  1. I think you mean that he never ceases to amaze you...
  2. Ok, time is not scalable, it's a constant, right? So if a 1/1 car covers one mile in 60 seconds, it's traveling at 60 mph (a mile every minute). If a 1/25 car covers a "scale" mile (1/25th of a mile) in the same 60 seconds, it's covering 1/25 of a mile every minute, or a full mile in 25 minutes. So 60 mph in 1/25 scale is 2.4 mph? Right? Edit: Didn't see Junkman's post... he already covered it.
  3. Votes made AFTER I give the answer don't count.
  4. Very cool! Your grandpa was quite the modeler.
  5. The blacked-out grille and body-color bumper is kind of a neat idea. Looking forward to more progress shots...
  6. Didn't many of his "rebuilds" consist of custom paint and wheels? (Yeah, I'm not a big fan)...
  7. 1947 Delahaye 135MS 2+2 by Saoutchik
  8. How about a photo or two? Especially the "aged" signs.
  9. You guys couldn't decide! Final vote: 34 REAL, 34 MODEL! It's real!
  10. Did you get my PM?
  11. Nice! But for some reason half of what you're saying comes through as unintelligible...
  12. Impressive work on those batteries... but since they'll never be seen, I have to ask... why??? I know, I know. Because you know they're there. But I guess I don't see the point of putting that much work into something that will never be seen. But hey... it's your model, build it your way!
  13. I think you might surprise yourself. Cranky's techniques aren't all that complicated; a modeler of average skill could easily do things the way Cranky describes. That's the beauty of his techniques... you don't have to be a world-class builder to be able to recreate his results. It's just a matter of knowing the procedure.
  14. Geez... you're getting really wordy lately!
  15. If you read the magazine but have never looked at "Collector's Corner," I suggest you give it a try. You'll see just what a wide variety of oddball subject matter is available in 1/43... stuff that you'll NEVER, EVER see in a mass-produced 1/24-25 kit. In fact, a lot of cars you may never have even heard of or knew existed.
  16. Because 1/43 is considered "collector's scale," produced by small companies in small quantities (and often in an intentionally limited series), and aimed squarely at adult builders and collectors. They are not "mass market" products like your typical '32 Ford or '57 Chevy. The small number of kits produced per subject means that the manufacturer can't distribute his investment over many thousands of models. Often a particular 1/43 kit will only sell a relative handful of copies... so kit price is going to be high. It's sort of like the difference between buying a Big Mac and fries at McDonald's vs. having a gourmet meal at a fine French restaurant.
  17. Check the PM I'm sending you.
  18. Virgil, you have to pay closer attention! I posted a whole WIP on that model in the Big Boyz section a loooong time ago.
  19. M-B has decided to kill the Maybach brand. So if any of you guys with a spare million or so were thinking of buying one, get them while you can...
  20. Nader's "Unsafe At Any Speed" has been pretty much debunked as a hack job. There was nothing inherently "unsafe" about Corvairs.
  21. ok, I'm done for the night. Gonna go downstairs and watch me some mindless TV before I hit the sack. Let's hope this place is still here tomorrow morning!
