Very cool. I should do those quick builds more often as well.

John, what are you using to cust the small sections of alluminum tubing for things like your shock mounts etc? My tubing cutter does not go small enough, and when I try to use other devices I get oblong cuts or cuts that are full of burrs.

I too am sorry to hear this for you. I have noticed that the older I get, the more you notice people's passing, and of course, the more of them you know.

One of the easy things to do is use pigments or pastels to age them. Use dullcoat on the tires, then mix up a really thin wash of pigments mixed with alcohol, using light tones like gray etc. Then apply the wash and just before completely dry, take a cloth and wipe them off. Then apply earth tones for dirt and dust. This is basically what I did in the picture below, just not to the extreme. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/med_gallery_8985_885_453335.jpg If they are rubber, you may also try soaking them in alcohol to dry out/crack the rubber, then highlight the cracks with washes as suggested. I would just suggest experimenting and stick with what works for you.

My wife recently got a prescription filled, and it came in this box that was about 4 inches wide, about 5 inches tall and maybe 1 inch deep. She opened the box to find a little bottle like a small asprin bottle in the corner with the box folded inside to hold it in place. She opened the bottle, and there was like 5 or 6 pills in the bottle. All that for 5 or 6 pills. It was just plain silly, but I am sure someone somewhere justified it.

That may be the factory clearcoat that would be under the chrome. The seller may have used something to strip the chrome that did not remove the clearcoat. That stuff, especially on those older kits can be very thick.

I prefer using an airbrush for as many things as I can, BUT if you use the airbrush, even for something very small, there is a lot of cleanup if you want to do it right, and that can be quite time consuming for some folks. For some people, it may simply be speed and ease of cleanup if you just pick up a can spray it, spray the can upside down, then put it away.

Are you sure you are not retired? Or maybe you just have more than 24hrs in a day like me. hmm.. Moving right along for sure.

For the models that I do not have enough shelf room for, I simply store them in large moving boxes. They can then be accessed pretty easy, moved around pretty easy, and stacked at least three high in most rooms. Each can easily fit more than 25 typical kit boxes if you pack them right, and then box them by category for easier searching later on. This picture just shows the ones I have here in the room, not counting the boxes I have stacked in the closet. My goal at SOME point, is to have massive storage racks like I have seen others have, but those are expensive, and these boxes are around $3 at a U-haul or box store.

By the time I got to school, there were 1 or 2 left handed ones in each class room, still not always enough. I recall my father not only talking about schools "correcting" left handed student. BUT, they also tried to correct my Dad's name. It is Tommy on his birth certificate, not Thomas. They required him to write Thomas, right handed.

In the not too distant future, manual transmissions will not even be a part of the new automobile landscape. (trucks etc will have them) Even on high end sports cars, the automatic shifting with the electronic manual override (think paddle shifters on many modern cars) will be all you need to have a fun driving experience. You can still shift if you want, but will not always need to, and you will certainly not need a clutch.
