Please let me know how old this kit is and whether you found the kit to be in pretty good or horrible condition - don't spare any punches - your info could decide whether I'll buy one or not. Thanks!

That's a 1966-vintage AMT Annual Series 3in1 kit, as reissued about 16-17 years ago. Walmart had them boxed in that checkerboard pattern in the early 2000's.

It's a repop of the '66 annual and was available in teh Countdown series.

It's typical mid-Sixties AMT ware, so not bad, but miles away from newly tooled stuff.

So relief chassis, hovering alternator, no power steering pump, let alone A/C.

You can build it into a very attractive model, though.

And not, I take it, one of the more modern toolings from the 80's and 90's?

IF you buy it and find it to be in "horrible" condition, you could simply return it.

As others have said, it's a nice kit from the 60's, just don't expect much detail in the chassis or under the hood.

Like has been said, it's typical '60's annual kit reissue fare. You can make a nice model out of it, though.

This kit has a one piece chassis with metal axles, typical early 60's construction. If you like the outside but want to spruce up the underside you could use the chassis from the 65 Galaxie, it might not be 100% accurate but it's miles ahead of what it's got.

i remember an article decades ago that covered the process of converting the platform chassis to more-or-less full detail for a Grand National stock car build. I wish I could find the book it was in; it was of the era when we had to use INDEX CARD for sheet stock, shellac for sealing it for painting, as well as detailing how to shellac a styrene body for automotive paint... I used as much info as I could recall to gut the platform chassis under the '63 Mercury to build a stock car when that model was reissued around '95 or so.

Not even one-and-a-half hours of rummaging down in the dungeon, and I found it.

Typical AMT 1966 model. Nice body (and the molds seem to have held up pretty well), but not much on underside detail.

I think I'm gonna use the kit custom parts and build a "typical" mid-'60s mild show custom of some sort out of it, just for nostalgia's sake.

If I ever build it, I'll go for an out of the box stocker, in a dark colour, like Caspian Blue Metallic, or Olive Mist Metallic.

It's a nice enough car allright, and I like it, but not "Special" enough for me to go berserk with detailing.

I have several and they look great done. Yea, the chassis detail could be better (the 66 Galaxie could be used, but you need to stretch it a bit) The way I see it, my kits are not displayed on their roofs

It's this typical 60s AMT warmed over promo chod. Very charming and full of character, it can be made into a nice model, but it won't satisfy the discerning anorak.

I just wish they'd reissue a broader range of these old annuals, than the same five kits over and over, like they deemed sufficient for the past 40 odd years.

I think they're just working with what they have. So many of the more desirable models were turned into AWB funny cars, dirt trackers, or wild customs back in the day, which is a real shame for us now.

To be fair, we got most of the Galaxies back over the recent years. The '58, '59, '67 and '68 being the notable exceptions.

But for example, I can't believe all Lincoln tools were butchered, yet the only one they dump on us until we can't puke it anymore is the '65 convertible.

I think a 60s Lincoln hardtop is well overdue, especially in the shade of the "In Time" movie, that featured oodles of them.

What about all the other full size barges, like non-66 Mercurys, Buicks, Imperials, etc? Have they all been cut up?

We're missing the '62 Galaxie also.
