Well... As we all know only too well, sometimes life gets in the way... Today my sewer line backed up in my basement...... PHEW......!!! I'm waiting for Mr. Rooter to show up to hopefully fix the problem without my having to spend an arm and a lung... We'll see how this event turns out... Meanwhile... no modeling in the basement for awhile... -
Kit Building Then, and Now
Ramfins59 replied to Tom Setzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep... All of the above. I remember working on what I thought at the time (around 1963) was the very best model I ever made... I took a full size '61 Buick and cut enough out of the body to shorten it to fit on a Corvette chassis. I built up the interior from the chassis. I usedblackfelt for the carpet and used dress snaps, heated with a wood burning tool, to make the bucket seats swivel seats. Body work was done with some AMT putty and I painted it Candy Apple Red over a Silver base and then put a bubble top on it. I wired the engine with my mom's black sewing thread... This was before I had a pin vise & CA glue and I recall getting really frustrated when the thread didn't stick very well to the engine... I was using that good old Testors tube glue... I also remember building a Chevy model (don't remember what year the car was) and I painted it Green with a small brush... I do remember that the paint job didn't come out half bad. Myself and a couple of friends who also built models back then all had the same problems with getting the tube glue on the clear glass... Ahhh the memories... -
Revell/GearZ contest prizes

Congratulations Corey. Enjoy all the loot... -
Great article. Too bad more newspapers around the country don't write stuff like this about modeling..... Although....... who reads newspapers these days... Certainly not the kids. Probably not too many adults either. I know it's been quite a few years since i, personally, have sat down and read a newspaper. It used to be a Sunday morning ritual... Now we get our "news" on the Tube or the Net.

Obviously I know that I'm not the only one that this happens to... It's just that it hasn't happened to me in a looooong time. I usually try to force myself (as you said David) to work on one at a time... Oh well... we'll see what happens as time goes on. Thanks for your input guys. -
Great pictures Tom... Thanks for sharing them. I know I'll be picking up probably a couple of those Revell Merc Woody kits when they come out.

So I've been working on a curbside custom '53 Ford. After waiting for days for good weather I finally shot some primer on it and all came out great. I got the chassis painted and wheels mounted and checked the stance with the body on and all was well. I started work on the interior... Came back to the bench today and looked through some other parts & stuff that I cleaned up while I was rooting through kits the other day when it was raining... I had cleaned up some lantern style lights from the AMT Tall T double kit and glued some MV clear lenses to one set and red MV lenses to another set for taillights... Suddenly the urge to finish the '53 Ford went POOF...!!! Now I'm hot & heavy into working on a T-Bucket Roadster... I'm combining parts from the AMT 25 T double kit and the interior bucket from the AMT Tall T double kit to make it... This hasn't happened to me it a very long time. Usually once I start a model I stick with it until it's finished... I know a lot of you guys seem to have multiple projects going on most of the time, but this is strange to me... I guess I'll see how long this lasts.

your work bench
Ramfins59 replied to dabelltoller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I posted this on the Workbench Saturdays thread, but I guess I can put it here too... This is my Roll Top desk workbench in my modeling area down in my basement. The '53 Ford I've been working on is front & center at the moment... These shelves from Lowe's hold my stash of unbuilt kits... These glass cabinets hold some of my built models. The teacup hooks on the edge of the bench hold my aftermarket & PE stuff in binder clips separated by category ( engine, interior, wire, trim, etc...) This glass cabinet hold my "Hall of Famer's... the models that have been pictured in model or car magazines. The shelf to the right holds my assortment of spray paints... These shelves next to my workbench hold my started projects in various stages of completion, my vinyl gloves & face masks for painting, and assorted storage bins of parts. -
I've never built either pre-painted kits or diecasts. My "quickie builds are usually Curbsides or Slammers, but sometimes even those turn out to be more involved than originally planned.

OK... it's only Friday, but here's my workbench and model area. I use a roll top desk that we've had for years. My '53 Ford WIP is front & center at the moment... These stacking plastic storage shelves are from Lowe's and hold my stash of unbuilt kits. [img ]http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/ramfins59/012.jpg These glass cabinets hold some of my built models... Teacup hooks on the edge of the wooden table hold all my aftermarket & PE stuff in binder clips separated by category (Distributors, Engine stuff, grilles, hose, interior stuff, etc... This glass cabinet holds my "Hall of Famer's"... the models I've built that have been pictured in various model or car magazines. The shelves to the right of it hold my assortment of spray paints. These shelves hold my started projects in various stages of semi-completion... sort of...

Yeah John... That's one of the things that I love about shows... You never know what will or won't do well for you. Hope all is well with you. -
Great job Walt. I love that yellow...

I've been retired for the past 3 years. I worked in Commercial Collections for 32 years for various manufacturing companies as a full time job and also in various Temp positions.

Great looking T-Bird Sam.

I use Radio Shack diodes for fuel filters. They have enough wire at both ends to connect to the carburetor and the fuel pump on the engine block. I'll paint the diode aluminum for a more modern look, or, for an older car, leave it unpainted so it sort of looks like the orange color.

Those look really awesome Bryan. Glad to hear that you're NOT still swallowing stink bugs... LOL.
