1972coronet Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Last issued in 1979 as a 1980 "annual" . That's probably the only tooling that's left ; I don't believe that it's ever been modified from stock . I have one that I bought ~1 year ago . Although the box doesn't allude to it , parts to build a (close-enough to) stock version are included ( Rallye Wheels ; stock tyres [albeit , still styrene ...] , and stock engine [ which , for 1980 , would be a 318 ... a ripping 120hp 318 ! ] ). It would be nice to see this kit again . Does the tooling still exist in useable condition , Round2 ? Edited June 24, 2015 by 1972coronet
1972coronet Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 See my edited post . Your photo is better ; at least one can see the "Stock and Custom Building Versions..." text on the box's side ( lower-left in the photo ) .
Sledsel Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 HAHAHAHA.... We posted them at same time also. I'd like to see this also.....
Darren B Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 they may bring them back what I want them to bring back is the fiero kits!!! this one in particular. sorry to get off track
ranma Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 HAHAHAHA.... We posted them at same time also. I'd like to see this also..... This is the kit that became TJ HOOKERS / Rosco's/ Joker's goon car, 4dr cruiser.
disabled modeler Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 We need more of the old MPC kits to get reissued or refurbished...maybe they still have some that have not been modified from the original issues...? It would be nice to be able to have some of them and others that have not seen the light of day in over 20 years or more...might as well dream big right..?
Tom Geiger Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The MPC Volare... yes, the tool would be that 1980 square headlight car. There's one on eBay right now for (gasp!) $120

There's one on eBay right now for (gasp!) $120 I would NOT spend big money on that kit right now (not that anyone would spend $120.00 on one!). If that tooling still exists in half-decent condition, I'm sure we'll see it....eventually. Edited June 24, 2015 by pack rat

If that tooling still exists in half-decent condition, I'm sure we'll see it....eventually. and honestly, it's not that great a kit. Plastic tires, faint detail in the interior, chassis and engine bay. I just finished one and spent a lot of time adding things to make it presentable. I believe the tool exists, I spoke to Dave Burket a few years ago and he wasn't interested because he didn't see a demand for the kit. I suggested the Duck Tape drag car, but the drag parts weren't in the kit. It would sell better as the earlier model car, and I don't believe it would be that much work to back date it. Sledsel Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 All I know is I want one. No, not paying $120 for it tho. I'd love to see the EXP again also. They were nice kits.
jbwelda Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 >I spoke to Dave Burket Is that how his name is really spelled? I ask because you keep dropping his name but you always seem to misspell (?) it. thanks jb

Not sure about that one, how many people are old enough without being too senile to remember those things anyway? I haven't seen one in person in a couple decades now! 1972coronet Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Those 1977-1980 Volare kits were certainly better in many respects than their 1971-1976 Duster / Demon / Dart Sport predecessors ! Heck , at least the Volare kits had the 727-A Torqueflite (which matches the automatic shifter and the pedals on the floor !!) , and much better underhood contents ( WOW ! Is that a brake master cylinder that I see ?? Apparently the aforementioned A-bodies weren't 'blessed' with that feature , not even the incorrect 1966 & earlier master cylinder ! ). The air cleaner assembly is reasonablly correct (versus the 1970 & earlier "340" air cleaner in the Duster , et al. , kits) . I will concede that the interior bucket is lacking in door panel details . Other than that , it's a nice kit .
ChrisPflug Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I love the Volare kits- have all the variants and multiples of the 77 "new Volare" , 77 Super Pak, and the yellow '79 Stock version is pretty nice but the "custom" parts are a joke. Nice factory stripes through '78 (and the promo contract?) Wish they would have included the later "horizontal" quarter window louvers for '78 and up or made the spoilers and flares for the "Fuzz Duster" more like something usable for a Street Kit Car or Super Coupe project

I haven't seen one in person in a couple decades now! I'd want to build the Glidden Pro Stock and some fictional ones also. a nice Turbo or SHO powered one would be cool. I see one everyday cuz I drive it. But I am weird too.

I ask because you keep dropping his name but you always seem to misspell (?) it. thanks jb In his handwriting... man should know how to spell his own name. I've known Dave for 30 years, way before the whole Model King thing... Pretty picky for a guy who always puts the dollar sign in the wrong spot? The correct way: $4.00 The way you do it: 4.00$ America Often?

Some of the kits of that era were really nice kits. The EXP, Dodge Omni, Chevy Cavalier to name a few were very nicely detailed and went together reasonably well. I just don't know if the world can absorb another 10,000 of each of them. I'd love to know how well that Dodge Daytona sold a few years ago. I know dealers were giving them to shows to use as door prizes.
mike 51 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) How well would models of some of the worst cars ever made sell? Very poorly would be my guess. Edited June 25, 2015 by mike 51
Ben Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Here's my favorite Volare! I got lucky and found a mint, sealed one for 100.00 and I just bought a box stock, built one for 130.00. The guy that built it did an incredible job!! Perfect paint, flawless build! I have to reattach a few parts that came loose in shipping and then I'll post it here.
Tom Geiger Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Ben, I'm happy to report I bought all my Volare's back when they weren't worth anything. One I just checked for reference on a point someone made above has a $12 price sticker on it. I have a few more, at least two of each year. I doubt I paid more than $20 for any of them. I was going through a junk box at a show and found at least 6 Volares. The dealer told me he was into them when they were new and he painted those to represent factory colors. I think I paid $3 each for them. I had someone on a message board who wanted one of them badly, so I just mailed it to him. Funny thing.. same car was offered to me in trade maybe 6 months later by another person!

I bought 6-7 of those '88 Daytona kits for myself when RC2 reissued it last.
