How Important is Design?
Bartster replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
l actually like it. l can't help but wonder if the black grille "thingy" is the lift hatch to feed the gerbils that power it? -
.......Couldn't have put it better! Not my genre, but l had to look because l had one in the early '80s. Nice work.
-
.....l can do the flames that that small, but don't have the equipment either! lt's hell being poor.
-
Wow! Almost impossible to do in scale. White flocking & dry brush red, orange & yellow? You might actually be able to use the small scale to your advantage: perhaps the tri-colors would be recognizable enough as fire that the absence of flame patterns wouldn't really matter?
-
Wow, see what l mean?

ls it leopard skin? lf so, it would be VERY tedious, but paint it orange/yellow & dot with black, fading to brown Sharpies. Bart. BTW, l was laughing at my ineptitude, not your posting. ls it leopard skin? lf so, it would be VERY tedious, but paint it orange/yellow & dot with black, fading to brown Sharpies. Bart. hahaha! l had no idea there were videos hidden in the blank posts! Can't see a thing. l sure would like to though!

l love it! l have 3 unbuilt & waiting on inspiration. Love the stance, the white, mag 500s, & the yellow hemi. Great combination that works well together! Bart.

Very nice! Good to see how well this builds up. l have plans for one soon.

ooohhh, Jason! Looking good! Nice work on the spindles! -
Wow, Jim! l have GOT to get a bigger screen! All the details l can see are fantastic! Once again, above & beyond on the interior. l really like this shade of green. People are saying green is the new red-you put an exclamation point on that!!!! The flatty looks like it could start & run. Very realistic details. l want a couple of those dizzys. l'm gonna build a 1:25 flathead soon! l'm all outa adjectives! Bart.

Thanks for the input, Brian. l can see l should change heads on the '64 427 if l am to go this route. The valve covers l have are pretty close & would probably hide the incorrect heads. The intake in your pic seems to have the carbs set back farther than the 2 l have to choose from. l'm not necessarily going for histporically accurate, but l'd like to be close. l think l can pull it off with this equipment. Thanks again! Bart.

Revell 49 Merc Engine Question?
Bartster replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
lf you have chrome valve covers, air cleaner, & othetr accessories, one of my old tricks is using a yellow Sharpie to"anodize" the chrome into gold. Looks oh so sharp sitting on a yellow engine! Purple plug wires, dist. cap, coil etc. would really set it off as well as tie it in to the body color! -

Very interesting! l'll bite. -
l would LOVE to participate in e-modelcars! Everytime l've tried to register, it won't let me. l assume it's because l'm on a cheap Pantech cell phone & not a computer or i-phone? lf anyone has any ideas, l'm all ears! Bart.

Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1
Bartster replied to styromaniac's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Let them stay out of the hobby for 30 years & they won't be near so picky. l'm still finding 10-15-20 even 25 year old kits that are "new" to me & am grateful & amazed at the advancement of quality & subject matter! l love this hobby! -
l did one of these conversions in the early '70s & it seemed straightforward, but mine, as a kid, turned out nothing like this! Awesome all the way around-especially the color! l remember the front suspension being pretty fiddly. That was confirmed on a recent attempt at the '55 sedan based on the Nomad kit. l only hope to get it looking half as nice as yours. & yes- The general should have started the el Camino in '55. Bart.

Revell 49 Merc Engine Question?
Bartster replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi Carl. Since you're using a Caddy mill in a Merc, it's safe to say it's a custom? With the purple body color, & you mentioned gold, the logical choice would be to go with gold as yellow is purples complimentary on the color wheel. l think a yellow block with gold valve covers, air cleaner & other accents (or vice versa) with purple wires & fine details would be naturally very pleasing to the eye. Just my opinion. Bart. -
l only recently heard of this engine. lt apparently 1st appeared in lndy in a '64 Galaxie. Most people caught a glimpse in '65 in Hot Rod magazine. From the pics l've seen, it looks almost exactly like a Boss 429. l'm not real familiar with Ford engines, so l was wondering how best to replicate this. l have a nice 427 from the thunderbolt kit. would it be best to use Boss 429 heads on this block? Or is there enough difference between the 2 blocks to matter in 1:25? lf the block difference is minimal, then where could l source a nicely detailed 1:25 Boss 429 from? l have the 429 from Revells 41 Willys pickup but it is sorely lacking any detail & l'm not comfortable using these heads & valve covers on such a nice 427. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bart.

Bartster replied to JasonFL's topic in WIP: Model Cars
l see a custom to this extent as a trailer queen, which means you don't need plates. But if you DO wanna drive it you could use magnets & stick it anywhere on the back~ -
Looks like more fun than the law should allow!!
