Finally managed to get this one finished. This is the car that Andy Granatelli entered for the 1967 Indy 500. Designed by Ken Wallis, the car nearly won the race, defeated by a bearing failure with a handful of laps to go. You can read more about the car here: http://stp50.com/uk/extra41.html I added some details, such are brake lines, but basically it is out of the box. I replaced the kit decals with Indycals. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Dave. I didn't realise there was a new sub-forum. I copied this one over to it.

This is one I just finished up. The frame is from the old Revell parts pack. Wheels, tires and front axle from the Tony Nancy kit, rear axle donated by Beemopar, a bunch of scratch built bits, including the aluminum headers. The engine is from the original Double dragster kit. Hope you like it.

I really like the way that is shaping up Brian. Great work so far, and I really hope you get inspired to make more progress with it.

My latest work in progress, Granatelli's famous "Silent Sam" which shook up Indianapolis in 1967. The kit is the MPC 1/20 scale, a very good and quite well detailed kit, and a pleasure to build. I was luck enough to score 2 of these kits, in mint condition, on e-bay.

This one is Jim Clark's winning car, using the Testor's Famous Ford kit (one of the worst abominations on the planet!).

This is one of the vintage indy cars I recently completed. It is the 1955 John Zinc Special, driven to victory in 1955 by Bob Sweikert. It is based on the old Monogram kit, with a bunch of mods to the engine and body.

A fitting tribute, beautifully built Craig. And we will never forget! -
A very good, cheap and amazingly clever tip Dan!

1955 Mercedes 300 SLR - Finished!
S10man replied to S10man's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Here it is with its distinctive #722 numbering (denoting its start time in the Mille Miglia). Thanks for looking and for all your kind comments so far. -
I can't say for sure Dave, but I suspect they are very similar, at least as far as the chassis/engine are concerned. The most significant changes on the Royale line were the body work but different coach-builders. My kit had a bunch of parts left over including a different grill etc so I suspect the tooling of a lot of the parts are for several different kits.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! The seat upholstery is kit-supplied decals. They go on well (some Microsol helps) but are a bit too shiny, so I need to dull them down a bit. The body is painted with Rust-oleum Metallic Silver over grey primer. There is no clear coat or Future....its meant to look like basically bare aluminum. By the way, the front air scoop mesh is from an old Lotus kit, cut and shaped to fit the opening and painted silver. -
Thanks very much for the kind words everyone! Next one is the 1965 Lotus 38, Clark's winning car.
-
Thanks Brian! Its a good size, almost 10" long!

This was an old AMT kit (actually a glue bomb) that I bought on e-bay. It took a ton of work to get it all apart and cleaned up ready to rebuild, but all in all it turned out pretty well. It makes a nice companion to Gurney's car which I did earlier this year. Thanks for looking.

This is a Testors/Italeri kit, which I found was quite a good, detailed, easy to build kit. Thanks for looking.

This is an old Entex 1/16 kit that I bought, partially built, on e-bay. It was completely disassembled and then rebuilt. I added a number of things, such as ignition wires and copper fuel lines. The gauges were printed on regular computer paper.

This is a built model I recently bought on e-bay: After a total disassemble, stripping, sanding, and scraping, I have it restored to somewhat nicer condition. New decals are from Indycals. Thanks for looking.

Daryl. I just received the information you sent. Thanks so much...it is excellent and will be well used for my next Lotus-Ford build.

Gauge faces for your builds.

Some of those will be quite useful Ken. Thanks for sharing them. -
Thanks for the offer Daryl. I've e-mailed you with my address.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Daryl: You have a nice collection of Lotus's there! I will be building Clark's companion to the Gurney car later this year. I also have the Lotus 38 to do as Clark's '65 winner.

Thanks Mike. Yes, that is the old AMT Indy kit. I've done the Roadster (see one of the threads below). The McLaren is next. They go together pretty well. Rubber tires would be nice but the plastic ones are ok if you clean them up and scuff them with 0000 steel wool. New decals from Indycals are almost a necessity as well. The old decals in 2 of these kits I've seen have lost a lot of their original colour.
