  1. GSL is a wonderful show. You will see e best models in the world and will meet the builders. These builders are most willing to give you tips and advice. You will learn a lot and make many fiends The only downside is that it is quite difficult to even place, let alone win- understandable when the competition are guys like Randy Derr, Ken Hamilton, and John Teresi. Each of the above are very friendly and fun people. No wait-Teresi is crazy funny! I have a friend who cleans up at local contests but he went to GSL with the wrong attitude- he EXPECTED to win, got nothing and now refuses to go back. I describe GSL as a dug- you get hooked and can' wait tor more.
  2. Looks good so far. I talked to Rex Barden at the Sacramento Autorama, and he said that Ed Sexton from Revell-Monogram was going to be there with a display of new kits.
  3. Pat, hat Rapid Roy car is Great! You even got the tattoo. It bought a smile to my face. Thanks.
  4. Hey grammar police, how about his one? "I just got a 69' Camaro" I was taught that an apostrophe after a number meant FEET- so you got a 69 foot Camaro? The way to abbreviate 1969 Camaro is '69 Camaro with the apostrophe before the number.
  5. Casey, I love those product sheets! Where do they come from, and can I access them?
  6. There were MANY manufactures that never had model kits made. Try to find a Nash or Oakland, LaSalle, Jordan, Monteverdi, etc.
  7. Matt, many AMT and MPC kits had "inserts" in them. these small, separate mold parts made parts switching possible. If you thought that parts like rims or axles looked the same, it is probably because the exact same insert was used for both kits. It has long been rumored that Jo Han tools are useless due to the theft of many inserts.
  8. It was in the Modesto B&N for the first time ever.
  9. File this under "Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD"
  10. I am not the original poster, but I think a bunch of us would like a high resolution scan of that. Hint--hint.
  11. Every time I saw a clip of Barris talking about the Monkeemobile. he used the phrase "my Monkeemoble" not "when I designed the Monkeemobile". He let the listener assume the origins of the car. I always took it that he was referring to the fact that he had bought the car. He chose his words as carefully as a lawyer would.
  12. A reply to the HAMB thread said that his son confirmed it on the Barris Facebook page. I'm not on FB so maybe one of the others can check.
  13. I have been checking elsewhere for confirmation, but nothing yet.
  14. Beautiful!! What red did you put on top of the peal white?
  15. Am I the only one with a Martin D28?
  16. I wonder how a passenger would get in?
  17. What are the tires like? are they the ones in the newer 510 or the old 2 piece?
  18. Most MPC MoPar B body kits shared an almost identical chassis pan. The original 65 Coronet (molded by MPC but sold by AMT) has a pan almost the same as the 67-70 Charger annuals and even the Dukes of Hazard and 70 Coronet. I don't have too many B boy variations, but I know that these are almost the same. The AMT 65 Coronet has full rear wheel wells and the front sub-frame has the wrong shape, but everything else seems the same. I don't know when MPC took off the wheel wells or corrected the front, but I don't think it took too long.
  19. There was a very long and very informative seminar at GSL this year. one of the SLC club members even did a demonstration. A presenter that does a 3D printing blog said that a printer will soon be on the market for $275 and the club member mentioned that it is a good idea to have a computer specifically dedicated to the 3D printer There was a lot of discussion on software, too. It is supposed to be put on the website so look for it and get comfortable before you start. What I learned is that I will NOT be doing 3D printing. It would take me forever to learn the software. Another presenter had a different approach: he did three view drawings on paper, hired somebody to convert them to 3D files, then had a printing surface make the part. he then made RTV molds and resin cast the parts. For me this sounds like the way to go. This guy also did a seminar on resin casting that also should be on the GSL site. I HIGHLY recommend thae anyone interested in 3D printing view one or both of these seminars.
  20. Playing the evil's advocate here: The new tools will be new 1:1 builds of a 2015 Mustang and a 29 roadster, while the others will be modifications to existing tools just like the rest of the Foose line is. I'm not going to get too excited.
  21. 26-27 T turtle deck roadster with a rodded Cadillac engine and track roadster nose option. Then do a T turtle deck coupe.
  22. Brizio, like the others said it was nice meeting you. Your models are great, your wife is lovely and you have good doggies. It was a pleasure meeting you all.
  23. Danno, didn't you know that Teresi's beard is retractable?
  24. Chris and Ace-it was a real pleasure meeting you guys, and just an amazing weekend, You guys and everyone else there are good modelers and even better people. For those of you out there who have not gone to GSL or any other big NNL or contest ,the models draw you there but is the PEOPLE that make he show. Getting to know the other model builders is the real treasure, the advice and any trophies won are just gravy.
  25. Joe, I'll be boarding a plane in Sacramento a couple hours after you ...I hope we can meet today. I'll be wearing a blue t-shirt with an Eagle in front, and will land about 4:15
