JS23U Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) Here are some pics of the 1974 AMT Ford Pickup I built earlier this year. The kit is a 1976 Star Truk with a spare 1973-75 grille that I had in my parts box. Mostly out of the box except for the mirror supports. I raised the upper windshield trim and added some trim around the roof for the drip rails and the two tone paint job. I built a Lesney version as a kid and liked the kit ever since. Although from modern standards it is quite simple in several areas. Nothing spectacular in the engine bay Thanks for looking! Edited July 22, 2015 by JS23U
Davewilly Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Looks pretty good....looks just like the one around the corner from my house
JS23U Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 While I was building the model someone posted this pic somewhere here on the board: By coincidence the paint scheme is exactly the same on my model! I wish to have a kit with the standard long wheel base. It just looks right...
Ron Hamilton Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Very nice build!!! I really like the color combination.I have the same model, and I am having a dilemma with mine. I am either going to shorten it to a 6 1/2 foot bed F150, or modify the bed into an F250. I started with a built-up, that I cleaned up, but put aside to build one of the Mobieus' '69's.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Top Notch!! You have captured this classic for sure!! Great Work!
gatorincebu Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Real nice job on one of Americas favorite trucks! Be Well Gator
peekay Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Nice work, I like it a lot! I have that kit but am now distracted by the Mobius '71.
disabled modeler Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Very nice Jens....I built those kits as a kid loved the camper top issue...shame they do not re-issue it for us.
Ben Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Now you just need one of these slide in campers to go with it!
disabled modeler Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I agree with Ben...campers are nice additions to pickups,etc.....I am always looking for more of them for mine.
Chuck Most Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Now you just need one of these slide in campers to go with it! Leave off the tailgate and that camper body will fit this kit's bed almost like it was meant for it. I know this because I've tried it.
Tom Geiger Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I bought the '66 Chevy pickup with that camper on it at Wally's. The camper is okay if you are satisfied with a curbside camper. The windows you see are painted black, they aren't open. The unit is held together with screws, and when you unscrew the whole thing, the interior is full of screw posts and such. It would be a real chore to clean that all up well enough to put an interior in it.
JS23U Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks for all your kind comments!I've never seen this diecast, will look for it. Is it an authentic camper?Someone really needs to make a good slide in camper, styrene or resin.
disabled modeler Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Nice looking Camper Special Jens! I really like the color combo! I have a '77 with the topper that I want to build as a Camper Special someday.Yep that is the one with the factory topper...its nice.
Tom Geiger Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Here's the camper in detail for those interested: i
gatorincebu Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Really nice job on this one, You did a real fine job on replicating the factory stock vehicle. Be Well Gator
Dominik Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 one of my alltime favorite Pick up. Really nice work!
bbowser Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Model King re-released the camper and "Racers Wedge" kit a while back, very nice detailed slide-in camper. Your truck is awesome by the way!
Platerpants Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 someone say camper? i shortened the camper base so it would fit in almost any bed without tailgate removal.
