I have included here since it relates to model information, not the club meeting.

Revell stopped by our GTR Model Car Club meeting last night and brought some built ups and test shots. Sadly, I only had my cell phone camera so I don’t have the greatest pictures. Brought to our meeting were built ups of the Starsky and Hutch Ford and BMW I8. A test shot sample of the Porsche 918 was also brought.

The BMW I8 looked pretty good, and has engine detail (for what it is). The doors can be posed open or closed. Apparently it will come to the USA only in the Revell of Germany box.

The Starsky and Hutch built up is not the box art model. The delay has apparently been with the Chinese partner on correcting issues. The built up does not have the fixed rear side glass, but it is supposedly included.

The Porsche 918 contained parts for both the street and race version. Each kit will be unique and will initially be in the RoG box only. Revell USA is looking at boxing the street in a USA box, but not yet definitive. In the picture with the wheels tree, the upper set is the street and lower set the race. Again, each kit is unique and will be race or street.

Tower Hobbies has the i8 listed for a late Aug release for us here in the states.

Already out in Europe. I THINK the Porsche is September in Europe and, perhaps, November here (in RoG box).

Yes it is, thats why I said for us in the USA ;) , its also out in Japan, in fact, Hobby Search is sold out of it already , HLJ does not think the kit exist.

I made a typo, its listed as early Aug

Just as an FYI, Tower shows early Sept for the 918, we shall see.

HLJ seems to be slipping on new stuff lately. I wish Hobby Search offered a Private Warehouse option as well. I suspect you're into the Porsches. I am not. But it is nice that this type of kit is being produced.

I wish someone at Revell...somewhere in the global entity owned a set of functioning calipers, because the i8 looks to be a gem of a kit that's has pedantically small wheels....as USUAL. I hope that Hobby Design, who has a track record of providing more gooder wheel/tire solutions to RevellAGs Ferrari kits does a set for this kit.

Just gonna agree with this, more so on the "gem of a kit", minus the wheel/tire size, it looks very nice.

agreed. The wheels are too small.

Overall, the BMW Looks pretty good. I am no fan of the brand, but this one i grabbed as it came out.

I really like the slotted mags the S&H has. Might be worth it just for that.

Question, if I may.

Why does it matter that the kits mentioned (other than the S&H) will only be available in the Revell of Germany box? Not being a foreign car type builder I honestly don't understand. Does the make them more expensive here in the US? That I could understand. Sorry, clueless person here.

Thanks,

Russ

Russ, the Revell Of Germany kits are considered imported kits in the USA, so because of importing them, yes, it does increase a cost a little bit. Often times, Revell does rebox them , but often times, like with the most of the Ferrari kits, they are stuffing more into the USA boxes than they can hold, and bodies get deformed. Revell Of Germany serves all the markets outside of North America.

I am sure I might of left something out.

For example, the recent VW Golf/Rabbit kits are $39.95 US MSRP for the RoG version and $24.95 US MSRP for the US Rabbit. The RoG kits do tend to have better decals than the US, so depending on what you can find them for they might be worth it.

Jonathon hit it right on the head. And, yes, many of us have had to deal with deformed bodies stuffed into US boxes. Revell explained that if they can fit in a US box, it can be done much cheaper. If a bigger box is needed, price goes up and could negate the benefit.

About three years ago, when RoG was looking at reissuing Italeri's Ferrari 250GT, I brought US Revell my 250GT from the "stash" so they could determine if they could US box it (I live only 11 miles from their HQ). The answer was no because of how the sprue trees were structured. But it became moot when RoG and Italeri didn't work out a deal and the reissue faded away.

The small tires / wheels of the BMW i8 are exactly what they are in real. Because of that the i8 is a hybrid it has narrow wheels.

I got my i8 last week and I totally can recommend the kit. The details and parts are awesome! It has 131 parts! Never had a stock car (without any extras) with this amount of parts.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is scheduled in Germany on 1st of July.

I browsed an LHS today and saw the "new" ROG kit of the 2001 Chevy Impala police car. It was priced at $35. :o

Same kit in the US Revell box was about $15 - $20 in most recent issues. And, remember . . . it is a SnapTite kit.
