As I was born in 1959, what about '59 cars, but not the always-and-everywhere present Chevys and Cadillacs, something different instead:

Here are 3 former X-EL promos, repainted in the mid 80's, done "old-school" (no BMF, just silver paint), bodies with spray cans I had at hand in colors I thought that would fit for these land yachts.

Therefore not strictly stock, as all three have interiors from the '60 De Soto (I didn't like missing interiors - better wrong ones than nothing at all) - so all of you nitpickers will have something to talk about.

Anyway, despite several shortcomings, they make ok shelfmodels when looked at from a distance - here we go:

Plymouth Fury HT

and finally the De Soto Fireflite 4 Door HT (# 3)

Remark: License plates for all 3 are from an old 1961 auto world self-sticking license plate sheet.

Three fabulous looking 59s there, exactly the sort of thing I'm into. I have all three and am slowly doing something similar with them. I agree totally about the interior - better inaccurate than nothing at all. Here's the other X-EL 59 Mopar which I haven't started on yet. Note the colour scheme.

Beautiful Helmut!

I'm working on the '59 Plymouth as we speak, so I'll get back to you on that one. :)

I do however, have the X-EL '59 Dodge & a Model King reissue of the '59 Imperial.

I have the X-EL '59 Desoto hardtop as well that I began converting to a 2 door convertible many years ago, but due to the lack of an interior, I never finished it.

Both the '59 Dodge & the Plymouth that I'm working on, have Modelhaus resin interiors. Actually pretty nice ones!

Thanks Steve,

but my models are actually junk compared with those of you - incredible, your Dodge with those spinner (?) hubcaps, the correct interior, the perfectly applied BMF and that gorgeous paint !!!

Your late '50s models are among the most beautiful I have ever seen in the last 30 years, period.

The Imperial is also in my stash (2 x), together with about 350 others that are waiting for being built - and I should restore several of my old builds, too (the 3 above, for example) - too many kits, too little time!

Here's a couple of mine ...... The Imperial was restored from an old built up.

The Dodge Royal Lancer is from a X-EL promo re-pop with a slightly later model dodge interior added.

I have the X-EL 59 Desoto as well and a restore-able 59 Plymouth that I'll get around to one day.

Beautiful stuff Steve!!

I especially like the Dodge!

Just thought I'd toss on a couple of Modelhaus resin interior pics for the Dodge.

His interiors are actually very nice!

Better than most early AMT interiors & even later Johan examples.

There's even the suggestion of a transmission tunnel, which the '60-'61 Johan kits lacked! :)

Well, here is another one, not quite a 59 model, but at least introduced in the fall of '59 and in my opinion one of the best looking US cars of the era:

1960 De Soto Adventurer HT from JoHan - my first rattle-can paint job in 1983...

Nice one Helmut!

I guess if we're allowed to do fall of '59, I could add these. :)

Totally amazing - as always - Steve!!!

The '60 Dodge is my favourite of your quartet, but each one looks very impressive!
