That "dry heat" really is true. Around here, when it gets into the 90s, the humidity is usually way up there, too. It's like a sauna. You can sit in the shade under a tree, not move a muscle, and sweat. I remember one trip I made to Las Vegas a few years ago. We walked the entire strip, from the Luxor to the Stratosphere, in 100 degree + temps, and didn't even break a sweat.

I remember the first time I was ever in Phoenix. Got on the plane here at O'Hare... fly to Phoenix. Exit the plane through the accordion thingie... into the air-conditioned terminal. So far, so good. Everything seems normal... Then I step outside the terminal for the first time to hail a cab. WOW! It was literally like stepping into an oven.

"But it's a dry heat."

I guess you're taking one for the team...

You guys out there live in a whole 'nother world!

The Aurora kit has front shocks but no rears. I used a pair from the Fuman Mercer kit. First I had to change the angle of the shock arms... stock on the left, altered on the right: Then, following the only reference photo I could find of the Stutz rear shocks and their mounts, I scratchbuilt the mounting brackets and added the Mercer kit's adjustable friction disks: This will make more sense once I post the photo of the shocks after they are installed.

Has anyone bought Girl Scout Cookies lately..?
Harry P. replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The story I heard was the Girl Scouts do not tell the kids where they may or may not set up shop... it's the parent's decision. Apparently it depends on the specific state... ""The mom decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being,” Dana Allen, director of marketing and communications for Girl Scouts of Northern California, told Mashable. "We're not telling people where they can and can't go if it's a legitimate business." -
Nope. Too small for me. Besides, I already have my Lindberg T built. I was talking in the generic sense, as in nice to see another source of model car kits.

My Mustang's battery gave out in late November, two days before Thanksgiving. I remember because I was going to see my daughters downstate on Thanksgiving. I remember trying to start the car and it barely turned over. Went to my mechanic and had a new battery installed that very day... and perfect timing, considering the weather we've had since then!!!

Maybe I ought to give this kit a try... BTW... you really did a good job on it.

Oldest Batmobile ever?
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Did you happen to actually read the article? "Although it was never officially the Caped Crusader’s car, a Batman comics-inspired vehicle – designed and built by a teenager in the early 1960s and left to rot for decades in the back of a Chicago warehouse – has been brought back to its original crime-fighting form. Created on a whim by young Forrest Robinson of Westmoreland, N.H, its swoopy, triple-tailfin body was formed from fiberglass and mated to the chassis of a 1956 Oldsmobile years before George Barris sketched his iconic car for the Batman TV series." -
Oh, I can admire a nicely done illustration or slickly designed box cover. Absolutely. And there is a lot of very cool box art out there done by some pretty talented people. No question about that. I especially like Sean Svendsen's Moebius Chryslet kit art. Pretty cool, if you ask me. But the question was have you ever bought a model kit based strictly on the picture on the box. I would never buy a kit based strictly on the picture on the cover, no matter how well done. Because like I said, they can put anything on the box, and its relationship to what's actually in the box ranges from pretty solid to nonexistent.

I don't know how you guys out there can survive the endless days of sunshine and temps in the 80s-90s. Just brutal.

No secret. I spray in the garage. Unheated. I spray and get the heck back in the house ASAP!

I'm tired of making a second mortgage payment to the gas company every month!

Ditto, big time! You have some serious skills! What a spectacular model.

Warm up? I just heard that the forecast low for Wednesday night is supposed to be 8 below zero. That would break the all-time record low for cold temp for that date (Feb. 26). Spring? That's just a rumor...

Classic Japanese sports duo: Toyota 2000GT and Datsun 240ZG
Harry P. replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Cars
Beautifully done! They look good together! -
Not exactly an "expected" color for a cop car, but you guys out there in the desert do things differently. Nice model.

I hear the Girl Scouts are making a killing selling their cookies outside of "medical marijuana" stores! -
Competed 1955 mild custom Chrysler 300 coupe
Harry P. replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in Model Cars
Nice work, Peter. You're our "King of the Kustom" for sure... -
Ditto. I'm not paying for the box art. I'm paying for what's inside the box. They can put anything on the box. A photo. An illustation. A highly airbrushed photo of the... ahem..."actual model." An "artist's rendition" of what's in the box. The box art may accurately reflect what's actually in the box, but too often it has nothing to do with what you just spent your money on.

Nicely done. The graphics are pretty cool. Not a bad use of eight bucks! -
What type of "Box Art" do you prefer?
Harry P. replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A photo of the actual model built from what's in the box. An informed consumer and all that...
