  1. Wonderful seeing resin kits like this one, they are usually not the mainstream subjects. Yours is really nice !!
  2. I stand corrected, sorry Tom !
  3. I have a Consumer Guide / Collectible Automobile Quarterly from the 80's with a feature article on the '57, '58, '59 Fords that mentions the 430 as an "unadvertised" option. Admitidly I'm a little sceptical also, I've read a lot of automotive references in my 60 years and this was a new one on me. I suppose during Detroits official racing boycott going on some "skunkworks" versions may have been available. The chassis would have accepted a MEL series motor, the similar Edsel used the MEL engine family.
  4. Anne "all that detail stuff" is from a pile of Evergreen sheet styrene, stretched plastic sprue, and an assortment of old kit parts. The only aftermarket item is the radiator cap and some of the wires. It's fun to scratch build stuff. Get a picture of the detail you need and get creative ! Thanks and have fun..........JD
  5. Very nice representation of the subject car. Looks bigger than 1/43rd ! I had the pleasure of working at Tangible Toys here in Florida where we assembled continuation Cheetahs using chassis and bodies from Bill Thomas's original Cheetah fisture and molds. Your model has the look.......
  6. Really like the historical details on the chassis , never realized they were there. Did you use silly putty masking or just a steady hand for painting the chassis?
  7. Amen brother !! Turn on the am radio and adjust the knobs on the Wayback machine Sherman !!!!
  8. I'd LOVE to be at Milwaukee ! But your right, it's not going to happen. I've often wondered how the hell I'd fly with several models in tow. Thanks to all for the positive comments.......... JD
  9. This is a Tom Coolidge / Promolite resin curbside converted to full detail using the AMT '58 Edsel. The motor represents a rare Lincoln 430 option and would have made this lightwieght car a potent performer. The resin carves easily and the casting was nice so the engineering itself presented the challenge here. Both cars have the same wheelbase so the kit chassis works well. My dremel thinned panels for a better appearance. Paint is Tamiya rattle can
  10. Front engine Ferrari's are wonderful cars, yours is an excellant example. Nice Paint !!
  11. My rating of the C7 compared to the previous Corvette generations : C1 through C6 ( but not neccesarily in that order, I love all of them ), then the C7. DOH !!!!
  12. That's a really nice looking Edsel...... Clean build, nice detail.
  13. Super job, nice color and tire selection. Nice to see a Merc too !
  14. Really nice job ! Converting promos or lumpy old resin castings to fully developed models is not for everyone. I'm putting a resin '59 Ford 300 on a '58 Edsel kit. My dremel has been busy. Looks like your promo body excaped the dreaded promo warping demons.........
  15. Under strict definition some of us probably are hoarders. The term has gotten a really bad label as of late because of the T.V. show. I for one DO NOT store my feces in mason jars or collect used adult diapers so if I'm deemed a "hoarder" strictly due to my kit collection I'm cool with it ...........
  16. The stuff that dreams were ( and still are ) made of. I had the basic Stingray ( grape metalic ) about '63 or '64. Always envied the shifter models. But mine DID have a slick style rear tire and that was VERY cool. The irony of it all; mine was STOLEN while parked in front of a toy store - Playland - in Gary Indiana, I WAS INSIDE BUYING A MODEL !
  17. That's a great looking build. What a lovely roof line without padded vinyl top and landau bars to clutter it up..............
  18. For the life of me I have not been able to find a dedicated web site or descriptive information regarding the "NNL". Where is it, who is it, does it have officers, treasurers, what does "NNL" stand for, can I join, etc, etc. I see contests billed as "NNL style", what is NNL style? NNl regional and national events draw large numbers of quality participants but I never see the events posted for pre-registration.I'd like to know more about it's history too.
  19. As much as I respect and admire the Pettys it's nice to see some of the other early Nascar drivers get a little attention. Ray Nichols and Goldsmith were based in Griffith In., near my hometown. I actually met Paul twice. He was a nice, unassuming guy. People dont realize what he accomplished in his career. Anyway your off to a good start on a neat car, looking forward to seeing it completed !
  20. I made my scripts using the Widow fuelie decals and some sheet styrene molded into the front fender between the headlight and wheel well. But the script sets for the solid axle vettes ( and the '60 Impala I think? ) have better fuelie scripts that should work well. You can find some referance photos online with a little research. There are a couple of red fuelie Impala convertibles and a Bel Air sedan that I found..........
  21. Bill, FYI, I used the '57 Black Widow motor. It's injection unit is a good match for a '59 unit. The silver A.C. air cleaner is mounted on the radiator core in a '59. You'll need a lenth of flex conduit to reach it, something like the 427 Thunderbolt Fairlanes used. The stamped steel valve covers from the Widow are right also......
  22. Hi Bill, I'm the '59 Biscayne fuelie guy. I'm already envious of your build details! The windshield header mod is something I certainly missed. About your hinge design: does your front door edge bind against the fender?, especially with the tight gap lines ? Your hinges "look right" and the front jam openings are impressive too. Looking forward to the finished item !
  23. Dude that belongs in the GM Motorama archives ! Very true to the concepts back then.
  24. Played around with Photobucket edit to give this build a little more "charactor". Didnt really change the basic build though. Seems like now more than ever how a model is presented in photograph has an impact on how people perceive it. I think my photo mods are in the spirit of traditional box art but I also realize there is potential for controversy such as the "removal" of paint flaws, etc.
  25. The complete chrome package comes with the kit, nice no seams or tree boogers. Contact Tom Hoover : promolite@aol.com . He has many unusual and seldom seen kits.
