av405 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I was looking at the Tower Hobbies website recently and came across this page for a 1/25 Bld/Dsply Security Car (Crown Vic): http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFATV&P=W#techMy brain tells me that it's just going to be another reissue of their 1996-1997 Crown Victoria (which was re-released just a few years ago). But does anybody have any news on it and if it may be a new model?
Danno Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 There's been no indication that Round2 would tool anything new, let alone another old Crown Vic (what with all the Lindberg reissues and the new tool Revell snapper), let alone market it under the Lindberg name. The safe bet is that this 'security car' is another reissue of the old '96-'97 Crown Vic from yesteryear.
martinfan5 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Monkey see, monkey do. ?? Revell did the Build And Play version, so Round2 follows up and does a reissue of the Lindberg versions , hence, monkey see, monkey do

Art Anderson Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Consider that the owner of Round2 invested a TON of money to buy up all those existing AMT, MPC, Ertl and Lindberg tools--surely he'd like to recoup that investment by reissuing such kits as can be made from them, before sinking any significant funds into new tooling.Art
av405 Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Does anybody know how the last reissues of the Lindberg CV kit did? I still see a lot floating around. At this point I'm just waiting to see what new decals/equipment they are reissued with, if any.
Danno Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Here's what the R2 website says: BUILD & DISPLAY SET - SECURITY CAR SERIESItem No: HL123Release Date: June 2015Lindberg re-introduces its line of Crown Victoria models with a new spin and an added bonus! av405 Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks Danno! Here's the picture from their site: Based on the picture, it's pretty much an exact re-issue of their state police series, but with the "security" graphics. So nothing to celebrate Well, at least the display case might entice some.
Sledsel Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Ironic part, the Revell kit "looks" identical. A comparison is in order.
av405 Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Somebody did post a comparison thread. I can't find it right now. But the Lindberg kit is far superior to the Revell kit.

Tom Geiger Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Monkey see, monkey do.Nothing new here. When Revell came out with the 49 Mercury, Round 2 reissued theirs. There will be people who will buy the older AMT kit just to do a side by side comparison. And then there will be those who heard about the new Revell release and bought the wrong one! Here's a story. On anudder board, there was a guy who obviously isn't all that well informed, who posted that he wanted a Moebius Ford pickup. He went online and ordered one... then he realized he bought the MODEL KING Ford pickup. It seems the only Model King kit he had ever bought was the old AMT '59 Imperial kit. He didn't understand that it was a repop of an ancient technology kit, and equated it that Model King sold thick, clunky kits. Once he saw that, he never bought another Model King kit! (note that he totally missed the bus on what Model King kits were) He was really upset, thinking he was going to get a Ford pickup to the makeup and quality of that original Imperial.Of course that was followed by a tirade paragraph about Model King being a big greedy company getting rich by taking advantage of the little guy. It took a couple of posters to set this guy straight. I just wanted to illustrate how far off center some folks can get!
Bob Ellis Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 The 1979-1989 Crown Vic would be interesting to me.
Sledsel Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Monkey see, monkey do.Nothing new here. When Revell came out with the 49 Mercury, Round 2 reissued theirs. I was fine with AMT releasing their Merc after Revell cuz the Revell kit sucks.
bismarck Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Trunk Monkey. That commercial was a SCREAM!!! LOL!!
av405 Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) Thanks Casey. Looks like they really decided to go cheap on this re-pop. They're using the oldish North Carolina Highway Patrol pre-painted car as a base, although the Alabama scheme is on the box. Whereas on the last reissue there were about 5 different pre-painted variants. I would have thought that advertising it as a "police" car would be more marketable than a "security" car but who knows what was behind the decision. Edited July 31, 2015 by av405
