502 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Awesome job on the camper top. The weathering looks really good also. This thing would look so sweet laying frame.
Scale-Master Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks guys. I started painting and weathering the camper shell. It was easier to just brush paint the silver and black parts than mask and spray them.
Scale-Master Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks Ira. I added the 2X4 across the front (styrene) and the bar across the back (brass). I also added the black rubber accents that were in some of the aluminum trim.
wayne swayze Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 You're doing a great job with this build! I love the scratchbuilt topper! Keep up the terrific work.
Scale-Master Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks guys! I installed the pop-up vent and a screen below it. It has the screw jack rod too.
slusher Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Awesome looking camper top. I believe you can scratch build anything Mark..
Scale-Master Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks Carl. All the windows have been installed…
hotrod66c10 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Cool build. do you still have the old work horse?
Scale-Master Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 No, I sold it a couple years ago; for $300.00 less than I bought it for. It held its value very well.
Scale-Master Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 The wheels have been cast in resin, painted and weathered. The tires are Desert Dogs that I sanded the lettering off of. The size and tread pattern is a good match for the Remington’s I had on it. I’ll add the sidewall lettering and center caps later.
Tom Geiger Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Great work, I'm hooked! Mark do you have any photos of the real truck or are you running off memory? And what happened to the truck?
gatorincebu Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Looking good on this one.The topper is really looking good. But I personally think it needs a surfboard on the roof ! lol Be Well Gator
wrecker388 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 This is a good looking old Chevy so far Mark! My grandpa had one so I have a bit of a soft spot for them.
Scale-Master Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 Great work, I'm hooked! Mark do you have any photos of the real truck or are you running off memory? And what happened to the truck? I sold it a couple years ago; for $300.00 less than I bought it for. It held its value very well. I do have photos I'm using for reference. I found a bumper from an old Revell Custom Parts for Vans kit and modified it a little to look like the one on the truck. I also made all the bumper stickers for it. Took me a lot longer to make them for this than it did to slap them on the real one… And one for the front bumper… The tire lettering and center cap decals have been applied.
slusher Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Great attention to detail Mark. Very realistic work...
mikemodeler Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Coming along nicely Mark, as usual, awesome detail work!
Tom Geiger Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 No, I sold it a couple years ago; for $300.00 less than I bought it for. It held its value very well.I once had a 1978 LTD II that I bought with 95,000 mile on it for $800. We drove it up to well over 200,000 miles and sold it for $1500.
Scale-Master Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Thanks Guys! I added the decals to the windows of the camper and the screw details around the windows. Edited July 30, 2015 by Scale-Master
Davewilly Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 looks pretty good...I like what you did with the wheels
