  1. The basic kit will be the same. Decals might be different, boxart is different, and it may be molded in color instead of white. I've seen an '06 GT kit done by Revell AG and it was molded in red.
  2. The 1/24 Maisto Challenger SRT-8 both assembled and as a kit is already out. Revell's kit is due after the first of the year. The AMT promo is due in October; I'll bet there's a snap kit of it coming, and Lindberg is supposedly doing the concept Challenger at some point.
  3. Thanks for all the replies Feels good to get another custom done, after building mostly OOB stuff for a long stretch.

    CRX

Great model I like the custom touches. I knew someone who bought a new CRX Si in '86, what an incredibly FUN car to drive! Handled like a go kart and the acceleration was amazing. A true pocket-rocket!
  5. Sweet Dino there! Nice work
  6. Finally finished the "NISMAGNUM" GT-R wagon. Aoshima Skyline GT-R front end/wheels/dash/taillights added to a Dodge Magnum body. I'd love to own/drive a car like this; Q-ship wagons are just too cool. Fun project, but took me far too long. This crazy idea started as a Mustang wagon, but the Mustang front end didn't fit the Magnum too well, I searched for something more appropriate and I had an extra Aoshima GT-R. I like this car better than a Skyline GT-R or Magnum. It's built as a very basic curbside. There is no engine detail and just enough underneath to hold the wheels in place. It is neither AWD nor RWD, it's a model, so it's NWD (no wheel drive). All the time was spent on getting the bodywork done. It's got a few rough edges, just like the two basic donors
  7. Collectable? You can do anything you want with it. But hands off when it's collectible. If they call it collectible, you know it isn't. Basically very little, if anything made today, is going to increase in value and be truly collectible. Too many people are in on it now. If you look at the prices of most average Danbury/Franklin Mint stuff, the resales are generally a lot less than new. Only a few of the very limited editions hold their prices; the ones that are easy to find aren't going to have the same collectibility. Buy it if you like it; if it's worth hacking up for a project or detailing, have at it. Once you buy it, it's yours. It's only a model
  8. Hasegawa ? They don't make a GTO, they make the Testa Rossa. I think you meant Protar aka Revell AG's latest GTO.
  9. Yes. Too bad it wasn't Dr. Phil.
  10. Wow, this is perfect! Even better considering it's humble roots.
  11. The story behind this photo: That was a "halloween photo" put on the former Hobby Heaven message board. That year a guy showed up on the board requesting help with Bare Metal Foil. He could barely type a coherent sentence; either no caps or all caps, no punctuation and crazy run-on sentences. Long story short, he was having a miserable time with BMF. He asked for help, and many people attempted to help him figure it out; he got the best advice possible from many sources. Instead of thanking people, he got belligerent and nasty because he was still unable to get good results with the stuff. People emailed him with help and got nasty replies. I was one of them. He kept posting about the foil as if he had never posted about it before, people continually tried to help him even after their heads were bitten off, eventually it was clear that without face-to-face intervention he was never going to be happy! I doubt he ever did learn how to apply BMF, and with his belligerent attitude, his lack of aptitude, and never once offering a "thanks", well...the idea for the photo was pretty timely. A "self" portrait of a belligerent guy (whose name became legendary over there) covered in tinfoil and bandages, sticking his tongue out at everyone. Accompanied by a crazy run-on sentence attacking all who dared give him such "bad" advice. You had to be there...
  12. The Revell/Monogram Saleen Speedster has the roll bar, also an uptop that could be carefully split into three parts (2 sides and middle) and widened; the shape of the uptop didn't change much with the new body. Rumor that a few GT-H's slipped out w/manual transmissions for Hertz executives.
  13. Make a list of all those basic polyester spot putties and go to an auto paint retailer; they should have something that works and you won't have to pay exorbitant shipping. Evercoat is great, but so are other similar products, and some of their competitors are much cheaper. The main thing you want is the polyester/2 part glazing or spot putty. O'Reillys has Dynatron Putty Cote in a quart can for $15.99; Bill Geary swears by the stuff. You might prefer getting one of the tubes of putty rather than a can; since we use small quantities there's no need to take off a lid and stink up the whole house with the putty.
  14. Maybe if they had them facing the rear of the car instead of the front The direction of the "licks"...heck, the whole car, is like visual nails scratching a chalkboard
  15. $34.35 from Hobbylink Japan, just add shipping. But yeah, I got my Tamiya Enzos for about $27 each, so inflation is a killer. The Fujimi and Aoshima versions are much cheaper; Fujimi/Aoshima GTR's can be had for $25.31 before shipping (from HLJ, Hobbysearch is 5% cheaper still), and after seeing an online comparo between all the kits, the Fujimi one is the best value. It has much more chassis detail than Tamiya, but no engine detail. Aoshima's wheel/tire package look a bit puny, and it has some odd proportions, but it is engineered to make it easy to make an adjustable suspension. The Tamiya kit sits nice and low straight out of the box. US prices on all Japanese kits seem insane when compared to buying in Japan; even considering the shipping expense.
  16. Bluesy Monday is the one day that they come here, When they haunt me and taunt me in my cage. I mock them all, they're feelin' small, they got no answer They're playin' dumb but I'm just lauging as they rage Don't arrange to have me sent to no asylum It's only a game I play for fun I've been foolin' everyone - everyone. (Supertramp/Asylum/Crime of the Century)
  17. DING DING DING I was one of the ones whose head was bitten off by him when I patiently tried to help him. Humor was the only way to deal with it
  18. I had not noticed that the rear diffuser was incorrect for the '06 Hertz. I wonder what other variants they might be planning? The diffuser is also incorrect for the Bullitt. Something makes me think they've got a California Special cooked up, or were planning one, or decided that the GT500/Cali Special rear diffuser was going to have to suffice for the other variants. The hoods interchange between the new GT-H and the GT, and vice-versa. The wheels are definitely the newer 18's. They sure look small, but the calipers don't lie. .785" X 25 = 19.625" diameter, which is correct for an 18" wheel w/the tire retaining lip. The GT500 wheels are the same size; so even though they look small, they're correct. We'd really be b*tching if Revell had made these GT-H wheels actual 17's. The truck tires Revell includes w/the Mustangs are the biggest reason the wheels all look small.
  19. Optimist: Glass Half Full Pessimist: Glass Half Empty Me: Where's my mug?
  20. You want to look at me Here's a picture of me hiding behind a mask. Extra points if people know the story behind this photo:
  21. All these half-glassed replies...keep 'em coming
  22. More interest and more replies than honest-to-goodness model car stuff Never underestimate...
  23. Thanks for the Supra tire trick, now the aftermarket needs to start offering modern street radials as there's a lot of Revell customers that want to upgrade and seemingly nobody out there filling the vacuum. One never knows why Revell does what it does. The stripes over the top of the car would be easy enough to trim the black strip away, but the side stripes would still be wrong.
  24. Revell does some great stuff and they're not afraid to spend some money (like the all-new body tool for Mustang), but then they inexplicably allow worst-in-the-industry stock tires to be included in their Mustangs. They should be ashamed of that, but clearly someone in the chain of command doesn't think it's a problem
