SteveG Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I finally finished it..... I started this one back in May with an early production sample courtesy of Moebius Models. Other then some kits bashed whitewall and battery decals, it's an out of the box build. Everything else was done with paint and foil trim. You can see the build up in the "On the workbench" section. I'll let the photos do the rest of the talking. If you missed the build up you can see it step by step here ...71 Ford XLT Pickup build up Thanks for looking and for following along !!! -Steve
asfastasu Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 That's beautiful. I really want one.......................but I can`t justify the $50 for a kit. Although I`ll probably give in
wayne swayze Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Fabulous showroom stock truck! I really like it!
towman1271 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Great color choice.. All around great build
Mr Stock Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Beautiful work Steve, very clean build and i love the colour choices, how well does the hood fit once its all together ?.
bbowser Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I was on the fence about this one but you just pushed me off , now I have to have one! Great model.
peekay Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Beautiful job on this Steve! Perfect color choice - can I ask what brand that metallic blue is?
SteveG Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Beautiful job on this Steve! Perfect color choice - can I ask what brand that metallic blue is?It's custom mixed PPG lacquer to match 71 Ford code Q winter blue metallic. I'm lucky to live within reasonable driving distance of a PPG Paint supplier that still has a lacquer mixing unit. Handy but expensive ....I'm curious on what paints are available in Europe. Is lacquer still sold there ?Steve
SteveG Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Beautiful work Steve, very clean build and i love the colour choices, how well does the hood fit once its all together ?. Since I was painting the firewall body color I went ahead and attached it the cab early in the build. I had to do some minor adjusting to the top of the firewall to align the cowl to the hood rear edge. Also my hood had the slightest twist to it. Nothing that some hot tap water and some counter twisting could fix. Best to catch that stuff early then waiting to the final assembly. I think it fits great now ....Steve
kilrathy10 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 That is just too awesome.....Too awesome.....

Switzerland and the EU are very restrictive about solvents and everything seems to be acrylic or enamel. You have to have a tradesman's licence to get restricted paints - at least that's how it was when I had professional access through my job in the grafics industry. Since then I use Zero from the UK and am currently trying out Gravity from Spain - I believe both paints are acrylic lacquers, whatever that means.
mikemodeler Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 That is a nice looking truck! Great colors and well detailed.
SteveG Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 Thanks everyone for all the nice complements on the Ranger Pickup. I forgot to include a chassis shot so here it is ..... It's not noticeable in the photo but I did remove the lug nuts from the spare wheel and drilled out the lug holes. -Steve
