Modlbldr Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) Bob- What kind of fit issues? Thanks, guys, for the kind words. The paint is MM Sublime green. The photos make it much more of a bright green than it is. I'll take some.outside photos when finished to see if it looks more accurate. Later- Edited July 4, 2015 by Modlbldr
c-plane362 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Day 2. Body is painted, frame is complete and painted, engine is together and primed and interior is ready for foil and detail painting I just might make it. We will see
Sean W Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Well, as of 8:00 pm this evening I have a completed chassis and interior. My first attempt at painting the body, what can I say? FAIL I airbrushed MM acryl over silver enamel, heavy etching of enamel basecoat, BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH! So, I stripped the body and hood, and shot primer, and this is where we sit as of now.
Sean W Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Hey Rob M., I love the weathering on the chassis for the '57 Chevy! That looks great.
Modlbldr Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Those look great Scott and Sean. I will be back at the bench soon. I have company right now but after that.... Later-
JTalmage Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) Sorry for the late update. I don't get on my PC much during the weekend. But here's where I'm at so far! I've had some pretty big gaps in building the past few days. Had errands to run friday, and went to the junkyard today for some parts for my Mustang... but the project is still coming along nicely. Here's the kit so you can see it was fresh out of the box when I started Did a lot of cleanup on this old kit.. and it needed it. Got the body primed Look closely enough, and you'll see FOUR Mustang's in this picture LOL Another shot of primer And a light first coat of Tamiya bright red So Friday evening when I put the first coat of red on it, it was VERY humid out and my paint hazed over. So I resprayed it all today and it looks fantastic. It's already in clear. Not sure if I want to use the decals from this kit or not though.... if so then I'd have to clear it again So then I very carefully white lettered all of the tires... and I mean CAREFULLY! Then shot them in flat clear. Edited July 5, 2015 by JTalmage
JTalmage Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 A couple pics of it mocked up... this thing is gonna look sweet! Let me know what you think.. and there's some great work going on here so far folks!
Petetrucker07 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I've been fighting with plug wires the last couple hours. I finally got em on. I also got the glass installed. I hope to get the undercarriage assembled and do final assemble in the morning to wrap this up.
Modlbldr Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Looking great guys! JT- I like that a lot. I'm getting through some of the slow phases tonight. All of the little detail painting. I've got the wheels on and I'm about to attach the interior bucket to the chassis. Pictures soon. Later-
Modlbldr Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 This is the current ride height. Not good. The rear will be easy to adjust. The front, not so much. But I'll keep at it. Still have tomorrow. Later-
Petetrucker07 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Looks great man. The undercarriage is done. The interior has been installed.
Jantrix Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Hey Rob M., I love the weathering on the chassis for the '57 Chevy! That looks great. Thanks Sean. It's very simple. I've decided not to distress the paint. The green looks great, so I'm going to foil and decal, and then hit the whole body with some flat clear.
Belugawrx Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Awesome paint Jesse Lookin' good guys Back at it today
knarf Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) i am managing to make some progress today Edited July 5, 2015 by knarf
Modlbldr Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) Looking good guys. I like the way my engine turned out but the detailing on the seats leaves a lot to be desired. I guess that's what I get for trying to paint the yellow in my dark garage in between chatting with friends after trying a lemon drop martini and a mojito last night. I may need to go back and touch them up, if I find time. Later- Edited July 5, 2015 by Modlbldr
Belugawrx Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 So this was it yesterday around 4:00 Back into primer and paint And got some work done on chassis I'm letting the shell dry awhile before decals,... I might even finish this....(I said MIGHT)....don't want to jynx anything Keep 'em goin' Cheers
DaveM Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Everything looks great. Nice save, Bruce! I wasn't able to build this weekend, but that doesn't mean I can't cheer you all on. I really wish I had been able to participate in this. It looks like everybody is having a lot of fun. We just got her back from the hospital, and she is doing well. I made her a quick lunch and she looked right at me and said, "The hospital has better food." I guess medicine doesn't have a cure for that! We will be busy during the week, but I will probably treat next weekend like a three day build. If nothing else, it will get a kit built. I will call it the "All by myself Weekend non group build!"
Belugawrx Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 good news Dave Glad she's feeling well enough to get home
Petetrucker07 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Great news about your mom Dave. I'm on the home stretch. Not much left to do.
TimJ Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Good to hear she's back home Dave. Great work guys. I've got the body clear coated and most of the decals on. At the moment I'm working on detailing the door panels then it'll be BMF time.
Modlbldr Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Finally a little something to break up all of the green. Upon further inspection I just realized that I am missing one tail light! Now for plan B. Later-
Jantrix Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Well guys I'm throwing in the towel. Model building is not the most ergonomic of hobbies and after three days my back is doing some complaining. So rather than make myself miserable for next week I'm gonna call it. Not to mention the wife is appreciative. I'm taking her out to a nice expensive dinner. Here's where I am. Also a concern is the enamel paints are still kinda soft. I just gotta finish the foil, the dash, and just final assembly. I'm kicking around the thought of hitting the body with some dull coat after the decals. The paint is too much of a semi gloss for me.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Lookin better and better. That green is too cool. I'm gonna go ahead and call mine done! A good cleaning, a once over, then outside for the under glass pics. Underhood.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Hey Rob, are we titling our under glass threads anything special?
