martinfan5 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) Figured with what it took to get a correct parts kit, I might as well build it. Paint will be VW blackberry Work on the engine Wheels were painted with Alcald Aluminum and then some dullcote Attention to the interior, getting the seat decals on and completed and after a coat of dullcote to kill the shiny of the decals Completed dash Edited April 10, 2015 by martinfan5
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Those tires look awful! Is it just flash on them, or is the one on the left actually deformed?
1hobby1 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Awesome start! Can't wait to see this one finished!
GeeBee Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Those tires look awful! Is it just flash on them, or is the one on the left actually deformed? I think he's rested them up against the other two tyres to take the photo .....
Roadrunner Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I'll be interested to see what that color looks like on the body.
aurfalien Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) Wow, talk about blast from the past, rims and all. I had one after high school. Although the Golf GTI rims looked diff and were all the rage back in the day. I recall lifting GTI parts to put on my type 1 Scirocco. Man the new one looks like a squatty Golf, disappointing. I always loved the type 1 and its predecessor that never was being the Tyfon or whatever. i remember reading about it in VW&Porsche mag and totally drooled. I even had a 49 state Scirocco meaning no smog fromage, awesome! At any rate, very very cool subject matter, sorry to diverge! Edited April 13, 2015 by aurfalien
Zarana-X Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Fantastic start. Shame the kit doesn't have the correct snowflake wheels for a GTI.
dublin boy Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Alloy wheels would have been optional extras back in the day, the Cabrio version has them though.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I think he's rested them up against the other two tyres to take the photo ..... Oh! That would explain it!
martinfan5 Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 On the tires, there are three to four tabs(what you are seeing in the photo) on one side of them, I had not removed them yet when I did the mock up shot, but they are gone now. More work on the interior body painted, had some debris in the paint so it has been wet sand and will get another coat
Taxdude Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Loved my first gen VW GTI...can't wait to see this completed

Ridgeback Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Looking really good.colour is one of my favourites. We had a mk3 VR6 in that. The mk1's over here came in black, white, silver, red and green.A very rare colour was metallic grey.
peekay Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Looking fabulous already, Jonathan - love the colour choices.
martinfan5 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 Getting close to finishing it up got the all the striping decals on kind of hard to see I know Grill and front bumper and with the wheels and tires on, I still need to go back and pick out the lug nuts. The ride height does seem a tad bit high, but I know the 1:1 had high ride height.
