Who'd a thunk we'd have so much in common?
-
It depends on a lot of things. My builds usually start out with a relatively simple plan, but morph into complex problem children over time, as I see ways to improve on the original idea, or add just one more little mod, etc. Early in any build, I'll typically spend more time in each session, getting the major work done so I can sit back and look at a mockup that's fairly well representative of the overall concept. As things progress, I'll set small, bite-sized session goals, so when I find I have a few minutes and am in the building mood, I can accomplish something tangible even if I don't have an extended time window.

Christmas still makes me happy, in a sad, disillusioned kind of way.

Depends entirely on the builder. I strip most everything, and can't bear to see mold seams on bumpers. -
Love 'em, especially the upgraded mods. I wrenched for a company that raced a few Abarth cars decades ago, including a double-bubble 750 Zagato and a 1300 OT we bought from Cosentino (FAZA) who was all but unbeatable in his classes in SCCA. Abarth on left below, Cosentino on the right.

And just think...if you'd had an internet-connected toilet and the app, you could have done it from France.

Bass frequency response wasn't the ultimate on my otherwise spectacular Fuseliers, but a powered sub gives me the best of everything.

Nguyen was the name of one of my patent examiners (true story), and he was a nice, very smart guy, but it was interesting communicating somewhat esoteric concepts to a non-native-English-speaker.

Yup...'68-'70 AMX and Javelin thru '74 take a different part number from the '70-'78 Gremlin, which is the same number as the '70-'77 Hornet. -

Hmmmm...definitely interesting, and a possible serious complication as far as building a 1:1 clone goes. Hmmmmm... -
Dry humor enhances brain function generally, as does creative activity like model building, so it's a win-win.

Yeah, the width issue is where I got stalled, looking at combining the AMT Gremlin and the Johan AMX. Though both model body shells appear they could easily fit the width of the AMX chassis plate, the Gremlin unit is considerably narrower, and the width of the Gremlin is somewhat less overall, and particularly narrower at the front end. I'd assume that AMC built the real showcars on shortened (but not narrowed) AMX pans, and figuring out how to go about building a real clone will require checking chassis stamping part number interchanges for the AMX vs the Gremlin to see what's what. Again, I'd assume the production AMX and the Gremlin were built on the same basic platforms, as AMC wasn't exactly rolling in excess dough to invest in tooling at the time. First thing I'm going to do is check the part numbers for windshields, as that will say a lot about the underlying structures. -

Love what you're doing on the AMX GT. I've been collecting parts to cobble a model together from what's available, but having access to a printable file might be the kicker I need to get into printing myself. Nice work, Mr. Geary. PS. I like that thing so much, I've done some investigation into what it would take to cobble together a real one. Somebody already makes fiberglass front "sheetmetal" panels for the AMX... -
