  1. Someone posted the Revell stuff elsewhere, no ZR1 from them so far... '32 5 window coupe with the flathead and wire wheels of the sedan kit, '69 Nova Yenko, 1/24 '36 Ford, 1/24 '64 Mustang Convertible, Bathtub Buggy, '09 Challenger, T.D.'s Rommel's Rod, Tijuana Taxi and the Red Baron. Aside from the Challenger (which was already announced long ago and already late, was supposed to be out in late August then pushed back to late January), there's nothing new. As in zero, zip, nada. Either reissue or modified reissue. AMT's Challenger is just an unassembled version of the promo we've been seeing since the summer. Many people seem elated at the reissues; I've already got the vintage stuff I want...gimme something NEW!
  2. Ditto Maybe it'll get announced in the spring. Maybe not. Weird market for sure. They're bettin' the farms on all the reissues...yawwwwn.
  3. Another reason I loathe white metal Seriously, I wish it didn't exist. It's used far too much as a crutch for aftermarket kit production.
  4. Wake me up when it's over.
  5. Just paint it red One can barely tell Ferrari reds apart, aside from Rosso Scuderia which is a brighter, more "orange" red w/o being orange, and Rosso Barchetta which is a darker "blood" red. Anything from the Rosso Corsa range will work. Tamiya TS Italian Red is going to be 99% correct, and the other 1% doesn't really matter since everyone sees colors a bit different, and they look so different indoors under artificial light vs. outdoors under natural light. Heck, on Saturday while looking at a 1:1 yellow Scuderia, it was at least two different shades of yellow; the front bumper was noticeably different than the sheet metal; doesn't show in photos but even my half-blind friend could see the difference in person.
  6. Heck, the real deal itself looks like a model in person I loved it when the handlers were starting it up to drive it off the golf course (by rotating that big horizontal wheel w/their hands, just like someone cranking a propeller on an airplane to start it) telling us to stand back as it could and would sling oil out sideways.
  7. The PT is a heavy car for a 2.0; at the point that it may not be much if any more fuel efficient w/that engine vs. the 2.4 sold here. Definitely "life in the slow lane"
  8. Really depends on what you like. What motor does it have? What transmission? The US 4 cyl. automatic is a real dog, almost dangerously slow off the line. They're pretty thirsty for their size; I know someone who had a PT and Camry, both 2.4 liter 4 cyl. automatics, and the Camry would get 32 mpg on a trip vs. the PT's 24 mpg. Pretty robust body. You need to drive it and see if it fits you and your idea of performance. Turbos are much better to drive, but even thirstier. If the price is right and you like it, go for it! Just remember that in the US the PT Cruiser is a fairly low-end car, especially compared to a V70. There's nothing quite like the comfort of a Volvo seat. No PT can compare.
  9. Revell's going to have one; originally they said late September, then they delayed it to late November. So there's hope it will be out later this year, but no guarantee.
  10. Most any SCCA race beats F1. I honestly don't see how F1 and NA$CAR draw any crowds. Rolex can't hold a candle to ALMS, except for the touring car races. Road Atlanta had a record crowd last weekend. Daytona looks like a ghost town in January. The fans certainly know where the best racing is. Speed Challenge races are good, but they're killed by such horrifically frequent and long caution periods.
  11. Hamilton a "menice" (sic)? So what's Cool 'Tard? Chopped liver? Lucky he hasn't killed anyone considering the carnage he's been in the middle of for so many years. Has he even finished a race this year? The end of season retirement can't come soon enough. Kudos to Alonso. Hamilton does need to cool it. I suspect he'll eventually learn from these mistakes. But honestly put yourself in his position and if you were in the heat of the battle would you not be liable to do the exact same things? I certainly would! I want to be in front, and have no patience! I'm much safer sticking to video games
  12. Uh...why are people still voting? At least two have voted "model" since the reveal...
  13. I really dislike Fuji as a track. Of course the F1 goes there instead of Suzuka One lap of Suzuka in GT4 is better than an entire F1 race at Fuji. What a cluster-you-know-what at the beginning...fell asleep, still don't know who won and I really don't care (would be cool of Massa made a comeback)...if Hamilton got a drive-thru penalty for squeezing Kimi, why didn't Kimi get one at Spa for sending Hamilton into the bus stop chicane thus giving him the penalty? Things that make you go "hmmmm"... With the circus parade not even coming to NA next year, I won't watch it next year unless/until they come back or the mfgs. start their own series away from FIA/F1. ALMS is infinitely better anyhow
  14. That's a cool old wagon, around here they last forever (no rust problems in the south). For a fraction of the cost of a new car you could have that wagon in amazing shape.
  15. They would be wise to show it, unless it's such an early test shot that it's not indicative of the actual production version, or if it's riddled w/inaccuracies that will most assuredly be picked apart mercilessly by armchair critics...like myself I really, really want it to put to rest all doubts after the Bonneville/Nova CV/Monte Carlo fiascos. If they do it right, and eventually do a Mk. I, I'd like to build it. One of my best friends can't wait to get the kit, and he'll do such a nice job that I can live vicariously through his model

    '72 GTO

That came out nice! When I opened mine it looked an awful lot like they had retooled the entire body, vs. what was in the '70 kit. Those honeycomb wheels really set it apart!
  17. FYI, Dan's funeral is tomorrow. Dan's Obituary
  18. This photo gave it away for me:
  19. I never really quit, but in high school and junior college my building tapered off a lot. Then in design school in '81 one of my best friends was a model car freak as well, got me back into building, with a whole new perspective on building/detailing. That's when my building took on a new level of creativity & craftsmanship that was lacking when I was a kid. Overnight I was airbrushing, polishing paint jobs, using bare metal foil, and having a blast. I build a lot these days, but I often take long periods off from modeling, but then put a lot of hours in to get projects done. I have no problem putting the hobby aside to recharge my batteries.
  20. Not a bad looking car, but in general Daewoo cars aren't up to the quality of Hyundai. I recently rode in a Hyundai Azera, nicest Korean Toyota/Buick ever made They quit selling the Forenza in the US; replaced by the Suzuki SX4. If you've ever watched Top Gear, their 'Stars in Reasonably-Priced Cars' is this same basic car, not sure if the Lacetti is a Daewoo or Chevrolet as sold in the UK.
  21. I was really saddened to hear about Dan; he cheated death previously but this time it got him. He was a great guy, and he'll be sorely missed. He's paid for a table at our show in November I've always found some neat models at his table; often I'd get the oddball import stuff that nobody else wanted. He got a collection of promos a few years back at the B'ham show, and he let me take a look at the loot behind his table. There was a damaged '69 Impala that I was interested in, and at the next show in Chattanooga we struck a deal for it. I wanted it because it was one of only two years of Impala models I was missing. Here's the Impala, it was a great model to restore, I always think of Dan when I look at it, and he seemed to like the results too:
  22. Avoid it like the plague! Bad reputation. Worst Cars There are a lot of much better Korean cars than this one. Hyundais are pretty good these days, followed closely by Kia, here in the states they have a great warranty to alleviate fears. I don't know anyone unhappy w/their Hyundai.
  23. If you want a gravity feed dual-action airbrush, any of the Badger/Iwata/Master ones you've mentioned will be sufficient. I haven't used nor seen the Badger 360, but I've heard good things about it. I have an Iwata HP-CS Eclipse that I love, it's gravity feed. Just doesn't have the same flow characteristics as my Badger 175 Crescendo; but it does have much better control for detail parts. Gravity feed means a lot less cleanup when you're done. Iwata brushes are really nice, they're manufactured to a higher level of precision that you can feel every time you use them. Master airbrushes are essentially Iwata clones. Someone on this forum recommended them, and gave a link to find them. If I were buying a new one, I'd look at the brushes w/the larger paint cups. The smaller cup like the one you showed will go through paint rather quickly. The Master G22 or G23 look good, but I'm most tempted by the G46 w/three different removable cups in different sizes.
