afx Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 Just tuned in to this one, love the scale-engineering-to-427-spec updating you're doing. The first Cobra I ever drove was a 427 sitting on a long-gone used-sportscar lot...Grand Prix Motors...not far from Ga.Tech where I was in school. I had a Porsche-engined VW bug, and stopped in to look at the Cobra...they wanted $6500 for the Cobra and offered me $1500 trade for the bug. And...they let me drive the Cobra. I recall going down the 14th street entrance ramp to I-75, accelerating pretty hard, and thinking that every time I shifted gears was rather kike getting hit in the back with a 40-pound sack of potatoes. Years later, I had the opportunity to drive a restored 289 FIA car, and it made the old stock 427 seem tame. Thanks Bill. I guess you walked away from the 427. Yea I understand they pull hard. Here are specs for a street 427, 70 MPH in first gear - not too shabby. It's a shame Shelby never got the chance to develop the 427 like they did the 289. Would have been interesting to see how good it could have been fully sorted.
Speedfreak Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) 480 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm (est), that's where the potatoe sacks come from. Edited December 14, 2015 by Speedfreak
Dann Tier Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I knocked off the tops of the pins on my body leaving just a bit there to locate where to drill. After drilling them all out I sanded what was left flush to the body. That's the issue finding something in scale.JC, I know ive already responded to this, but I think I came up with something to replicate those 1/4 turn fasteners!! I thought of it while working on another Cobra Super Blower for a friend. use the washers from MCG's bolts/screws set, get some thin wire that will fit into the washer, and flatten the end of the wire with smooth pliers (like you would do if you were making your own toggle switches), then shape it with a sanding stick or file!!
MeatMan Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Fantastic attention to detail, and patience!

I made the toggle switches on the dash with this very method.
afx Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 The car ran with auxiliary driving lights for Sebring. Lights are white metal items from the now defunct R&D Unique. Jack points are from HRM. Excuse the tape holding everything in place.
65slotcar Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 project looks great ! i have been out of modeling for a while, what is a Sunny cobra? the body looks perfect !
afx Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) project looks great ! i have been out of modeling for a while, what is a Sunny cobra? the body looks perfect ! Thanks Bill. Sunny and Academy have both issued this kit. Its is a 427 kit based on the AMT 289 chassis. I'm converting this same kit into an FIA roadster. Here is that build thread. Edited March 17, 2016 by afx
65slotcar Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 great info, does the sunny kit build up better then the monogram 427? from the picture on the box it doesn't look very good. small tires sticking out past fender

I wanted a 1:25 scale 427 to fit in with the rest of my Cobra builds which are focused around the 1:25 scale AMT kit.
65slotcar Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 got it. they all look great. need to get going on mine.
Randy D Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Hi JC, Love the look of those driving lights!!! Randy
afx Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Thank you all for the interest in the project. We have color! Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf.
afx Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Well, unfortunately, the screwup is with CSX3016. The red and blue stripes that are attached to the numbers need to be reversed. The one on the right goes on the front - the blue stripe should be on the right. Dummy me... Get some Silver Mink on your model and if the revisions have still not come back I will sell you a set with the extra stripe segment from my personal sheet (doing the Targa and SF cars) if you dont mind chopping up the stripes a bit. The caveat is that you have to send me some good pics when it is done that I can use on the website. Steve Steve, are the Big Block Snake decals ready? We have paint.
GTJUNIOR Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Is it me or is there something not right at the left rear end of the body?
afx Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) Not sure what you are seeing Tony, but I see no problem Edited March 26, 2016 by afx
Jhedir6 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Steve, are the Big Block Snake decals ready? We have paint. I see what he's saying JC. The left rear looks bent in, but its just an optical illusion cause the truck is opened up. Great work. Love your Cobra's. David

Love your Cobra's.DavidAfter looking at it more closely, I see there is no problem, as David said ,optical illusion due to the angle of the photo. My apologies if I caused you any unnecessary stress. Paint looks fantastic.
