My local TV news just had a story about the International Toy Fair in New York, while they interviewed a guy about toys, they said that the show ran February 10 through 13. Will there be any kit announcements there?

Boy, what a tough crowd! The figures say on the package that they are 3 inches, which works out to be a bit tall, but we all know how hard it is to find female figures that aren't conversions from male figures, with very large hands and all of the wrong proportions. I appreciate those of you who were brave enough to give more examples. I must admit that I had a good laugh at some of the comments, and I hope to hear more input from you guys. Hopefully some of you will even give me some ideas to steal. This HAS been a fun thread, but a little different than I expected. Don't stop now!

Yesterday I got the latest issue of Model Cars magazine, and read the cartoon. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't gotten the magazine yet, but it got me to thinking of some of the strange things we do, such as using pantyhose over the end of a vacuum cleaner hose to find a lost part. I thought it might be fun to start a thread of all those goofy things we do for our hobby. I will start- today I went to the 99 cent store because a modelling friend told our club meeting that they had Spice Girl figures there, and that each figure has multiple poses and clothes. You should have seen the checker's face when a 58 year old man buys a bunch of spice girls! OK, your turn.

Did anyone notice that Tom's picture number 65 had what appears to be the MPC Petty '71 Plymouth at the bottom? I don't know how to link to his pictures, but take a look.

For years the Japanese manufacturers have released their 1 to 1 scale cars in the home market 12 to 18 months before exporting them. That way engineering bugs can be worked out when the recalls affect only Japan. Thus, Tamiya may have had over a year to tool up their model.

I really enjoyed seeing you and Dolores at the NNL last week. The Cordvette looks great, something I would have never dreamt up. I guess this is kind of like a kindergartener criticizing Da Vinci, but I think that the taillight area is too flat when viewed from above. Do you think that you could laminate a bit of sheet plastic and contour it so that the bulge at mid door height would continue to the tip of the tail? The rest of the back of the car is so curvy, that the flatness of this area is a bit harsh. Or perhaps that is the idea and I just am barking up the wrong tree.

Unfortunately, I posted all of the pics that I shot. The Follmer 917/10 was built by Andy Kellock, so it will probably be in his Scale Auto column. I agree that the attendence was up, and the vendors were fewer. There is always a bit of ebb and flow in the numbers of vendors and modellers. I did not hear about any other shows, but that is a possibility. As far as Bruce Miller's attendence, there have been times that he missed a year or two due to work (as did committee member Brooks Moses this year), so I'm not going to read too much into it. Either way, it was an enjoyable day, and it would have been more so if some of those absent were there. I'll just hope to see them next year or at other shows. It's ALL good! Mike Grover, will you be going with some of the Sacramento guys to Al & Susan's place on March 3? I hope to see you there. It is a really fun time.

The turnout was pretty good. Last year was a bit down, but there were more entrants and the tables seemed more full. I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm sure there were over 1000 models and I would guess over 400 attendees. All of the regulars were there: Bob Karroll, Roger "Riceman" Lee, Larry Henley, the BASH'RS club, Mark Townsend, Jerry Amaral, etc. plus the NNL staffers, both current and those of us who have gained "emaritus" status, like Steve Hinson, Andy Kellock, Roy Sorenson, Greg Plummer et al. We sure missed Gregg Hutchings, Albert Wallace and Dave Dale, and the tribute to Randy Vandraiss was touching. A lot of us spent time remembering Randy. The swap meet was pretty full with some good deals. I got a bunch of old car magazines, some tires from Herb Deeks, misc parts and three models (all MPC annuals and sealed inside) -Datsun Pickup, Pinto Wagon and Dodge window van. I also bought $10 in door prize tickets and won a Moebius Hudson. I had a great time talking to people, and renewing friendships. I think that this is the BEST part of going to a show!
