69 COPO Nova COMPLETE, Finally (PIC HEAVY)
Lovefordgalaxie replied to lghtngyello03's topic in Model Cars
Oh that Nova looks great. The color really suits the car. The newer "cars" look even worse close to the big V8 Nova. -
Many dealers had their own plate bolted to the holder when the car was on showroom floor. A good idea would be to use a simple Ford oval with the model year below for a brand new in the dealer car. On my builds I like to "pretend" the cars is mine, so I fit them all with current Brazilian plates, correct for my state and town.

The licence plate holder came from the factory. It was a simple "T" shaped steel structure where one would latter bolt the licence plate to. The same basic part as the one on the picture below.

Used Tamiya TS-11 Maroon. It's a great match for Ford Mandarin Maroon and the same color renamed for the post war as Manson Maroon. -
Now we'r talking!!! There on the upper part of the emblem, one can read Super DeLuxe, just above a number 8. If you don't want risk making a hole on the little chrome trim between the hood and the door, just leave the mirror out. The cars didn't come from the plant with outside mirrors. It was an accessory. Still wish the kit had trim rings tough.
-
Another "pain" on those kits is the fact they provide us with the accessory cowl trim mirror, but don't indicate the need of the little hole where it goes. On my Sedan Coupe and on my Wagon I drilled a small hole on the center of the cowl chrome trim to install it. Did it after the trim was foiled. A little tricky.
-
Think about a beautiful model!!! Don't want to be a pain Geoff, but the bonnet emblem is upside down. Wish this kit came with trim rings. The closest ones are from the AMT '40 Ford, and those don't fit the wheels nicely.

Started on December 29 with the painting of the body Tamiya Maroon, this kit was finished this Wednesday. Just a quick project to get in the mood for more Fords. This year, I plan on only building Ford cars, and nothing else. Still have to finish a 1/12 scale '57 Bel Air for my cousin, but that is almost done. The next car will be a 1948 Ford Custom Coupe, for the same cousin. He wants it as a '60s custom, and I'm planning to get a stock body for it if possible. Think the chopped body is really ugly and disproportional. if only he wanted a factory stock '48... Well, one can dream. Back to this baby here, I have her since '99. I'm not much of a fan of wagons (specially woodies) but since it was a Ford, and I was buying the convertible at the same store... Well, the wagon sit untouched for about ten years, when I ruined the original box to get a road print it had on the bottom. Relocated the parts to a mailing box, and that ended giving me some unexpected trouble latter. Last December, I got the old wagon kit to "steal" it's tires, as I wanted the Good Years for my Sedan Coupe build. The wagon was built with the tampo printed wide whites no names from the Sedan Coupe kit. The wood resulted so so, as it was my first time trying to replicate the stuff on a body, and one can say it's just painted plastic from far. The relocation of the parts from the original box resulted in losing one of the tailgate handles. Tiny chrome piece, lost God knows when. Replaced both with some handles from my parts box. Not stock, but close. Also, somehow, the paint on the cowl resulted darker than the rest. The body was painted with the same paint, and all parts at the same time, so I really got puzzled with what happened. I just noticed it when had already did the wood, so I decided to leave it as is, and not to give it a second coat of maroon. Finished the convertible? I'm dying to see her completed. LOVED the pictures of the work in progress.
-
Thanks again guys!! I used automotive synthetic enamel. It's a little hard to come by in automotive grade those days,
-
Thanks guys!! I use a circle template to airbrush them. Just find the hole that is the right size, cover all the others, tape the tire to the template and airbrush some acrylic semigloss white.

Almost got her finished in 2016 still. Almost. The Revell 1948 Ford Sedan Coupe Super Deluxe kit is just great. Builds easily and without major issues. In fact, the only one I have was with the rear window, that is just a tad bigger than the opening on the roof, and is a real pain to get in place without making a mess. Almost made my own window out of acetate. Another detail I didn't particularly loved was the no name tires. It kind of cuts the realism of the thing. Had to fix that. Used the tires from my '48 Ford Woody kit. Had to paint wide whites on them, but it was worth the effort. On my Ford I used automotive synthetic enamel, and tried to replicate the finish of Ford's Medium Luster Black. Now, seeing the model complete, I noticed I forgot to paint the gearbox... Oh well, I got more three of those kits, so the next one will be painted the right color. One bad thing happened because of this kit tough. My cousin saw it on the making, and bought the Custom Coupe. Guess who will be building the butchered Ford? Hope you guys like her. Looks like the army guys were having fun swapping engines on the Deluxe Tudor. BTW, some foil would make a great improvement on the Sedan Delivery Deluxe.

WOW!!!!!! What a beauty!!! Almost made me like Mopars. Great idea on making the front wheels poseable. Harry would ask about the tie rod tough -
That is a cool looking car. The color is not my cup of tea, but it suits the overall look you wanted to get, kind of a very mild custom? Want this kit for some time, but those are hard to get here.
-
Loved them!! The Heller kits are great looking when done, but can be a pain to actually get there. Super nice looking '57 Ford!!

My last '16 build. AMT '40 Ford vintage box art

I like that a lot. So cool. I would had used a flathead mill, but I guess that would deviate from the box art theme. -
Terrible Kits You Love!
Lovefordgalaxie replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I was a kid I saw a Revell 1955 Chevrolet kit on a store on Sunday. It was closed, but it was close to my school. Spent a week saving my lunch money to get it. On next Monday, when the break came I slipped out of school, having to dodge not one but two priests (It was a Salesiano school ran by priests disciples of Don Bosco. There I learned to love mathematics and physics, what ultimately led me to study engineering). On my way back, I was cough getting back in... Father Luis, the Math teacher saw me, and wanted to see what I had in the plastic bag. When he saw the Revell box, he asked me to come with him to the principal's office (Father Lino) and there, I saw about 20 built kits!!! And they were super neatly built and painted. All '50s and '60s cars. Father Luis told me to keep building kits, and that was a most healthy hobby, and sent me back to philosophy class (when was detention when I needed it??). When I got home, and opened the box... The kit couldn't be built stock, only as a gasser. Think about a disappointed 9 year old. -
