  1. Almost done - this is my favorite step as this is were the results start to happen. Applying the Tamiya clear (yellow or orange depending on the look) makes all the difference. Still a little more work to be done, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results so far.
  2. Now its time for dry brushing - this is the whole reason why I "cut" the wood grain into the plastic
  3. Next is the base coat - Testors Wood enamel
  4. Next is the shading. For this I used Raw Umber. If you are skilled with an air brush, this would be a great time to flex your skills. Since I don't own a workign air brush - I did mine the old fashion way.
  5. Thanks - things will make a bit more sense when I poste the next few steps. Bear with me tho - the computer keeps locking up on me when I try to upload the pics.
  6. Now its time to focus on some wood. My biggest complaint so far on this kit is the lack of wood grain molded onto the Woody body. I suppose thats fine if you're using decals, but that's not what we're doing here. So the first step is to take out the knife and cut some curves and swirls: Looking better:
  7. Yup - that's the one.
  8. Here's the latest mock up: Still lots of work to be done....
  9. Whatching paint dry is boring, so I always seem to have 2-3 builds in progress. Why not one more? Had a lot of fun lately painting wood grain on my recent '30 Woody, so I bought a '31 and '41 to add to my collection. Here's the kit: Here's the "progress": The color is brighter than what I was expecting, but I can work with that. The inspiration is a Hot Wheels '40 Ford Woody that I had as a kid. I no longer own it, so I will be workign from memory lol. This will be a slow build, but I will post pics randomly from time to time. Should be fun!
  10. Great color choice - reminds me of the build on Power Block from a while back.
  11. David - thanks for the interest. Not much done lately, been a busy week. Here's a teaser of where I'm at:
  12. I do have a decal sheet with the Canadian flag on it, but I won't be unsing it on this build. I did sneek one on a Porsche build I did a few years back..
  13. How long has thins been sitting on the work bench!?!? lol can't wait to see what you do with this - sounds interesting!
  14. The cage looks great!
  15. Thanks for the feedback everyone... I made up my mind! Progress pics will be posted in the next few days...stay tuned...
  16. You nailed the raw metal look - great job!
  17. Thanks! I like it too-not too shabby for somethings cobbled together from spare parts.
  18. Real nice sedan!
  19. Awesome work - I need to get me one of these!
  20. This is not a subject I would have chosen, but I can appreciate hard work and skill when I see it. Despite your frustration and honesty, the build looks good. I don't see any tell tale signs of where you lost interest. God knows we've all been there. SC
  21. Thanks! The kit is based on the Revell '31 Model A Sedan with a Jimmy Flintstone body. The chassis was reworked to give it the "stance". The engine is a parst box flat head with resin Ardun heads. The blower & scoop is from my parts box as well - AMT '40 Ford kit if I'm correct.
  22. Thanks for the input. I've been doing a lot of shiny builds lately with my stock of pine stripe decals finding their way into most of them lol. For this one, I wanted to make something without. Change it up a bit....
  23. Well.... that's one opinion..... The beauty about a "Rat Rod" or Hot Rods in general is that the definitionis can be subjective. What a Rad Rot means to me is generally a verison of a Hot Rod that is neither a "Custom show car", or "Traditional" Hot Rod. To me, it has very little to do with the finish of the body work, but the thought, engeneering, and use of parts to create a ride that gives a raw, uncivilized look. But that's MY interpretation... that can be a discussion for another forum.....
