  1. Yes, that's true. I wanted to remove the side spears, and the rocker moldings, but still have at least one chrome detail. The Lindberg / AMT kit is kind of tough to de chrome. The side trim is all separate parts, and you have the fill their locating spots on the body, as opposed to just sand the trim off. Almost didn't do it. Thanks!!

  3. I'm with the guys that say the car looks pretty good. If we consider the fact it's your first resin conversion, (being there done that, and hate resin bodies) it looks awesome. I would just add the bits of foil missing from the windshield trim, as the A columns are covered with a stainless steel piece of trim on the 1:1, and no paint shows. This detail was shared between the Galaxies and Fairlanes of the same vintage, and AMT failed to catch this detail.

  5. It looks so real I can hear the hot 348 Chebby's rough idle from here, and smell the racing gas. This is the best build of the Lindberg '40 I ever saw.

  7. I had this one in the works before starting on the '56 Ford I posted a WIP thread about, and just felt like finishing this one first. It's done according to my taste on non stock vehicles. Base kit is a Lindberg pace car I got with no decals and missing the up top. Did some basic bodywork to shave the side trim, than painted the body Mandarin Maroon (1940 Ford color) with synthetic enamel. Painted the interior plain insignia red. Lowered the suspension, using lowering blocks on the rear, and actually cutting the spring and moving the A arms like it would happen on the 1:1 car. Wheels are resin. Hubcaps are from the AMT '56 Ford kit. Tires are original Lindberg. Also shaved the emblems, hood "jet plane" and the deck lid handle/trim. The engine is the original from the kit, with heads and intake from my parts box. The oil filter was "machined" on the dremel. Also replaced the stock mufflers with Kadron glasspacks. If the car were a 1:1, it wouldn't be one less '53 Ford, as all mods could be reversed back to showroom stock. Hope you like it.
  8. Built one just like yours. MIne has the stock interior, and the "modern" Motor City Flathead hop up goodies from the '48 Ford kit. I had the grille and headlight doors chrome, but since posted, I decided to paint them, to give the car a more stock appearance.
  9. I really dig the color. Looks like "Jade Green" used on the 1973 Brazilian Galaxie. I have about 400ml of the paint for some future build.

  11. Well, I happen to love her. She had a bunch of problems, and I still love her. Have her two CDs, plus the singles she released after reunited into a third CD, and love her music. I'm younger than most of you, and I identify more with The Spice Girls than with The Beatles (heresy). If you ask me the name of a great singer, I'll answer Dido, or Irina Bilyk. I love old cars, Frank Sinatra, and Bach, but also listen to what I used to when I was in school and college.

  14. Thanks!! Thank you!! Thanks!! So he used the hubcap as a dog dish? That's fun!! My grandfather had a set of 1951 Ford hubcaps as plant vase bases. The ones with the big F. I also have a unusual use for a Ford hubcap. Use a 1967 Galaxie hubcap (the Ford hubcap used in the U.S. in 1965, and 1966, both on Fairlanes and full size line) as a carburetor small parts washer. Have a set on my '74 Galaxie, a extra set decorating my garage's wall, and this one is on ative duty as a mechanic, LOL!!!
  15. Body is in color. Painted with the Tamiya spray can. I'm on the fence about using clear. Think the shine is quite enough. Even when I'm building a non stock, it looks like I end choosing colors next to stock. The Tamiya TS-64 could pass as Nocturne Blue Poly. A factory color for 1956...

  19. Body all in primer. Next step is foiling the emblems, and Paint!!! Have to have a sunny day to paint. Tamiya spray paint is not much fond of humidity.

  23. Almost done with the body. I take my time doing this, as it's in my opinion the most important phase of building a kit. No paint job will look good on a body full of mold lines, flash, and small defects. Once in a while something escapes, but I try to avoid it. One of the more fiddly parts of this kit, are the headlight doors, or trim pieces. The area around them on the body have some deep mold lines to help. Since this will be a single tone car, the work is a little bit less complicated. I glues the headlight doors in place on the body, and will have to use some putty to make them to conform with the fenders. After that, I'll have to re scribe the separation line between the headlight doors and fenders. Did the same thing on the other '56 Fords I built, and also on the '57 Thunderbird.
