that to a car. Maybe I just don't get it... but I don't get it.
  15. You have more problems with car breakdowns than any other person I've ever known!
  16. They started in Oklahoma.
  17. No. But I should!
  18. Good thing they moved the aorta out of the thumb years ago...
  19. Teach a little one? I still cut myself with my X-acto every so often!
  20. One of the best of this kit I have ever seen.
  21. Something doesn't add up here. The photos of the wrecked car don't correspond to what you would expect to see after a car hits a fixed object at well over 100 MPH. The engine would have been in the front seat. There is definitely more to this story than "car hits tree at 150 MPH." The damage is completely inconsistent with that sort of impact.
  22. Where is it written that an older man in a hobby shop is a pervert? That's ridiculous.
