Scott Colmer Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Not a picture of an old model - A old model photograph in all it's 110, 35mm, or polaroid glory. Bring on those depth challenged, lighting impaired oldies that we still love to look at. First up - Modeler's bedroom 1975ish. Almost none survived. Fat Brian Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 This is probably my oldest finished model, it's close to twenty years old now.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Either this one: ...or this one: Who's the happiest in the bunch? Steve
ChrisBcritter Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 It's my party and I'll be happy if I want to... although I think I was being a wee bit too happy for a Monogram Porsche 904.
gtx6970 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) I think this one is the oldest I have that I built. Johan Roadrunner with the S+M Johan bird decals Built about the late 80s time frame ,,, As far as old old old pics of me and or my models ,,I got nothing Edited April 7, 2015 by gtx6970
pharoah Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 OK Sherman, set the wayback machine to 1962. Not the best pictures, but it's all I have from then. These are taken from the ancient 8mm home movies we had converted to DVD. The light blue Chevy pickup is the AMT 1961,with the trailer. My oldest brother built these. He could actually get a decent brush painted finish - or it at leatst looked good to me then. I was 10. The model T is a Lindberg,I think. The dark blue car with my grubby hand on it is a Renault Dauphine with the Hemi and slicks from the original AMT 32 Ford roadster. Onepicture shows a remote controlled car of some kind. Mercury? I don't remember it. Any oldtimers know what it is?
Foxer Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 This had to be about 1962 as I was 16 when I did this. It won 1st in custom class and lost Best in Show because they said it wasn't "roadable". I guess it wasn't because I used every trick I had to lower it to a scale 48" high. A '40 Ford sedan that was obviously based on the Matador. I'm embarrassed that this is the best slide I got with my 35 mm camera, but I don't think I had an SLR yet.
Greg Myers Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Probably around 1965 ,High School, first AMT Double Tee kit Edited April 7, 2015 by Greg Myers
pharoah Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Very cool,Mike! But how many custom cars are 'roadable'?
Helix Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Great idea Scott! Like what I've seen so far Well, here's my builds from around 1980 using an old Canon Polaroid camera, all that's left intact is the Chevelle..... Pretty sure the Chevelle is a Monogram kit and as for the two Camaros, I know they are, they were the twin turbo street machine ones from Monogram. The General + Ford Louiville are AMT I think and the black Chevy pickup was the MPC 'Scottsdale' kit. The maroon Chevy is a Monogram and the JD is an ERTL kit, probably worth a small fortune now !! I do have a few bits and pieces left from most of these kits... Cheers Ray Edited April 9, 2015 by Helix
Ramfins59 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Here's my oldest picture...... It's a copy of a picture from my High School yearbook from my Senior Year in 1965. I'm the guy in the middle and the model that my friend Mike is holding is (I think) my 1962 T-Bird. Mike, Lou and myself were the only guys who were into building models back then. Sorry the picture isn't a little better, but I scanned it from my yearbook......from 50 years ago...!!! I couldn't do that pompadour hair comb now if my life depended on it...... Not enough hair left...
Foxer Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Very cool,Mike! But how many custom cars are 'roadable'? No kidding! I still get upset thinking about it,, eheheh
wayne swayze Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 The folks at Custom Craft (1961) were looking for a new car for the mail-box page. I took this photo of my '52 Chevy which had been a bank, given to me in 1954 from a sales manager from Chevrolet. The photo was taken with a Kodac "Brownie" camera...This was my first custom car wish I still had it!

Jon Cole Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Oldest model pic I have is a pair of British aircraft. Spitfire, and a Lancaster: The oldest car model pic I have is this '74 Camaro. IIRC, I made the body mods from cardstock. Most graphics were hand painted. Edited April 7, 2015 by Jon Cole
Roadrunner Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 One of the very few photos I have of a car I built as a kid. I have others, this is just the only one I have readily available. Photo by my father, and I was probably 14 or so at the time, I really don't recall.
Johnt671 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 These models were built in the early 80's. They are the last builds I did until December of 2013.
Roadrunner Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Nice Mustang! Do you still have it? No, unfortunately it's long gone now. Since the same kit is available again though, I'll be doing another, very similar to this old one, but hopefully a lot better than what I was capable of back then.
Scott Colmer Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) Either this one: ...or this one: Great pics! I forgot about the black and whites! I love looking at all the old builds. Great days back then! Oh. And the building materials; Card stock. Lots of putty. Better than back issues of Car Model. Here is one back at ya Christopher.
