StevenGuthmiller Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Does anyone have any info on what's going on with BMF & their original, or "New Improved" chrome foil? I've noticed that there isn't any to be had lately. Model Roundup, where I usually order mine, hasn't had it for quite some time. I just opened up my last pack & if any of you know me, you know that may last me for a couple of months! Just wondering if anyone had heard any news as to when we can expect the return of the "good" foil. Steve
Art Anderson Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I just bought a fresh sheet of the stuff at my LHS, not more than 3 weeks ago.Art
MGL Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 My LHS hasn't had any in some time, I too tried to get some from Model Roundup with my last order but they were out of stock. I am expecting a delivery from HobbyLinc http://www.hobbylinc.com/plastic-models this week. I just checked and they still show it in stock at $6.34 a sheet.
Harry Joy Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I have found BMF to have spotty availability. My local shop couldn't get any for a few weeks mid-summer, and I couldn't get it online either. About the same time I found it online, it showed back up at the hobby shop. The shop got some again just this past week.So like any good hoarder, I bought some even though I had plenty. Guess you can blame me for some of the shortage.
slusher Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) Did you look on ebay Steven for any?? Edited September 21, 2015 by slusher
snacktruck67 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Steve, tons of it on ebay under bare metal foil.
Jantrix Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Order direct. That way you know you are getting the freshest stuff.http://www.bare-metal.com/

Brett Barrow Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 They had a problem with one of their machines which took a little time to fix and stocks were depleted. They are now back up and running. We have plenty in stock at the moment. http://www.megahobby.com/originalchromebaremetalfoil.aspx
Edsel-Dan Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I checked ordering directly, Shipping on One sheet was $12.oo!!NO way!!!!!!!!!Even if they Had Scotty's Transporter from the Enterprise.!!
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Steve, tons of it on ebay under bare metal foil. Thanks guys! Yes, I had thought about ordering some from ebay, but I balk at that because I have no idea where it's coming from or how old it is. A lot of what I was seeing on ebay was the old packaging. It didn't even say "New Improved" on the packaging. Could be stuff that's 10 years old. Order direct. That way you know you are getting the freshest stuff. http://www.bare-metal.com/ I see now that they have it on their website but as Daniel said, after adding shipping it's a little more spendy than I'm accustomed to. They had a problem with one of their machines which took a little time to fix and stocks were depleted. They are now back up and running. We have plenty in stock at the moment. http://www.megahobby.com/originalchromebaremetalfoil.aspx This is what I was really wondering. I assumed that stocks had been depleted for some reason. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick it up from my usual sources by the next time I need some. I was mainly hoping that it had not been discontinued for some reason. I can't live without my foil! Steve
Harry P. Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 One sheet of foil: $6.75Shipping one sheet of foil: $12.There is something very wrong when you charge the customer double the price of the product just to mail it to them.

Of course, one should never let facts get in the way of a good rant.
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 $10.29 with standard shipping is what I'm seeing.Still a bit more than I'd like to see, but possible in a pinch.I usually order a couple of sheets along with a bunch of other stuff from Model Roundup to help ease the pain of shipping costs. Steve

Harry P. Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Has anyone here ordered direct from BMF? How do they package the stuff? Does it arrive undamaged?
Art Anderson Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Has anyone here ordered direct from BMF? How do they package the stuff? Harry P. Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Good to know. I've never bought it directly from the source... maybe that's the way to go.

You're paying a LOT more for packaging and marketing than you are for the brown sugar-water. (2 liters of the no-name stuff for 50 cents, and they STILL are making a profit...)

martinfan5 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I get BMF from Ebay, never had issues with the qualtiy of the sheets, and few of the sellers I order it from either offer free shipping , or about $2 for shipping, I have never spent more than $9 on a sheet of BMF ordering it online.
