  1. Regarding Pat's homemade bathroom fan booth... Aren't bathroom exhaust fans "explosion-proof," or brushless? I mean, hairspray is pretty flammable. Would't bathroom exhaust fans have to be the explosion-proof kind, per building codes? Wouldn't they be ok to use in a homemade spray booth? Just asking...
  2. I'm with Skip. I couldn't care less about originality, as I don't enter contests or in any way compare my work to what others do. I build models because I like to build models. I enjoy the process. That's the only reason I do it. What others do, and how they build a particular model, has absolutely no effect or impact on what I build or how I build it. I don't care if there are dozens of models out there built by others that happen to look like mine. Makes absolutely no difference to me.
  3. Avatar should be 200x200 pixels max.
  4. Nobody is under any obligation to explain their private business here, "bad trader" or not. A trade is a private transaction entered into willingly by both parties; this forum is not a jury, and this is not the place to put a "bad trader" on trial. And if a person isn't responding to emails or PMs... why would he suddenly respond if he's labeled a "bad trader" publicly? And if by some chance he actually did respond, what do you figure he'll say? That yes, he's a bad trader and deserves to be publicly scorned? Of course not. Much more likely, his response would be that it's the other guy who's lying. And then we have the classic "he said, she said" situation which solves absolutely nothing. This whole idea of publicly outing a "bad trader" doesn't work, it doesn't solve anything and it's not going to be allowed here. Work it out in private. If you can't work it out, just move on.
  5. We mods have talked, and the decision is that we won't allow people to post "bad traders" by name here. Here's why: Hypothetical (but very possible) situation 1: Trader A does a trade, he never gets his end of the deal from trader B. The reason: trader B mistakenly put "1243 Main Street" on the package instead of "1234 Main Street," so trader A never got his package. Trader B insists he sent it out, trader A says he never got it and posts trader B's name as a "bad trader," even though trader B didn't knowingly do anything wrong. Hypothetical (but very possible) situation 2: Trader A says he never got trader B's part of the deal. Trader B tells trader A that yes, he did send it out. Trader A doesn't believe him, names trader B a "bad trader" publicly. The reason trader A didn't get his stuff from trader B? The post office lost it. So neither trader A nor trader B really knows the facts, yet trader A insists trader B is a "bad trader" and calls him out publicly. These are just two possible scenarios where trader A is convinced that trader B isn't holding up his end of the bargain (or vice versa)... when in fact the so-called "bad trader" isn't really a bad trader at all. So you can see that it's easy to publicly call out someone as a "bad trader," but sometimes the facts don't coincide with the accusation. Yes, there are times when there really is a "bad trader," but the fact is, many times a perfectly innocent person can be labeled wrongly as a "bad trader." We don't want to be put in the middle of that type of situation, and besides, we have no authority to resolve any "bad trade" one way or another anyway... so the rule will be no naming of "bad traders" here on the forum.
  6. Another beauty. Dang, man... you have some real talent.
  7. Hard to add anything that hasn't already been said. Cute car, beautifully done model. A definite 10.
  8. What if you were considered a bad trader by someone. What if you sent the parts to the other person, but the package was lost in the mail? So according to him, he never got the package from you. You say you sent the package, the other guy says he never got it. Are you ok with being publicly labeled a "bad trader" by the guy who never got his package? See how labeling someone a "bad trader" in public can unfairly give a guy an undeserved reputation? Sure, sometimes the other guy really is a bad trader. But how do you know for sure?? Is it fair when someone who actually did come through with his part of the deal is labeled a "bad trader" because you never received his package (through no fault of his?) Maybe it was lost by the post office. Maybe he wrote the wrong address on the package. Who knows? There are ways that a package may have been sent, but never received. Throwing around accusations without proof is a dangerous thing. Publicly labeling people as "bad traders" can be an unfair accusation. I really don't think it's appropriate to label anyone a "bad trader" in public. You work it out with the other person in private. And if you can't work it out, you live and learn. Trading with people always carries an inherent risk. You need to realize that before you agree to a trade, especially with someone you've never dealt with before.
  9. He quit a long time ago. And even before he quit, there's only so much he could do. All he could do is try to get the two sides to work it out, but he couldn't make them do anything. Ultimately, trading is a gamble.
  10. Real or model? The answer: REAL!
  11. That's exactly right. The proportions are cartoonish, either in photos or in person. All the hard work and good intentions in the world don't necessarily equal a successful result. I don't for a minute argue against all the hard work and craftsmanship that went into this. All I'm saying is that the result is very silly looking. It just plain doesn't work.
  12. Whenever you decide to trade with someone, you're on your own. This site can't possibly act as the "trading police," we have no way of knowing the facts, and even if we had all the facts, we have no way of making anybody do anything. Trade at your own risk. There are no guarantees.
  13. Most people don't post anything during the construction stage, they only post the finished model. So "Under Glass" is the only time anyone gets to see the model and make comments.
  14. Cool! That really turned out nice!
  15. Don't know if the swap is possible, but as far as entering it in a contest, that's ok... unless you are entering the "Box Stock" class, which is the class where you can only use the parts that came in the kit box. No parts swapping allowed in that category.
  16. Anyone can put a photo online and name it anything they want to name it, correct or not. I have to assume that Pontiac knew what they were selling when they printed their 1948 sales brochure. There is no mention anywhere of a "Silver Streak" model.
  17. I didn't see any roof mounted siren, so I figured that weird thing under the hood had to be the siren. Hey, I'm just happy my question wasn't so stupid after all!
  18. Yeah, me too! Now why didn't I think of that? Thanks, Skip!
  19. Not everyone from Chicago is corrupt!
  20. Sox lost their opener 3-2...
  21. I think the color suits it pretty well. And BTW... nice photos, too!
