StevenGuthmiller Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'll pass too. The only front quarter stripes I've ever really liked were these. Steve
pharoah Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Yep,just for the Corvette and Cobra. They just look wierd on a truck.
Tom Geiger Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I don't get it either. I guess everyone got bored with the peel and stick port holes?
iBorg Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Always struck me as a weird design element. The stripe breaks up the flow of the car, sorta of a stop sign to the car's natural curves.
Daddyfink Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 They only work on certain cars And this is not one of them......
Petetrucker07 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'll pass. Not much of a band wagon guy myself.
Scale-Master Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 They've been on my car since before it was a fad. Left side only...
Deano Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Aw, man! And here I was gonna put those striped on every car I own including the 53 Plymouth!
Petetrucker07 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 They've been on my car since before it was a fad. Left side only... I'm sure it came from the factory that started it, Mopar.
Atmobil Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I can also make my own "fart-stripes" (fart is the norwegian word for speed)
Casey Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm sure it came from the factory that started it, Mopar. IIRC, it was something a race team started doing in the '60s, to make the car easier to spot for the team's sign holders(?). http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion/2882175-question-about-the-history-of-grand-sport-stripes.html
Nitrozilla Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The Challenger SHOULD have been the Charger and no amount of stripes is gonna fix that. Hmphhhhh, four door Charger. Kill me, kill me now........
Harry P. Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 They've been on my car since before it was a fad. Left side only... Ok, I give up. What's the meaning?
Scale-Master Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Ok, I give up. What's the meaning? I'm not sure what you're asking. What's the meaning of the Rally Stripes on a Camaro? What's the meaning of Hemi Billboard graphics on a 'Cuda? What's the meaning of Rocker Stripes on a Mustang? What's the meaning of a Bumble Bee Stripe on the back of a Mopar or front of a Camaro?

I figured there was some sort of meaning to that. You know, like wearing an earring in one particular ear, etc.
lordairgtar Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 It was to identify GS Corvettes during a race where numbers were blocked form view of the spotters for the particular team. numbers often were blocked from view by other race cars.
Jon Haigwood Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) They are called "pit strips". Mostly used for racing teams to id which car was coming into the pit at road races. Only on the pit facing side. Some times yellow was used to denote a Rookie driver. Would be OK to use on a road race model. They were first used on a Cobra at the 1963 Sebring FIA Race Edited June 2, 2015 by Jon Haigwood
mk11 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Yawn. I'm bored with the new fad already. I'm just waiting for someone to inject 'back in the day' into this subject somewhere; another fad that was like fingernails on a blackboard for me long before I heard it the first 2500 times...
