  1. Car parts from some places don't always fit or function like the ones they're supposed to replace and often fail prematurely, but you're not supposed to notice or mention it.
  2. Cars have been a large part of my life, but as things are playing out now, I see I should have put WAY more effort into CYA.
  3. "Thermal mass" like that stone wall, and other "passive" heat managing techniques (like light-colored roofs) could have easily been applied to any house ever built, and could have already saved millions of barrels of oil, millions of tons of coal, and millions of tons of CO2 dumped into the atmosphere...not to mention probably trillions of dollars paid out for stupidly wasted energy. But no. Why? Because humans really aren't too bright as a whole, and rarely think very far ahead.
  4. Though it's only 84F and 63% humidity, it feels more draining and miserable than usual today for some reason.
  5. Yes, it's possible. It takes practice and quality materials. I shot this orange Chevelle with Testors, made for models. "Fiery orange" rattlecan lacquer with their "wet look" rattlecan clear. The Olds hood below was shot with Duplicolor rattlecan "mica" green, also with Testors lacquer rattlecan clear. NEITHER of these have been colorsanded and polished. They're just exactly the way I laid the paint down.
  6. "Establishment" used to be another word for "the entrenched adult enemy" before we had such colorful alternatives as "boomers" and "the patriarchy" and...better not go any farther.
  7. The previous owner ran his tires a lot softer than I do, and when I got the thing the shoulders were pretty worn in front. I was going to rotate 'em to try to squeeze out a few more miles, as the rears are worn pretty evenly. But since I'm just going to replace all 4 now...
  8. Isn't that how you get recalcitrant old cars to start? It always works for me...
  9. Yeah, that's what happened. Never assume that shaking or stirring will get every bit of pigment, especially dried pigment, back in suspension. They make paint filters for just exactly this reason.
  10. Donuts make me think about slobbering all down my shirt.
  11. Down here in the Swampeast, it's a shame mold and mildew can't be turned into cash crops.
  12. My local electric co-op has been using "smart" meters for years, and our rates are the lowest in the state and some of the lowest in the country. Our service in the event of weather-related outages is also exemplary, and their interactive website is one of the best I've ever seen anywhere for anything. They don't generate their own power, have to purchase it and mark it up, all the employees make decent money, their vehicles are plentiful and look to be newish or very well maintained, and I can't understand why so many electric utility companies nationwide can't match our prices. Can you say "poor management and greed", boys and girls?
  13. Got a super sweet deal on a set of US-name-brand 235/70R15s for the Blazer. Though I prefer the look of the 235/75s that are on it, the deal was just too good to pass up, especially since the cord will be showing on the shoulders of the fronts shortly. I have access to mounting and balancing equipment in one shop, so the almost bald takeoffs from the Blazer will go on the '92 Silverado just to get her off the rims, as she's the next one in line to bring back to life after the little Neon is a 100% runner again, sometime in August.
  14. Champion hot-dog eaters require many years of practice to make it to the top.
  15. Driveway collisions while travelling backwards affected every car one of my exes ever drove.
  16. Garth is Htrag, an old Klingon family name, spelled backwards.
  17. Very VERY nice build.
  18. Restaurant-sourced used cooking-oil can be burned in a diesel after filtering and other processing.
  19. Mightily irked: went into the shop at 08:00 to work on the DeLorean, finish-machine 4 parts for the Chevelle on the lathe, and do the front brakes on my Blazer. Key turned in the lock, but just won't open the door. Oh well. Gang aft agley. Guess I'll go for a hike instead.
  20. How 'bout an air cooled Bug engine (running on bio-fuel, of course) driving a generator on a trailer behind it, and cover it with peace and love and flower stickers?
  21. Boy oh boy. Soy and hemp. That ought to be a big hit with a particular market segment today, ya think? I'm going with 99% likelihood it's an AI mashup. I just don't understand people's seeming need to constantly post lies and fake information. THIS is the famous image of Mr. Ford hitting a soy-based panel with an axe....and it's obviously an entirely different roofline. And below is the actual soy-based plastic-bodied car from 1941, with a link to another article about it. https://myflatheadford.com/fords-little-known-soybean-car/
  22. Thing is, I probably wouldn't lecture YOU on YOUR first language, but that's just me.
  23. "More" isn't always better.
  24. Yeah, no compression, she just goes ring-ring-ring-ring-ring really fast. Unmistakably obvious to an actual mechanic...
