Love it - wouldn't change a thing

Looks good to me. Love the colour combination.

Nice color! What is it?

I'm assuming that this community build is still open for new participants? is there a restriction on entries? I have a few ideas

Thanks again everyone – kind of surprised by all of the positive feedback on this one. This model looks much better in the pictures that it does in person, but then again, we’re all our own worst critic.

Thanks everyone. I'd love to own the 1:1 someday, but these cars are getting scarce. Most of them have either been crushed or hacked up for dirt track racing around here. I came across what I would call a "survivor" '78 El Camino the other day, so I had to stop and take a look. At minimum, it needed paint restoration, god knows what else under the hood. The FIRM asking price on the window was $19,000.00! I'm pretty sure that's more than what the car cost new.

yup-everybody remembers the cool guy on the street with the Monte Carlo/Cutlass/Malibu/ElCamino. Unfortunately they also remember the Mullets, high tops, and tight acid wash jeans yes-I'm an '80's kid. My generation will never forget!

Good look'n truck -
What a great build! You have to check out the build post to really appreciate the work gone into this one.

That's how I build most of my kits - especialy if the chassis and by are going to be different colors, which they almost always are. Don't know about anyone else, but it allows me to move forward with the build while the body + paint cure. I'm sure everyone has a way of aproaching things differently.

That's exactly how I feel, tho I beleive that the SS spoiler should have been mandatory on all versions of this erra. Something seems to be missing otherwise.

Thanks everyone. I'm very pleased with the results - surprised too how easy it was to acheive the effect. Did it over an evening with some brushes, 1/2 dozen colors, and a toothbrush. The surfboards were a little more effort to create the grain as they were plain white molded plastic. The body is painted in Flat Olive Drab, right from the can. I "polished" it to smooth it out, but the end result is a matte finish. I liked it, so I left off the clear. Its proving my theory that nearly any Hot Rod looks good in this color. @ rmvw guy: this kit started off as the "Good Guys" kit. A modified re issued version, if I'm correct. This version did not have the extra body, but it did have a '32 Ford grill with it, along with some other Hot Rod goodies that will pop up in some later builds. Had a lot of fun with this one, so I bought an older Monogram version, tho its labled as a '31 Model A Woody. Should be fun to build it's twin in stock form. @ TooOld: that is one of the nicest copliments I've received on any of my builds - thank you!

An older build, this is my fist (successful) experiment at executing a two tone paint job, using Testors One Coat Lacquer. Love the Testors Root Beer color, hence the name. Built as a curbside, as I was not overly impressed with the engine detail or the fit/finish of the hood.

Can't say how many times I almost threw out this build. Could not get the paint/clear coat to cooperate! I only "finished" it because my 2rd old son loves this car for some reason and kept asking me about it. Started off as the Monogram kit as the base and threw soem aprts box stuff at it along the way. Good intention, but the end results are not up to expectations. Doesn't look all that bad from 10ft away, so I guess that's a positive...

One of my favorite cars – this build was done with a resin trans kit purchased from eBay. Used some BMF and an old credit card to make the chrome side molding. The wheels are from an AMT ElCamino, and the emblems are from a PE kit for the AMT '77 Monte Carlo. The headlights are scratch built. Also my first experiment with making a Landau top. I was going for a “Stop Light Warrior” look with this one.

This was a build that almost never was. Originally I bought this kit as a parts donor for my Rat Rod builds, and had no intention of building it. After reading/watching some tutorials on wood grain effects using only paints, the build took a life of its own and this is the result. A few parts were mixed and matched from my parts box, but it is effectively box stock. Some of you may remember my post about the surf boards in the “All the Rest” forum. I’ll be uploading some proper pics shortly, but enjoy the crappy iPhone “teaser” pics until then.

Looks good-probably my favourite generation of the Impreza!
