Modelhaus Order Question
gtx6970 replied to 71drolds's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The times I did buy from Modelhause, it was at a show. Every item I've bought from them has been top shelf quality. But I prefer to put my hands on something made via the aftermkt if at all possibile. If the reputation is good ( Holthause is one of them ) . I will make exceptions to this,,,,within limits . I've bought several resin items from Missing link and have each and every piece in my hand under a week ( usually 2 or 3 days) they are also in that 'no worries 'catagory . I ordered a body from Competition Resin a few months ago, day of order to day of delivery was about 2 1/2 weeks. Same deal, no worries. Recently received a Flintstone body and had I seen it in person first I would not have bought it. I sell parts for vintage muscle car restoration supplies/parts. and if I took nearly 2 months to complete said sale. I would get burned at the stake. -

Aren't these same tires in the pro street versions of the 1968 Roadrunner and the 1970 Coronet

Can you tell I like old drag cars AMT Rat Packer Nova Old Resin bodied Johan 1964 Dodge , I built this A LOONG time before the Lindberg kit came out , this car the cleared white is yellowing pretty bad so it's showing it's age And The Revell 1967 Coronet done as the Shirley Shahan superstocker. I had the chance meeting to talk to Shirley about the same time this kit came out and asked about the color and she told me it was a pearl white

More of my own builds The Gas Ronda and Hubert Platt's Thunderbolts - both built box stock
-
A couple I bought several years ago as already done off Ebay and no idea who built them - Both resin body kits. I think the Landy 1965 AFX is a Good Stuff kit . Dutchman Dart is resin body on a Polar lights chassis

A couple from the built many years ago files. I built them at least 15, probably closer to 20 years ago Johan 1969 Road Runner kit Along with an old MPC original 1967 Color Me Gone Charger funny car. The Charger has mix of Fred Cady and homemade decals .

your work bench
gtx6970 replied to dabelltoller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What work bench, I have a 6 ft long by 2 ft deep L shaped wood area covered with various model pieces parts paints and tools , I haven't seen this thing called a 'work bench' in years. Although I do occasionaly get to see an area that resembles wood about 18" by 18" from time to time . -
On line source for Bare Metal Foil

Anyone used the model masters foil sheets ?????? compariable to BMF better than or stay away from it ? my local hobby shop stocks it and not BMF brand. -
I learned a long long long time ago, none are ever going to be that perfect build. Or as detailed as some of the great builders on here as an example. Although I would love to be at that level,,,,,I simply don't have the patiance or the time to do it. Not to mention my eyes or my fingers want to work as well as they did 25 years ago so thats a factor as well. Realizing before hand that mistakes ARE going to be made makes it an easier decision to live ' with ' them or ' fix ' them . Just last week I painted 4 Lindberg 1964 Dodge bodies, 2 went in the to be stripped pile ( but to be honest they probably just become parts kits for other projects) ,, , the other 2 came out pretty decent. Add in I lost interest to compete in model contests. So I build them to the level where I think I will be happy with them. Making them as accurate as I can,,,,, 'within a reasonable effort'. Put them on the shelf and move on to the next one. I restore the full size cars so model bench time is limited to maybe an hour or two during the week and maybe a couple hours on the weekends , maybe more during winter months when Car show / swap meet season dies down Plus, My daughter has taken an interest in building so I want to mentor that as well.( she's 12 )

Roger, I looked into just using the Reliable resin / scoop pkg. Actually I saw one at a show this past winter and it appeared to be the scoop was just glued down on top of the hood instead sunk into / molded in to the hood ,which ( again IMO ) makes it look to tall. And the 2 piece design makes , for me , is too much work. had the scoop been molded into the hood like the master I have done , IMO . I think it would make for a much better finished product. I have my master packed up and will ship it of tomorrow morning. so I should know something in the next few weeks how this is going to work out

Your favourite Box art
gtx6970 replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
2 more of my favorites. Although these are dealer promotionals ( another one of my vices ) I've always wondered how the Johan 1969 GTX box was so similar to the MPC 1969 Barracuda box and yet be from 2 completely different companies. -
I'm currently talking to a caster about the possibility so we'll see where this goes . On an application note though . Don Grotheer , John Hagen and John Petrie all used the same hood in 1970 ,,,,, some even modified in a similar way as the Sox and Martin car with an enlarged opening. Decals are avail for the S+M car as well as the Grotheer car. I'm not aware of decals to do the John Hagen or the John Petrie cars( sure wish they were though,,,hint hint ) The Petrie car might not be to bad to replicate in paint but the Hagen car would be a bit tough

has anyone used testors "wet look" clear.....
gtx6970 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been using Duplicolor spray cans on the last dozen or so cars I've painted, And I've used the Duplicolor clear and had mixed results , so I tried and use this on 90% of want I want to clear now. It's urethane -

Lindberg 1964 Superstock Dodges - 2 at once ? oh why not.
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Got a chance to do some work on the Iron Butterfly car this weekend. Grille is detailed and assembled. and I painted the interior to do a mockup and ck how the colors look inside the body. I haven't been able to come up with anything to show if this car used the simple non patterned door panels like real 1964 Superstock Hemi cars, or if it just used the more common Dodge 440 interior . I don't need it to be 100% accuarate , but I want it to represent the actual car reasonably well for my shelf. So I decided to just wing it and just use the stock lindberg interior panels painted in a color scheme typical for model year.,....which was a medium tan with medium brown accents. From some reason the picture makes the interior it look considerably darker than it is in natural light. But I'm happy with it and once the floorpan is painted flat black like the originals,, I'll add a roll bar , glue it together and call it done....then concentrate on the drivetrain. -
I can relate
