  1. I like where this is going

She's not built for comfort! Just wanted something a little more uncommon than a typical Ford flat head or SBC power. Besides, Rat Rods don't need to make sense. You summed up perfectly my thoughts on the hobby Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.
  3. Those are some good look'n trucks I agree with Gergo - they look like a tun of fun! The plan is for my lilttle guy an I to get into this stuff when he gets a little older. The local RC race track had a demo in the mall a while back and he's definately hooked. For a 2yr old, he's definately developing into quite a piston head!

Started with a modified '31 Model A chassis from the Revell Rat Rod Sedan kit, the body is a tweaked (not twerk!) Jimmy Flintstone body. The flat head engine is a true kit bash in every sense - resin Ardun heads, parts in blower and some PE parts sprinkled in for good measure. The stance is higher than what I planned, but I'm pleased with it over all.
  5. That's one good looking Rat - if there is such a thing.....
  6. Looks great!
  7. Thanks for the kind words. It's pretty obvious looking and old photos and articles of that period that the installation of a roll bar was to meet the minimum tech requirements - not much more. Some pics I found showed the driver's head nearly 6" taller than the roll bar, while others seem to have the bar mounted only 4-6" higher that the rear deck lid. Should the unthinkable happen, the bar would be relying on you for protection! For my build,I felt that the roll bar should be at least the same hight as the chopped windsheild lol.
  8. A few more pics:
  9. Looks good to me. We all have "one of those" build now and again. I can see improvements in the overal finish in the last few builds you posted, so you must be doing something right. Keep it up. SC
  10. Maybe it should call be called something obvious
  11. The '56 Ford should be a good foundation to play with. I have a few in my collection - they offer so many possibilities. Can't wait to see more SC
  12. Many of the pics I saw of old modified Ts had the steering linkage coming out of the side, like I did here. Yup, I did forget to plug that hole in the firewall. Never claimed I did a good job on this lol
  13. Nice work-love the color!
  14. Glad you like it. I would have overlooked the nerf bar and chrome roll bar as well, but I literally received a Hot Rod mag in the mail when I started the build. The feature car was a T roadster with similar features. Figuered if these details were good enough to be a feature car 60yrs later, it's good enough for my build. The Offy was simply to make this a little different. SC
  15. Awesome - looks soooo realistic!
  16. Love it! It reminds me of my friends '64 barn find that he bought for $700 back in '04. It was red on red and he was going to replace the 318 V8 with a 413 (I think) that his uncle has laying around. He sold it for $1,400 a couple of weeks later without lifting a finger after someone made him an offer he couldn't refuese. SC
  17. Careful - it could be dangerous..... Thanks everyone. I bought the body "just because" and started the build with just an idea and no real plan or direction. Its kinda fun to see how it ends up.
  18. Since this post is in the "work bench" section, here's some pics on my not-quite-finished '53 Ford Restomod: Anyone want to guess what's under the hood? HINT: its not a modern engine or a V8!
  19. I blame my subscription to Hot Rod Deluxe for this one. Started off with a Jimmy Flinstone body and a modified AMT Model T chassis. I didn't like the front clip of the Flintstone body, so everything from the cowl forward was pieced together from my parts bin. Some parts, including the Offenhauser engine were sourced from from a Kurtis Midget. Hope you like it
  20. Cool idea for a project. Can't wait to see more. Its been many years since I tried to build this kit, don't have many positive memories...best of luck!
  21. What a great look'n smile lol
  22. Cool stuff - I like these kind of builds. I've always liked the less popular Nova body style too!
  23. Here's some quick iphone pics I took before I left for work this morning: I'll post some better outdoor pics once the Microscale Krystal Klear dires on the headlights. It's been two days now......
  24. A couple of quick iphone pics of the Rat I finished last night:
