Which kit has the best HEMI?
Monty replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Wow, looks like someone tried to do their homework on the bus. That's a huge difference in length, even in this scale. I'm not a Mopar expert by any means, but I'm inclined to believe the white piece replicates the 1:1 more closely. Where are all our experts? I thought we'd have this resolved in half a day. -
Emmanuel, please check your Intenal Messages (envelope symbol at the top of the page) when you get a chance. Thanks!

This is so nice I expected to see Jeremy Clarkson sitting in it. You certainly do beautiful work, Gaurav. Wecome to our board!
-
Hmmm, sounds interesting. Wish I could see what Chuck sees...
-
Indeed. And keep in mind that the body was done with acrylic paint. Great job, Mike!

It won't be long before saying this word will make me look like the ultimate anachronism, so, while I still can...Duuuuude! Incredible work, Rod!

It may not have ended up the color you originally intended to paint it, but I think it worked out in your favor. In addition to making it look like that car just rolled off the assembly line, that icy blue paint just makes it pop! I also love the way you maximize every little detail on these old kits (see firewall). Congratulations on yet another eye-catching build.

Van Gogh Vantasy Chevy Van
Monty replied to bondo bill's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Just imagine if Vincent Van Gogh had been alive during the van/CB radio craze of the '70s. I wonder what he'd say if someone asked him if he had his ears on Here are a couple other artist/"van" ideas: Nissan Cube - Picasso version (cubism ) Claude Monet's Brinks truck - I got my mind on my Monet and my Monet on my mind. But seriously, anyone who can duplicate Starry Night that nicely on the side of a model is doing something right. Loved the depiction on the back doors, too! -
Did you happen to read the post above yours? Sounds like Vallejo created an improved thinner for these paints. If for some reason you can't get this thinner, you can experiment with water, rubbing alcohol, Windex etc. Grab a pack of white plastic spoons from Wal-Mart and spray away.

A corvette builders question

I wonder if you could still salvage this by offering to replicate the 1:1 cars he has in his garage. -

Craig, can you elaborate on this? What's missing or in need of replacement? -
Interesting. This kit has been around forever but we hardly ever see anyone showing them on here. If they can end up looking as nice as Jeff's, I have to wonder why. Jeff, if you get a chance, could we see some engine and chassis pictures?
-
Thanks, Al! That grille really makes the model stand out when it's detailed correctly, doesn't it? You've got some nice stuff in your collection. Did I see an early '80s Imperial in one of your other posts? Where'd that come from? Have you considered replicating your Porsche? Looks like a beautiful car.

A corvette builders question
Monty replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, but it's already got two strikes as far as the OP is concerned: it's 1/24 and it's a race car. I'm not familiar enough with it to know what it might take to bring it back to stock. -

Craig may be onto something in post #8 'cuz '64 & '66 might be tough to find in 1/25 styrene. -
Bonus points to Adam just for coming up with The Sprue Lagoon. My younger brother had one of those blue & silver mini-Mopars. This being a family board, I can't repeat what he thought of "Chrysler engineering" during the '80s, but you have to wonder why a car's front seats would start to incline toward each other after just a few years. Yikes!
-
Al, can I talk you into posting some more pics of that Cougar? (Engine, interior, chassis?) We don't see many built ones on here, and yours looks especially nice.
-
Nice work on that one, Rod! I love the stance you created and all the detail you put into it, including the dirt in the rear tire tread. Did you have to do much to get those back tires to fit inside the wheel wells? Can't wait to see what else you've built.

A corvette builders question
Monty replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For the most part, you'll be paying $45.00+ for the MPC '73-'77 kits because they're virtually all that's available for those years. Yes, AMT took a couple stabs at a few C3s, but their body designs were visually "off" to even casual observers. 1978-1982 MPC 'Vettes are fairly cheap & with careful shopping can be had for around $10.00. The MPC "Dragon 'Vette" is supposed to be an '82, and while MPC did manage to add the Crossfire Injection badges to the front fenders, they neglected to make the necessary changes to the engine. The kit still contains the base L-48 carbureted small block, which was not available in '82. You'll need to do some kitbashing if that's going to be an issue. If you're going to build the '82 Collector's Edition, you'll need to steal the wheels from the Monogram kit and pray that someone makes 1/25 decals for it. I feel bad that the '63 will have to be represented by either the ancient AMT kit with no suspension detail or the Revell snap kit, which I know nothing about since I can't be bothered to look at snap kits. Sounds like a fun project! -
I mentioned the 351C vs 351W issue in post 6. I hope it gets fixed in the catalog, but I'm not holding my breath.
