  1. Looks great 8) I'm anxiously awaiting that one myself; I've seen SC and GA highway patrol Chargers and a Doraville GA Magnum cruiser (could be a good kitbash). I've built the Testors Daytona and the SRT-8, I see you had to resort to the same trick as I did for the backup lights  I have a feeling that Chargers police cars will be a very common sight in the near future. Glad that Testors has 'em covered. Wonder what kind of goodies will be in the box?
  2. Have you already contacted Jack @ the Model Roundup to see if he accepts Paypal? I'm pretty sure he does, as he also sells on Ebay and sells to a lot of European customers.
  3. Thanks for the comments 8) I really like the look of the Charger SRT-8, something about the combo of the fascia, hood scoop, 20" wheels, spoiler takes it far beyond the other Chargers which don't do much for me (base versions look pretty bland). What can I say, I tend to like a lot of cars that have very polarizing style. I thought about making one into a coupe (including tunneled rear glass), just didn't think I could pull it off convincingly. The front end is too short/stubby for a coupe, and changing that is much more difficult and time-consuming.
  4. These are Revell's Uptown STS-V and Charger SRT-8 kits. Get past the horrid boxart and the dumb oversized rims and they're fairly respectable curbside kits. Lots of custom options that can be used w/other models. I cut off the scissor door hinges on both models, shimmed the door edges as necessary w/sheet plastic, sanded to fit, and glued the doors in place. Interiors have nice detail. Lots of good decals for these kits, including all stock emblems. I used Revell Magnum SRT-8 wheels on the Charger, and Aoshima 19" Racing Hart Type CR's on the Caddy. The Charger ends up looking stock, the Caddy w/it's two-tone and custom rims like a mild whip. Brakes are resin repops made by GTMike. I added half-round styrene strips to the Caddy to make door handles (they're smoothed on the kits), sanded them a bit, and after it was painted I added dark gray and white washes above/below to give them 3D appearance. The Charger got it's doorhandles via my drawing program and custom decals, also helped w/some paint to give them 3D effect. These were quick and dirty fun, far from perfect but enjoyable to build and display.
  5. Greetings Good to see you here.
  6. It's probably happening when a photograph posted is larger than his screen, once someone posts a large photo it screws up the rest of the page, happens on every forum like this. Someone here has/had a ginormous signature photo that screwed up every page they posted on
  7. Can't say there is any one bit of advice that really opened my eyes, but in the early 90's I took to heart the "treat every part like it's a model itself" and the IPMS "pay attention to the basics" mantra. Helping to judge model contests was a great way for me to get an up-close look at the best ways to build/detail model cars, with lots of cross-discussion between the people on the judging teams, some of whom are very well-known.
  8. Darin Bastedo showed pics of a Charger Daytona chassis for reference and it was almost all gray w/some yellow overspray; and less overspray than I expected. Here's the link: http://public.fotki.com/ashevillemodeler/r..._dodge_charger/
  9. I would imagine it's like a Charger; light gray semigloss primer w/a touch of overspray from the body color.
  10. That's similar to a Cayman I want to build, but w/the tunneled rear window. Fujimi red plastic doesn't seem to bleed, I've painted over it many times w/Cobra Colors etc. and I think it's mostly a problem w/older Revell/Monogram/AMT/MPC kits.
  11. Lots of aftermarket rims look good on it. I've got some Aoshima 19's going on mine. The body is pretty nice looking; the wheel openings seem completely stock. Great decals for emblems etc. This weekend I shimmed the leading edge and bottom of the front doors w/.015" styrene strips, shaved/sanded the excess and glued them in place. Added some strip styrene door handles. It will be a fun, simple build.
  12. Looks good so far 8) About a year before the C6 debuted, I found phony spy shots of a C6 that looked great, and better than the actual C6. Wish I saved the picture-it had a front end that was heavily influenced by the C3; a split lower grille like you are fleshing out, and exposed headlight units that were shaped like the C3's rectangular hidden lamps (or the racing versions w/exposed headlights). I have also thought about doing a nose job on the model that emulates that picture (and screams CORVETTE!) instead of a semi-sort-of Ferrari 360 or Dodge Viper look.
  13. That's really cool! TheToyota looks like it's a nanosecond away from being centerpunched by the Honda  and he's not even giving 'er some opposite lock yet
  14. Looks nice in that color! Is this for for Jose? Box stock 612's look good when they've had a serious lowering. Okay, that won't be box stock anymore but it helps immensely!
  15. Great build! 8) Where did the wheels come from? My Corolla had steelies but I put some vintage custom rims on mine.
  16. No problemo; I'll figure out the Euro-spec 300C SRT-8 Touring conversion and do that too someday. Hopefully Revell's front end (Uptown series 300C SRT-8) will be a better fit than AMT's.
  17. I can't believe I've only gotten one negative comment about it so far on A/F, and that's from a Magnum fan who likes the Magnum look better. Heck, I'm almost upset  My Magnum kit wheels/tires are being donated to my Revell Uptown (with those giant rims they ought to be called "Upclown" ) Charger SRT-8.
  18. Only time will tell. AMT will probably end up in more capable hands than RC2 eventually, so if it is tooled up this year it'll probably be a decent kit and live on. Probably, being the key word. I think it's a wise tooling investment regardless of AMT's post-2007 scenario. I think they're just looking for a buyer, and getting people to buy their stuff now via their announcement to keep the product moving. Classic "get it now, it'll be gone soon" sales tactic. If AMT doesn't do the Challenger I'd practically guarantee Revell would.
  19. The answer is yes if you already didn't know I never intended to build the Revell Magnum OOB; I'm not in love w/the truck-like Magnum front end (which Dodge is fixing for '08 very nicely) and my kit was missing one headlight bezel (but hey, it had three taillight bezels  ). I was going to do a front-clip conversion w/a Chrysler 300 to do a 300C SRT-8 Touring that the Europeans get (but we don't  ). The AMT front clip is too wide for an easy conversion, so I set out to find another idea. Then this hit me as I have an extra Skyline. The parts fit pretty well w/o major modification. They're both high-performance beasts. So let the party begin. New front clip already added. I'm also going to use the Skyline aero bits, taillights, wheels, RHD dash and front seats. Paint will be silver w/Nismo stripes, black wheels. I'm almost surprised that it hasn't touched off WWIII on Automotive Forums where Skylines are treated like the crown jewels The SRT-8 Hemi gets the respect it deserves worldwide I would give my left ventricle  to own/drive one of these in 1:1.
  20. Beautiful finish for such a bad model of an ugly car The combo w/the boat is magnificent. Sure wish Trumpeter had done a '78 Grand Am coupe instead, like the one I used to own. It looked 20,000 times better than a Monte Barfo  Funny how over the years I've become so familiar w/cars like this, they don't look nearly as ugly now as they did when they were new.
  21. Using an airbrush isn't going to save you from polishing; I get as-good or usually smoother results straight from a Tamiya rattlecan than any airbrushed clear. I know some of the guys use touchup guns and urethane clears and they come out really smooth, but often I find those clearcoats to be a bit too thick and I often see them fill up fine panel lines. 3-4 paintjobs a year isn't much polishing time; get a good coat of rattlecan Tamiya clear in place and you can hit it w/3600-6000 grit then compound and often it only takes 15-30 minutes to polish...much longer if there are a lot of parts to polish out or if it's a dark color. If you do get a gun/airbrush for clear, it's a good idea as you won't get cross-contamination with other paints you might shoot through the gun, even the tiniest of specs of paint residue will undoubtely end up on your finished clear.
  22. Sadly Ricky passed away earlier today  . More information as it comes. Today has been an awful day for the modeling community, first Al Superczinski, and now Ricky Couch. If my schedule allows I'm going to try to get back up to Greenville for his funeral, even though I just got back from there yesterday afternoon.
  23. Great graphics for a milk truck
  24. Those all look great, the blue on the Charger really stands out 8) Nice variety of subjects too!
  25. That looks almost like a painting. Great picture 8)
