Sounds like fun. Nice to see ol' Max Headroom back too.

I'm beginning to think the fellas who wrote the code for the CrowdStrike/Microsoft update that paralyzed half the planet a few days back built this forum software in their spare time.

The Official EBay Discussion Thread

FeePay just hit me with another new "policy" from out of the blue...automatic payment processing on AUCTION wins. Though they implemented it some time back for "offers", it didn't affect straight auctions. It's not on ALL auctions yet, but obviously it makes it impossible to bid on several items over several days, and request a "combined shipping" invoice when you're done. The dweebiges running the show over there seem to be doing their absolute best to drive old reliable users away as fast as they can. I've been a user for 21 years, have NEVER ONCE FAILED TO PAY for anything, but now that the management clowns are moving to treat everyone like the deadbeats, I'm pretty sure I'll be signing off shortly. Just as well, 'cause I really don't NEED any more hobby stuff, and this is as good a reason as any to quit buying on FeePay. Good job, dweebiges. Really good job. -
Yeah, though I like those old AMT engine kits, the block detail leaves a lot to be desired, but adding the freeze-plug bosses and the adjacent ribs shouldn't be hard. If you want to start with one of the best blown early FirePower hemi engines out there, the one included in the recently repopped Revell Miss Deal Studebaker "funny car" (Skorpion Gasser in Atlantis boxing) is hard to beat. It's the same as the rare Revell parts-pack version that goes for stupid money now.

Yup. And sometimes a light application of filler is necessary...and I ALWAYS prime and sand and re-prime until every unwanted seam is entirely gone.

Forum website has been sluggish for the last few days

For me, some actions today are blazingly fast, some still hang, but not as bad as at other times. I logged on late last night when only a few other folks were on, and it was really fast, just like the old days, so I thought the number of users logged on might have something to do with the slowdown. Unfortunately, as soon as that thought had cleared my mind, it started hanging again so badly I couldn't even log out. There are other forums running on the same software. Might be time to contact some of their admins and ask if they're having similar problems. I DID see one similar forum was displaying the same error message I sometimes get here... -
See Spot run; run, Spot, run.

While working for the last shop I ran for somebody else, I bought a really clean dark-metallic-blue Crown Vic with a blown engine from the county for $800, and a takeout engine from one of their totals for $75. Thought I'd end up with a really nice car for almost nothing, but alas, after being offered a much better paying job back in aviation, both the Vic and the engine mysteriously "disappeared" while I was moving my stuff off the lot. Uninsured of course.

Days and days and days of overcast and rain here remind me of the Pacific Northwest.

Mowed my lawn, washed both trucks, cleaned Spot's poo box and the kitten's cage...and even worked on a couple models for the first time in months. Going for a hike in the AM if it's not raining and the radar looks like it won't for a couple hours, then maybe a little more bench time in the PM.

Everything's looking great, nice mix of kit, scratch, and printed parts. Just FYI...that printed block represents an aftermarket piece, something like a Donovan 417 aluminum block, and didn't appear until the early 1970s IIRC. The factory cast-iron block, which was run in a whole lotta earlier drag cars, lacked all that external ribbing and was pretty basic visually. (That crinkle-cut thing on the RH block is an aftermarket main-bearing girdle)

Dave knows and has acknowledged there's a problem and it's being addressed. But as I've mentioned before, intermittent problems are the hardest to diagnose. Everybody's heard the horror stories of cars taken to multiple shops, and the problem was never repaired even though every possible part was replaced. Eventually, with enough skill, logic, and perseverance applied, the real problem is found and corrected... For instance: certain late-model GM trucks have insane intermittent electronic problems, throwing dozens of seemingly unrelated codes. ONE GUY finally traced the problem to an intermittent poor ground connection on the main cable (a poor-design issue), and now the fix is common knowledge. -
Kit-cars in the 1:1 world have earned a pretty bad rap, but a very few are better cars than the originals.

Yup. I'm about out of patience. If something I built worked like this... -

Bedtime when I was a kid always came way too early, and I still tend to stay up too late.

Here's a clue. If I use a VPN, it's usually MUCH MUCH faster.
