  1. Agreed, but for your basic low-T consumer who gets as involved with the function of his vehicle as he does with his fridge, they have their place.
  2. I'd surmise it's simply to trigger the want-reflex among geezers who remember building (or desiring) the model at some time in the pre-deluvian past, and loosen their grip on their wallets by appealing to their sense of nostalgia. EDIT: Of course, whether the particular box-art chosen for replication has a net positive or negative effect on the want-reflex is going to be determined by the geezerliness of the particular geezer, and the time period the art reflects. Sadly, marketing often seems to alienate as many in the target demographic as it inspires.
  3. Chessy is often the typo version of cheesy.
  4. Ever wonder what's inside a CVT, or how it works, and how it's different from other automatic gearboxes? Wonder no more. Here's a look inside Nissan's unit. And while this is quite a brilliant piece of engineering, it's generally considered to be NON-REPAIRABLE because parts, specs, and procedures aren't available...but that's not exactly the reality.
  5. Question: when everything in the stores and fuel costs 20% to 50% more than it did two years ago, with some things having gone up 100%, how do the economists and talking-head rebleaters get the 7%-8% annual inflation figures we're supposed to swallow?
  6. Not to rain on your parade, and I wish you well on this conversion, but as noted above, there is a model of the early Austin Healy Sprite, which is structurally and mechanically the same as an early-ish MG midget, and has the same doors, cowl, rockers, chassis and a similar windshield...whereas the MGB and the Midget are entirely different vehicles of very different sizes and share practically zero components. Same door, cowl and rockers apparent below.
  7. Specfreakintacular transformation.
  8. Wow; sweet build. That took some real skill and a lot more than average effort.
  9. Posts were by Muncie and Bernard Kron. Credit where it's due.
  10. Geez...now I be needin' that kit.
  11. The new place is in the dead center of Mohave county, right on the longest remaining segment of old Rt. 66. But I'm still working in Georgia, finishing up two long term projects before I finish moving West. Running WAY behind, as usual.
  12. I'll be picking it up Aug. 20. Have to rent a van, as I don't want to risk a long run in my daily pickup until she gets her new engine, and the possibility of having the body disappear from the side of the road if I had a breakdown and had to leave it has very little appeal. Stay tuned.
  13. "High and low spots" you say? The old Revell Challenger I is nothing but high and low spots, with awful panel fit (it would surely be considered "junk" by some builders); shown below as-was, with body panels jigged together while correcting fit: Flattened with 80-grit on a wood block; brutal but effective: Later in the blocking process: Final primer: Done: Build here:
  14. Great news. Thanks for the heads-up.
  15. "Maxims" can also include rules for using punctuation correctly.
  16. "Agree to disagree" is a good way to keep arguments from spiraling out of control, assuming both parties are adult in outlook and not spoiled children.
  17. I dropped the ball back in 2018, far as getting the 1:1 f'glass body went. Just too much other stuff going on like finding and buying the house in Az,. etc. But I finally arranged to get a body built like I wanted it about 6 months back, and have just been notified it's done, awaiting me to pick it up. I'll be having it here within two weeks, will post shots of it after unloading. I'm pretty stoked.
  18. Block sanding. Pretty common among more skilled builders like Plowboy.
  19. Winches are handy for getting out of ditches.
  20. BUMP...because lotsa new people here have never seen any of my work, and occasionally question my bona fides when I offer advice and answer questions. This one's a pretty fair indication I might know just a little.
  21. Pantera is the name of a car that many people familiar with the band have never heard of.
  22. Boulevard is a historically important street close to downtown Atlanta, and is home to the Atlanta Medical Center, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, Grant Park, Zoo Atlanta, the Cyclorama, and the beautiful Oakland Cemetery.
  23. Daddy, shortened to "da-da" as one of a young child's early words, may shortly be replaced with "no-bir-parn", for "non-birthing-parent", if a certain segment of society gets its way.
  24. Mars candy bars, deep-fried, are a uniquely Scottish treat.
