Casey Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like this, and the design still looks futuristic today. Stunning. http://www.carscoops.com/2011/01/ebay-find-luigi-colanis-1970.html Edited November 18, 2015 by Casey
LDO Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Some guy posted that on the HAMB a while back. Said his buddy just bought it. Got a whole bunch of profane "How does that relate to traditional hot rods?" replies.
Casey Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 You were the first person who came to mind when I saw this, Lee. I don't want to the the "outside-the-box" cliche, so I won't, but somehow he made the transition from fantasy to drivable vehicle. I'm not really even sure how to describe it.
花火 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 don't mean to be unkind.. but how can a car like this complete LE MANS 24 hours..
Spex84 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Colani's designs were all so wild! Even if I'm not a fan of the particular shapes he might have used, I appreciate them for their sheer dramatic inventiveness. And yeah, a car shaped like a shoe from 1970 is NOT gonna go over very well on the HAMB, haha. There's a place and a time for everything...
Casey Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 don't mean to be unkind.. but how can a car like this complete LE MANS 24 hours.. Le Mans is a city in France. This car was purely a design study and show car, having no relation to the annual Le Mans 24 hour race.
gtx6970 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Kind of neat,,,in a weird sort of way.Based on the pictures I assume its a non functioning chassis ?
Casey Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Based on the pictures I assume its a non functioning chassis ?I think so. I see no "driver" controls at all, and the rear half of the vehicle appears to be completely sealed up with a dummy engine.
花火 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Le Mans is a city in France. This car was purely a design study and show car, having no relation to the annual Le Mans 24 hour race.thx for figure out that. Saw '1970' and 'Le Mans' made me think some 917 or 512..
Atmobil Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Very wild design. That would look great in my dream garage But I do wonder how Colani had planned that to work. Would it have front wheels that did the steering or would ti be hinged in the middle like a wheel-loader?
Casey Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 I would guess hinged in the middle, with some short tire up front, hidden under the tub on top of which the driver and passenger sit.
Scott Colmer Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I REALLY like that. Too bad it's so expensive for a big model.
Howard Cohen Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 This is another car that was toured in Europe by my friend Gerry Nimz (see Beer Barrel car). Somewhere I have a colour photo of it. I wonder if it was in the same collection as the other show cars. I see what I can find out.
Lownslow Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Some guy posted that on the HAMB a while back. Said his buddy just bought it. Got a whole bunch of profane "How does that relate to traditional hot rods?" replies.good ol hamb its like the automotive KKK without the pointy hats
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I've been a fan of Colani's work sinne sometime in the '70s. This is the car above, before it went to hell. Here's some more of his work.
