Lowlife ! ! Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Thought id stick up my latest build, I was after a new project and fancied building a rod. Most of my completed builds end up getting stripped for parts ( no competitions in England ! ) so I decided to wreck this.......( the ONLY thing i`ve built that isn't slammed ! ) Only really using the body, the rest will be used up one day........More soon....... Lowlife ! !
Lowlife ! ! Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Started with a scratch built frame, only had thin plastic so made 4 rails and stuck 2 pairs together. Couple of crossmembers and we have this ! Quick mock up, nice and low as usual............
Lowlife ! ! Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) Liked these wheels, out the spares box, so im adding 40 ford rear brakes ! Engine is a 409, again out the spares box. Made up engine mounts and it now looks like this.....Oh and im using the silver axle above, not this one.... More soon, thanks for looking in ....... Lowlife ! ! Phildaupho Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I really like the original version but there is not much cooler than a channeled hot-rod.
dodgefever Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Have you contacted the IPMS UK chapter near you and see if there are contests? http://ipmsuk.co.uk/IPMS over here is largely military and aircraft builders who look down their noses at people who build cars and trucks. Sweeping generalisation, but they seem to have little interest in cars, much less hot rods.

Lowlife ! ! Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Thanks guys, yes the IPMS is, as far as ive heard, mainly military based around the UK.So my cars get finished (occasionally ! ) go on my shelf, then usually get broken up ! I save the detailed ones, but for me the fun is in the building ! ! .........
Skip Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I'm liking what you're doing and where you're going with this one. Far too many of us are afraid to step out of the box and do frames, it's your build so I'm not going to critique your design. I like your concept, the original model was really nice, I think the finished Roadster you're building has the potential to be really stunning! Love the 409, "W" heads are Cool!
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Love the first version. Just screams "salt flats".The slammed one is shaping up nicely too.Old hot-rods never die...they just get recycled into new hot-rods. Edited November 4, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
DumpyDan Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Looking good, keep it going. I went to a UK IPMS show last year in Birmingham and there was about 10 cars that included the 2 I entered.

I went to a UK IPMS show last year in Birmingham and there was about 10 cars that included the 2 I entered. That's a real shame. However in my eyes thats all the more reason to enter. If no one steps up and complains and trys to compete, nothing changes. The model is looking good. Kinda sad to see that cool roadster get cannibalized though.
