Oh! I almost forgot! I'd buy a big bike. I like the new Indians. Problem is I don't know how to ride... have never done it. But I could learn...

Jim, you're my kind of guy. The simple things in life are all you need to be happy...
-
Do it! Then post the results. I'd love to see it.

Because the odds are that I wouldn't agree with some of their spending decisions, and would probably try to play the "parent card" and tell them how I think they should be using the money. It's inevitable that as a parent, you would tend to want to control or influence their decisions to some degree... so I'd rather invest and grow it, and then they inherit it after I'm gone and either spend or invest as they see fit without my (or their mother's) interference. That way we avoid all possible arguments about the money and how it should be best used. It would be 100% their decision, right or wrong.

Such a bummer: Chinese-built Craftsman tools.

Exactly. That's our problem as a nation and a society, boiled down to one succinct sentence. -
If I won millions in the lottery I would definitely try to keep it anonymous. I wouldn't even tell my kids, because I want them to live normal lives, not lives driven by money. Of course, they would all get a nice surprise after I checked out... but I wouldn't tell them or give them the money while I was still around. I would try as hard as I could to not live an extravagant life... I'd try to invest almost all of it, and let my kids enjoy it after I'm gone. About the only thing I wish I had, but don't have, because I can't afford it, is a really cool car. I would probably splurge and buy myself a really nice car, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with what I have. But it would be pretty cool to be able to buy pretty much anything I wanted without having to check the price first!

Almost everyone who wins a huge amount of money sees their life change, usually for the worse. Having an endless supply of money allows you to make choices you couldn't make if you didn't have the money... choices you would never have even considered because it just wasn't possible. Suddenly you have all this cash and your previous sense of reality and common sense get blown away, and you tend to go a bit crazy and tend to make stupid decisions.

Looks like this was a tough one... only three correct answers this week! The car is a 1932-33 Stoewer 140 (or 150, depending on engine displacement). http://www.powerful-cars.com/php/stoewer/1932-r140-r150.php Who got it right: MikeMc Badluck 13 customsrus

Matt Heney, aka Mojodoctor, died recently.
Harry P. replied to Chillyb1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I "met" him when I was a member of the SA forum back when dinosaurs still ruled the earth. Sorry to hear this. And BTW... thanks to Mojodoctor for "Auto ID." He is the guy who ran it back in the day on the SA forum, before the great purge, when management decided one day to erase a significant portion of their forum and drove many of us away. But on the bright side, that event was the reason I found this place, RIP, Matt. -
Ok, I agree it's an unusual color scheme, and nice to see something different. But the white seats in an otherwise tan interior don't work. A nice model, very well built and showing a high level of skill and craftsmanship... but sorry, the white seats/tan everything else don't work for me.
-
Ok, then... I guess you're one step ahead of me! Nice model.

sad state of affairs i got really mad

Let's keep the political comments off the forum, please. We all know where political and religious topics end up. That's why we don't allow either here. -
Well... I never thought I'd put a Neil Diamond song into the heavy metal category.... But pretty cool! They were faithful to the original while still putting their own spin on it.

When Syd Barret was still the driving force behind PF, they were definitely verrrrrrry trippy. I admire the musical talent and innovation of early PF, but to be honest, for me they didn't really hit their stride until after Syd flipped out and went his own way... wherever that was! Having said that, I do like the song "See Emily Play," which Syd wrote.

Over the top is the only way. From underneath is un-American and subversive!

Unraveling the Snake pit - Building a AA/FC in the late 60's
Harry P. replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
It was published in Car Model... article by Jim Keeler, I believe. -
We get some crazy temperature swings here in the midwest, especially in early spring. It's not uncommon for the temp to vary 30-40 degrees from one day to the next. The "normal" daily high temp for this time of year is only the mid 60s... so we're way above "normal" today.

You guys need to step up your game! It's Thursday afternoon, and so far I have only two correct answers!
-
Looks like you could carve it out of a block of basswood, seal, sand, prime and paint.
-
Well, I'm going to cautiously declare winter OVER. As I type this, it's 92 degrees here!

Let's lay off the political commentary, gentlemen. I'm sure we all have an opinion on Obamacare (I know I sure do!)... but politics are off-limits here. BTW, as far as doctors running behind and you having to wait despite having an appointment... I'm sure that people who show up late for their appointment (it happens all the time) can mess up the doctor's schedule for the day for subsequent patients.
-
Looks good! You might want to try a black wash on the wheel covers to bring out the detail a bit.
-
Fun stuff. I've always been a fan of that sort of thing.

I paid $750 for them (bought new) when I was in college. That was big money for a college kid back in the late 70s, let me tell ya! But I was an audiophile nut back then... all of my stereo components had to be high-end stuff. But the cool thing is, I still have them. So you could say I really got my money's worth out of that investment. I could probably sell them today for more than I paid for them back in the day... they're pretty collectible.

"Solitary Man" is my favorite Neil Diamond song, and this version by Chris Isaak and Stevie Nicks is a great cover... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrkai_o0uiU
