JTRACING Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 hey guys, been working on this one, want to build it up nice as Baker was one of my favorites, i wasn't around to see him in his prime racing days but I loved him on TNN as an announcer! heres some progress, Im just gonna start detailing the engine next, I have most of the suspension and chassis together, just need to add rear shocks and the interior details.
Belugawrx Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Looking great James!Window net looks cool, what is that made from?Cheers
JTRACING Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks! I used aluminum house window screen, it looks like rope and you can bend each strand, masking tape on the edges.
Len Woodruff Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Nice. I have one of those on my list but with a resin 69 Charger Daytona.
bbowser Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Great start, keep it going! BB was a true racing legend, on and off the track, RIP.
JTRACING Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) heres the plug wires I'm going with compared to the kit supplied one (in yellow) which seem way huge to me. if they ran 8mm wires on the real car that comes to around .019inches in 1/16 Edited August 26, 2015 by JTRACING
'70 Grande Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'll be watching your progress. Your work looks great so far!

IJ001 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 That is looking great ........... beautiful work Completely agree, with John on the work here, also like you, I moved my only Buddy Baker car close to the top of the 'to do next' pile in the last week or so. Looking forward to seeing this one progress. Ian.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Looking forward to seeing more of this one. Great Work!!!
Truck parts Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Great start and I will be following as you go
Bob Ellis Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Was there any tube framing on the chassis? Considering it is a unibody.
JTRACING Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 (edited) Was there any tube framing on the chassis? Considering it is a unibody. they built the roll cage into the body Underneath is is basiclly stock Edited September 2, 2015 by JTRACING
Bob Ellis Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 JTRACING, those are great reference photos. I guess you could say the roll bars are an integral frame? I was surprised that they used that much stock parts. I understood Ford stopped using stock bodies after the switch to Fairlanes that had a unibody. That is why I asked.
DrKerry Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Looks great, awesome detailing in it so far!!!!
horsepower Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) heres the plug wires I'm going with compared to the kit supplied one (in yellow) which seem way huge to me. if they ran 8mm wires on the real car that comes to around .019inches in 1/16 this is the first picture I've seen of the old "NASCAR" Holley four barrel carb in quite a while, I've also seen this carb used on racing 427 Cobras, surprised to see it in the competition Cobra kit from Revell. horsepower Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Excellent job, I really like the worked on look you've got going on the front clip. These cars were actually using Packard 440 solid core stranded spark plug wires, before everyone started using bigger wire, probably more like 6 mm in diameter.
horsepower Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I bought one of the Petty versions before they announced that they were releasing the K&K version, would anyone be interested in trading a decal sheet for the Petty car for a K&K set? The wife kind of balked at spending another $50 on a kit for a different decal sheet.
JTRACING Posted September 6, 2015 Author Posted September 6, 2015 I ordered the aftermarket decals for this one, much nicer than what comes in the kit.http://www.mikesdecals.com/product_info.php?cPath=8_14&products_id=3178
horsepower Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Thanks, I thought there was a set out there, but this will save me from searching for them.
JTRACING Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 i got the body painted and decaled, Used the awesome Powerslide sheet!
