  1. A thought about all those who have albums of pictures of those old kit builds from the 50's 60's and 70's. It may be worth having the pictures scanned and sent to the International Model Car Builders Museum for posterity.
  2. Well I guess some of you guys will have to fly to Belgium for the Jabbeke show now that the GSL shows are no more.
  3. Thanks for showing Curt's 251 model John. Looks like I unintentionally created a bit of a rabbit hole on this thread. So my apologies to Pierre as I did not mean to create a distraction from his Alfa build that he is kindly sharing with us on here.
  4. Nice work so far. Is the plough scratch built or part of the kit?
  5. Very nice build. Just shows that Revell kits have great potential considering they are a lot less expensive than many others. This Red Bull F1 car looks really good, so credit to Rich in turning out this little gem.
  6. Thanks for the feedback about the 251 kit Andrew. Thought it long out of production and not available at all. I will try to contact FPP about it.
  7. I guessed somehow that it was for MCMs promotion and coverage that Gregg was there. Where does Larry Greenberg feature in all this as he now appears to be the main editor of MCM? Thomas' post gave the impression that Gregg actually organised the show. Mark Gustavson and his team should take the credit for organising the show plus venue etc.
  8. Many have lived to regret getting rid of all their kits , paints and tools. Enjoy your grandchildren, as I have over the years. But best just store your stuff somewhere for that day when they go on to do their own thing until the opportunity comes back. It will eventually!
  9. This will be an interesting build to follow. Vintage classic racers have more appeal to me than modern F1 cars. I would like to get hold of one of the FPP Bugatti 251 kits that are now out of production. It raced just once I believe back in the 50's as it turned out to be a failure. Trintignant the driver pulled out of the race claiming that the car was a death trap allegedly.
  10. I believe it is Mark Gustavson who was responsible for and organised all the GSL Shows. He is also behind the creation of the Model Car Builders Museum in Sandy, Utah. So Thomas, were you actually referring to the magazine coverage of the event?
  11. Wasn't aware of those two Matt. That build of yours looks nice too! Cheers Noel
  12. Nostalgic thread. Built quite a number of their show rods and classics down the years.
  13. Lovely model build and superb finish. You can see the lineage from the Le Mans C and D Types. Matt Bacon mentioned the tyres reacting to the plastic wheels after a while. Had this happen to an Airfix Bentley that I built years ago. If the kit tyres are Vinyl they have an adverse chemical reaction when constantly against Polystyrene plastic unless a barrier like paint or foil is used. This is a thing to look out for in kits that have been stored for years with loose vinyl tyres in the box. I have also found out this the hard way with tyres and kit parts ruined whilst concealed in their box. Always separate them. Either put the tyres into a separate polystyrene bag of wrap them in tissue to keep them away from the main kit parts.
  14. It's 1/24th scale so sits well with the two different Royales that Italeri made.
  15. Some of those older car kits can present a bit of a challenge, so credit where it's due this turned out to be a very nicely built and painted model. Not very many Maserati road cars have been kitted in plastic down the years, unlike Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Airfix did a Maserati Bora in 1/32nd scale some years back. Apart from the old Aurora 3500 in 1/24th scale that went to Revellogram eventually, I cannot think of any others.
  16. The push rod engine. Something for the 3D printers to offer perhaps?I The Bonhams link is brilliant for reference photos. Well worth looking at for many classics going through their hands.
  17. Atin. Now that the chrome has been removed from the engine block will you be removing the moulded on plug leads and replacing with wire? The plated parts that have been stripped and redone with Alclad look much better. I have this kit and the chrome is very heavy looking on it. Alex. Some would say that what you did with this kit was sacrilege! But building kits should be fun first and foremost, and your 'off the wall' build with those wheels make it look a real mean machine!
  18. Here in the UK Washi masking tape could be bought in Wilkos. It was a red colour when sold named Washi masking tape in the store. Wilko has now renamed it I think Paper masking tape and is now a very light beige colour. Same stuff. Different colour. A lot less expensive than Tamiya tape if you are prepared to cut it into strips. I use a flat piece of glass from a security lamp to stick the tape down to and use a scalpel and steel engineers rule to cut into the strip widths I want.
  19. Thanks for the feedback Bruce. You are in a very enviable position being able to build up company sample kits and get to keep them afterwards.
  20. Best ask Agora Joe. Unfortunately Bruce has not got back with my question about is it a full kit he bought just yet.
  21. A very nice albeit very difficult conversion from MGB to Midget. Despite the setback it just goes to show how perseverance pays off in the end and you have a nostalgic model of a car once owned.
  22. Andrew, contact the guys who run Britmodeller directly. They will be the best people to contact to sort your access problem out in all probability. HTH. Like you, I have been following what Francois and Nick are doing on that elderly Bentley kit. Both doing some cutting edge improvements. Nick is developing items to market on his Unobtainium website, whereas I think Francois is building more for his own personal pleasure and challenge but very good to see him sharing his techniques as well as Nick. John Teresi also did an excellent Bentley build a few years back too that I can remember on this forum I think.
  23. A really interesting project to follow. Nice to see a truly engineered model taking shape. The thing is seeing a number of different engineering practices being used in the process. This will certainly be an impressive model when completed.
  24. The Chrysler Atlantic was a prototype show car that was finished in a gold metallic colour. I think it was just a one off exercise taking cues from Bugatti classics of old for the body styling.
