How to Remove "Ghost Trim"
Ramfins59 replied to diymirage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've had good luck preventing "ghosting" of mold lines and sanded off emblems by brushing some liquid cement like Tamiya's liquid glue, or Tenax, over the sanded areas. Let the glue completely dry and then resand with a very fine grade of sandpaper. Then clean the body and spray with a good primer-sealer, then paint as usual. -

That is very cool Tom. It is always great to be able to have a "model memento" of a departed friend. I have a '67 Ford Galaxie that Tony "Slice & Dice" DelVecchio converted into a 4 door hardtop from a convertible for me so I could replicate the first car that my wife and I owned when we got married. I also have a '36 Ford roadster that Dave Dickash painted for me when I was recovering from the stroke I had 14 years ago. (I also have several other models that I built in his memory. Those are treasured models for sure.

My 1950's Diecast Models #1...... Cheating..? LOL.
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Diecast Corner
Thanks guys. When I either run out of kits to build (Like that might ever happen ) or, I find myself in a building slump or funk, I'll probably take some of these diecasts apart to add my own "personal touches". -
Welcome to our plastic playground. That is a nice looking Ford and you did a good job on the re-do.

"mystery" parts and poor instructions
Ramfins59 replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the "names" don't show up anymore due to manufacturers licensing fees. -
Any other musicians in the house?
Ramfins59 replied to atomicholiday's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I played Bass Guitar for many years in several different bands. I have a Fender Precision Bass and a Fender Bassman 100 Amp. Unfortunately I haven't played much at all for almost the past 15 years. I enjoyed playing 60's & 70's Rock and Blues. -
Patrick, that looks like you've got a cozy little place to work. Any pictures of the inside??

Thanks a lot Carl. When I was searching for Google reference pictures for this car I came across the following picture which really "lit the fire" for this car. Although I'm building a convertible instead of a hardtop / sedan, this picture really did it for me.

Yes Steve, I'd paint over the package shelf. I've never used embossing powders yet as I'm still a fan of flocking. I'm wondering though, if they make white embossing powder, and if so, could you mix a small amount of it with the black powder to get that "salt & pepper" look?

Thanks Stan and Ron. Hopefully I can get some of the interior work done tomorrow. I've got a lot of housecleaning to do in preparation for visiting family at the end of this week for the Turkey Day festivities.

Trabant Universal - Progress Report 11-23-14

Tom, this project is looking great. You're doing a good job on a vehicle we don't see much of in the model world. -

Thanks guys. I'm hoping that this comes out OK. I've also painted a Modelhaus '58 Mercury Parklane convertible, and a built-up gluebomb of a '58 Imperial. Those won't be put up in Workbench threads until I finish up this Lincoln. Unlike Porschman Al Maeske, it'll take me a little more than 3 days to finish it .

I started work on this Modelhaus resin kit that I picked up from them at the NNL East show last April. It is painted Duplicolor Twilight Blue Metallic, clearcoated and polished. While Modelhaus' bodies are usually perfect, this one had a few issues. I'm thinking that either the master mold is getting a little "long in the tooth", or, there were some small air pockets trapped. The top surfaces of both the hood and the trunk had small divots sort of like a rash or pock marks. I filled them in with putty and primer and sanded it smooth as best I could. Other than that all is good. Next will be doing the BMF trim work, and working on the interior bucket and dashboard. I'll be flocking part of the interior and adding door handles. I want to try using some PE electric window switch pieces for the first time. Those pieces are REALLY TINY and it should be fun trying to bend them. I know that I'll definitely be using my Optivisors for that chore. Thanks for looking in on this. Comments are welcomed as usual.

Serious Snowplowin' - Upstate New York, 1939

That is just crazy. I guess they're going through that on Buffalo's roads these days. -

Yeah, my '59 Dodge Coronet was 18' 2" long. One day a friend parked his father-in-law's '58 Lincoln next to it and the Lincoln was several inches longer. What a boat.

That is wild. Looks like some parts from a Citroen. That spotlight on the front of the pickup bed would be great for blinding the guy behind you who rides with his brights on, or, who flashes his brights at you to move over... -
garage diorama fully detailed and fully scratch build ...
Ramfins59 replied to crazyrichard's topic in WIP: Dioramas
Richard, I've been holding off on posting any comments on this project until it was completed, but the way you keep adding more and more scratchbuilt items that look so great, I just had to say how fantastic you're making everything look. Keep up the great work. -
No thanks necessary Carl. If it works, use it.

Steve, this Chrysler is looking great. I love that color.

Al, that's looking really great. Another cool car to add to your collection. I'm currently working on a Modelhaus '58 Lincoln Continental convertible kit that I picked up from them at NNL East last April. I painted it a dark Twilight Blue Metallic by Duplicolor. I should hopefully be able to post some Workbench pics of it soon. How many 1958 cars do you have finished so far? To date I have 9 different '58 cars done.
