Some Old War horses from days gone by ( OLD Builders )
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Cars
Last but certaintly not least. Original MPC 1972 Duster. Arlen Vanke kit. This is another one with said same raided underhood details, and the original kit decals . Comments are welcome and actually encouraged. For all the old timers reading this, If you have builders from your youth that survived the firecrackers and lighter fluid days,,,,,,, PLEASE show them off with pride. Thanks again. -

Next, the Johan 'Fast Eddie ' Schartman Comet stocker. I think its painted in cheap testors yellow and original kit decals. With the afore mentioned ' raided ' underhood detail supplies. Although I don't consider myself a Ford/Mercury fan,, this is one of my favorites and I bought it exactly the way you see it , maybe ???? 10 years ago . As Old race cars are where my main interests lie. Plus,,,This one just looks 'cool' . -

Another MPC Don Carlton Pro stock kit. This time the 1972 Cuda kit. Body is molded in black plastic and unpainted . Interior was poorly hand painted in some kind of nasty looking yellow. I think I may have to change that some day soon though.Otherwise it's built 100 % right out of the box and actually makes decent looking piece on the shelf. -

MPC Don Carlton Duster pro stock kit. Painted in some kind of dull black, the hood fits like ###### and I think I may have to raid the parts box to fix that missing tail light though. This one I think has Fred Cady decals on it, although I'm not 100% certain either way -
The old guys here might appreciate these. These are all old builders I've picked up over the last 10-12 years in hopes to redo some day. Problem is, I can't bring myself to take them apart. I take them off the shelf once in a while to take them aprt and redo them,,,, but end up just wiping off the dust and put them back. They're far from prefect and the pictures make them look so much better than they really are. But they have character and in my mind shows how well( or lack of ) built cars back before we had all the nice detail supplies of today. Window trim is simple silver brush paint. For spark plug wires / engine wiring , we raided moms sewing box for different color thread. For fuel lines and battery cables , we raided dads tool chest for some thin wire. I can't take credit for any of them , all were bought exactly the way you see them here. I don't think any were from the same sellers. So I guess we just all had similar styles and actually had to do some thinking to set ourselves apart from all our building buddies. None are perfect, and since my ownership i've tried to clean them the best I can without damaging decals or details, The ones with window trim and wiper blades highlighted are done with silver paint. There is no bare metal foil on any of them . Enjoy 1st off the original MPC Sox and Martin Duster. This one doesn't have an engine in it. maybe some day it will again. Other than the roof and hood scoop none of the body is painted, it's all kit decals.

Good Spray Can Clear
gtx6970 replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use this when ever I can. Lays down nice ( I try my best not to have to dig out an airbrush ) -
Buddy of mine used to have one. Do NOT ride in one if you don't like a lot of attention. I will say, Running down the road at a 'some what slighly more than the posted speed limit ' with a pretty healthy small block ford screaming right behind your head is pretty wild to say the least

Missing Link 1969-1975 Dodge Hubcaps

I picked up a set of the 67 Dodge full hubcaps a few weeks ago ( along with several others items ) and I have to agree You will not be dis-appointed with anything from Missing Link -
What is your eBay strategy?
gtx6970 replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on what I'm after. If it's just a casual item I would like to have but could live without. I'll put a bid on it and let it go. Some I get, some I don't. If it's something I really want, Usually I'll snip it at the last few seconds,,, I don't have a sniper program. I open 2 windows and have my max bid already to go on one, then watch the auction ending on the other, when the 2nd gets to about 5 seconds left , I'll hit confirm bid on the 1st. I win some and I lose some. But I don't pay over what the item is worth to me. There is nothing out there I absolutly have to have. When something gets to crazy money. In most cases it draws out several more over the next few weeks that will rarely bring anywhere close to the final bid on the 1st did. I always ck to see what postage costs are and bid accordingly. -

"Holy Grail" Models?
gtx6970 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me , it's the original MPC 1968 Color Me Gone Charfer funnycar. I have a builder to tackle someday. I had a mint unbuilt kit ,, but like an idiot sold it a few years back, and I would like to have another someday if the price is right. A close 2nd is the Johan 1963 Dodge Polara hardtop kit. I have one builder but need maybe 3 or 4 more ( no real interest in an unbuilt version ) Theres been a rash of builders and unbuilts on Ebay lately but I'm not paying the prices what this kit goes for. I have one for now, and I don't think I have over $40 in it. -
I started this build back when the Mr Norm 1968 Dart first came out. The hood I think is a resin piece I bought off Ebay, so I have no idea who made it) The Engine , trans and headers are all out of the revell Sox and Martin 1967 GTX . Intake is a parts box piece( maybe a johan?? ) Seats I am not sure where they came from. Primary colors are all done with rattle cans, with the lettering and stripes from Slixx. Clear over it all,, then polished out with Meguirs detail polish. This was another project that sat in the case unfinished for about the last 10 years. So I dug it out and got my butt in gear and finished it the last week or 10 days. edit, The Charger is an original MPC annual done as a Landy car,,,,,,,, A LOOOOOONNNNNG time ago . I can't take credit for it though, I bought it as is many years ago Hope you like it.

I've seen the AFX mustang kit advertised and keep thinking about picking one up. But can someone tell me if this is an accurate tooled kit ? Or just a reboxed Street Freaks kit ?

looks killer. Under hood looks dead on the real car. even the ring on the fuel filters matches. -
How important are panel lines to you?
gtx6970 replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll go over door gaps and such to some degree. I build for my own enjoyment and not some judge and if I keep adding detail after detail to the ninth degree it becomes no longer enjoyable. No offense meant to the ones who do take them that far. It's just not for me That said ,,,, and besides,,,,,, majority of the builds I like to do . don't have door openings anyway -
Next is the Bud Faubel 1964 Dodge This one has plug wires, carb fuel lines and linkages, and I added one of the then new photoetched grilles.( don't remember who the grille came from ) And working Photo etched hood pins and bezels,, Just for some added realism.

These were done essentially as soon as the Lindberg kit came out, so it's been a while. 1st is the Fugitive driven by Tom Powell. Other than plug wires and Fred Cady decals it's essentially right out of the box .

QUESTION? 64 Dodge to 65 Dodge
gtx6970 replied to moparfarmer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are you wanting to convert the Lindberg 1964 Plymouth to a sedan like the Lindberg 1964 Dodge is ? If so Jimmy Flintstone makes a resin body for this conversion. I have one enroute to me now and should be here tomorrow afternoon if you want a reference good or bad. And I just measured the Lindberg 1964 dodge and compared them to a Polar Lights 1965 Dodge. The Lindberg body is almost 3/16" on an inch narrower than the PL 1965 Dodge body is so it would not be an easy swap. plus the curverture at the base of the ft and rear glass is different between the 2
