FordRodnKustom Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I just shot some pics of my copy of this kit for a discussion on another board, Thought I'd drop it in here in case anyone was curious about this kit or has never seen one. It looks to my eye to be close to 1:24 scale. My father built one for me when I was a kid and it was my favorite toy. I put many miles on it running my back yard and living room "roads". Enjoy.
Art Anderson Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 The Hubley 1960, 61 and 62 Fords were 1/24 scale.Art
disabled modeler Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 NICE...! I use to have one of those...very cool...they also made a wagon of it too.
High octane Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Yes, I would be interested in a wagon if I ever came across one. I remember those kits from "back-in-the-day."
Sixties Sam Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Nice kit! Being a four-door, it would make a great police car.Sam
Dave Darby Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Oh, if only the tool still existed.... Those would be some fun slump busters.
unclescott58 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I want one of each. A '60 Fairlane sedan. And a '60 Country Sedan wagon.
Tom99 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I have a 1960 Hubley Ford Fairlane, and a Country Sedan promo station wagon in my collection. You don't see either one very often.
Atmobil Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Cool looking kit, maybe it would be possible to make castings out of one?
disabled modeler Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I love 4doors and wagons always looking for more...from my dads old stuff there is a 61 wagon shame it got busted up badly and missing a lot its really cool. Hubley kits were neat but the promos warped badly but the kits seemed to be less prone to that...nice find your lucky.
John Goschke Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Fortunately the kits were molded in styrene, so they didn't warp like the acetate promos. The kits and promos have undersized wheels and tires, more like 1/25th, however, Hubley's rendition of the '60 Ford full wheelcover is far better than AMT's somewhat flattened version.
Edsel-Dan Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I have 3 of the Promo of the wagon, and fin ally got a Built of the kit.I have a Box for the Fairlane Sedan!!!I too wish these could be re-issued. I have Sedan & wagon 61's, but Neither is completeWorse, Wagon was Cut open to Pretend to be a Ranchero!!!Still a 4dr, and with second seat!!! Both 60 & 61 Sedan kits would be Correct Andy Griffith Mayberry Sherriff car!!!!!!! I know the Rolls, Mercedes, and "" were re-issued by Entex, and others, but, What Did happen to the tooling for these Fords??????
ChrisBcritter Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I've wondered about that myself. I wonder if the '60 tooling was modified into the '61 and then '62 wagons? I have a '61 wagon that's been in progress for about 35 years - paid $9.00 for it at an Old Town Escorts swap meet way back then; also a '62 promo wagon that isn't warped much. The kicker is I've seen a Ford Motor Company photo showing promotional models of its 1963 line - and there was a '63 wagon. Wish I could find that photo...
disabled modeler Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Chris...the 60 and 61-up were completely different cars no chance they used the 60 tooling to make 61-ups due to that. I really like these old Hubley kits. Id love to find the parts to repair my 61 wagon I am a 60s wagon and 4 door nut anyway. A 63 would be cool..! Edited September 11, 2015 by disabled modeler
Ron Hamilton Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I have a rather whipped '61 wagon on the stash. I would love to use it, and do this...http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg59/RonHamilton/Long Roofs/1963FordCountrySquire2_zps45b919de.jpg
Casey Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Oh, if only the tool still existed.... Those would be some fun slump busters. Is that wishful thinking or is this a known fact? Hubley has been more or less forgotten and disregarded when it comes to plastic kits, but I'd be interested in reading what happened to any and all of Hubley's plastic model molds...or were the '60 Ford Fairlane Sedan and Station Wagon the only two? I'm assuming the AMT '60 Ford Starliner (after the chassis stretched is used) would be an ideal frame/floorpan/suspension donor for one of these bodies?
keyser Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 They did 60,61 sedans, and 60,61,62 wagons. I've got all the wagons, 62 hardest IMO.They did the Rolls Cloud and TR3 in 1/23rd ish that still are floating around. I forget what else, but would pop all the wagons again for sure. All the promos of same warp badly, but they did nice job on the Ford kits. Cool box art too. MIB 62 wagon kit went for huge money on the bay awhile back. 300+ iirc.
Ramfins59 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Hubley also did a Nash Metropolitan. One recently sold on EBAY for crazy money.
keyser Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Here's box art from the auction. $282 sold. Forgot about Metros. They were really nice, a bit big but really well done.
Edsel-Dan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Their Triumph kit Built just ended todayWas under $20.oo last I looked.I know the Rolls & Mercedes were re-issued by at least 2 different companiesAfter Hubley.I almost bought the Rolls in Pittsburgh as an Entex kit,but got the Estes Flying Klingon Battle Cruiser instead.(I already had Enterprise and AM a Trekkie)I Think Minicraft was the last to offer the Rolls. They had 2 box art, One a Phnatom "Squire"Woody!! After this time, I Would guess only those tools are left, and the Fords were scrapped.Afterall, The Rolls, Mercedes and Triumph would sell better in Europe & AsiaOr the "New" owner would think so back then ??Late 60's-early 70's??

Me I am a 60s wagon nut just love them sir.
FordRodnKustom Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 Looks like there was Mercedes in the mix too?
keyser Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 We forgot about the Dauphine!! I found pics of an SL, kinda lumpy but that was it. Entex issued that iirc. I'm thinking the gassers may be familiar here
sjordan2 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) Hubley's Mercedes roadster was a well-done if oversimplified kit. Their Rolls Silver Cloud (supposedly the only promo ever authorized by Rolls) is another matter-- while the body shape is quite acceptable, it's loaded with flash, terrible mold seam alignment, wide gaps in the opening hood and trunk, undersized tires and a blob of an engine. And the Flying Lady mascot is ginormous for the scale. All of this remains in the Minicraft reissues. Minicraft's "Phantom Squire" version tosses in ugly stickers to build a woody; They even issued that one with a misprint on the box saying it's 1/16 scale -- wrong! It's the same 1/24 kit, and I have it. There never was a 1/16 kit of this car. Edited September 13, 2015 by sjordan2
keyser Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Skip, I do think the SL was OK, and was only option for a long time. Not trying to start the usual drama by thinking the windshield is tall and narrow, and the car is a bit rotund. Not much, and it pulls it off OK, but the windshield hurts. Not too hard to drop posts, but harder to reposition uprights and make new glass. The Rolls can be built into a nice 7410 Mulliner Park Ward drophead. Or at least be a 80% completed project. Sides are a bit deep and lots of tweaking needed, but nice. http://www.vantagemotorworks.com/pre-owned/1964-rolls-royce-silver-cloud-iii-h-j-mulliner-convertible-lscx283-67484-miles/# This is Cloud III with quad lights, but same body. Same site has nice 300SL roadster that may (or, around here, may not) show my issue. Dealer has great references for building the Cloud standard sedan too. Wish someone did a BC47 Continental fastback.
