  1. Guys, I thought that using a polishing compound before a coat of paint was a no-no... Seems like it would cause a reaction to the finish? Or is that another myth?
  2. There's a few myths, or maybe "Half-truths" floating around on the forum about how people go about certain meathods or achieve certain results. Some of these may have some folks confused, or even scared to try a new technique. There are a few "myths" that I would like your help to get straightened out, and if you guys can think of more, please post them! #1- Alclad, I've read on several instances where Alclad was hard to work with because of it being so delicate, but I've also read where it's just as tough as kit chrome... so which is it? #2- Scribing open panels, BMF makes a tool just for this, yet guys insist on claiming to use the back-side of a #11 blade (which I can never get to follow the groove). How many of you actually use an Exacto blade to open panels? #3- Fine line masking, again something that can be purchased, but when people ask the painter how they get such fine lines masked, they always come back with the old "stacking of the blades" response... I don't want to start any arguements amongst the members, just would like to bring the truth about some things to light is all!
  3. What are some of the signs to look for to tell if an image has been manipulated? The "What If" topic has a lot of pics that would fool anyone with an untrained eye (namely me!) and so does the "Weird Cars" thread. Please enlighten!
  4. Just a thought, but if the question section was titled "Questions & Answers" instead of just Q&A it might not get skipped over as easily... Guys probably see the tutorial section and think, " I could get tips and tricks here"...... just a thought.
  5. Here's some pics of the "Flying Merc" all finished. Thanks for viewing!
  6. Thanks you all! Glad you like it......
  7. Well, here it is all done! Nothing too fancy or super detailed, but that's typical for me.... I really like how this one turned out, though...
  8. Well, I finished the interior and got it in place. All that's left is to put the body on and touch-up a few loose ends, then it's on to under glass! Now let's hope this thing doesn't fall apart in my lap during final assembly......
  9. Here's a better shot of the frame, which is now attached to the pan.... still gotta get those rear shocks on!
  10. Got a small update for you guys... Except for adding the rear shocks, the chassis is done! I even attached the steering sector and master cylinder. Now all I need to do is paint the belly pan, some other little odds and ends, then I can start putting this thing together!
  11. Thanks for the comments fellas! Means a lot! Raymond, there is a small pin-up girl on the nose, and I think the driver (or pilot!) would be distracted by a red hood....
  12. Thanks for the compliment, Ace... the paint on the wheels is just Rust-oleum Regal Red over some gray primer, the same paint I am painting the frame with.....
  13. Got a small update, guys! Managed to get a few decals on... a star on each door, a small horse on the trunk, and what you can see here. I'll be doing some work on the chassis today!
  14. I was a busy boy today and got the engine done! I'm kind of enjoying showing in-progress pics, as it's making me cut less corners than I usually do on a build. I will have more progress in a day or so......
  15. Thank you guys for showing an interest! Painting on the engine now, should have pics soon....
  16. Here's a little progress. Got the basis of the engine together, and the grill and bumpers I've chosen to use. Also here you can see how I'm going to try to carry the aircraft theme into the interior.....
  17. This will be my first in-progress to show you guys. Nothing too fancy, just an out-of-box build, although I do have some P-51 decals that I am going to try to use. Updates as I progress, and any comments or suggestions are welcome!
  18. Thanks for the responses, guys... not what I wanted to hear, but maybe I can fix it.... fingers crossed!
  19. I got my nephew a '63 Corvette snap kit, and I thought I would clear and foil the body for him. The clear I'm using seems to be soaking into the plastic. I'm using Dupli-Color Acrylic Enamel clear, and I don't think it's crazing the plastic, but it's leaving a frosted texture...... Anyone know what I should do, or maybe what is causing this?
  20. Thanks for the interest, friend! As for which kit she builds, I guess that's up to her... I have one in mind that I think she would enjoy, but she may not like what I pick out.... If her parents let her build it here (which I'm hoping as I have all the paints and tools she would need) I may start her her own WIP thread!
  21. She won't have to worry about sharp knives! At least not for a while..... sprue cutters and files, my friend!
  22. Thank you fellows for the responses... Just think, if you were a 10 year old girl, how awesome it would be to get some positive feedback, for wanting to maybe start a hobby, from people from all over the world? I'm the only person she knows that even builds models..... As for me teaching her, as it was said, only hands-on experience can really do that. I can only offer tips, which I was hoping this thread would do.....
  23. Sorry, James.... I meant the '70 2-N-1 Challenger...... It has metal axles, positive placement pins for the suspension to the chassis, it falls together pretty much...
  24. Thanks for the responses, guys! I'm thinking that she would like to try the 1/25 Challenger from Revell.... It's basicly a snap kit with an engine, something to get her feet wet so to speak....
  25. I am very excited! My niece has decided she wants to build a model! She doesn't want a snap kit either, but a full detail.... I'm hoping you all will be willing to help maybe come up with a good list of tips for building her first model....
