James2 Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Good point Rob, there is much to do before filler and rails!
carrucha Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Good work on the chop so far. Looking forward to seeing the finished build.
JustBill Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Way to go James. Glad you took on the project. I'm a little burnt out on all the things these old kits need addressed. I think the reward will be worth it though.

Working out of town I have time to fill and for $5 I can't really go wrong!
Dogfish_7 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Highly commend your chop and body work James.
James2 Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Some progress on the 40, final smoothing and fitting. I did narrow the hood just a bit and I'll be adding the drip rail next...
Ferbz Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Nicely done! You're right about chopping those 40's. I'm finessing the chop on my chopped/sectioned 40 at the moment. And thanks for the diagram! It's always valuable to see how it is actually done.
James2 Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 I got the drip rails on and I'm still cleaning up and smoothing things out. Here is a comparison shot with the Revell body.
James2 Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Getting ever closer to finished body and primed...
wayne swayze Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 The drip rails are beautifully crafted James! This will be a terrific looking car when you finish!
om617 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Great job on the chop,it`s coming along nicely.
James2 Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Mock up of an Olds engine and some better wheels. Primer is done and ready to wet sand.
John Goschke Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 A tough car to chop properly but this is looking great, especially with the replaced drip rails. Love that you working with the old faithful AMT kit.
James2 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) Custom mixed Tamyia Mica Blue and Clear with Violet accent top and bottom of fenders. Then cleared for wet sanding later. My lighting out of town is terrible! Edited March 2, 2016 by James2
wayne swayze Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 This is looking super fine James! That choice of colour is gorgeous with all the body curves!
Modlbldr Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 That is beautiful work you are doing. I love the paint job. I am currently working on a AMT 40 Sedan that I cut the top off of in the early 90's mated to the Lindberg Coupe fenders. Having a great time with it. Where did you source the tires and the steel wheels that you replaced? I am looking for a lower profile (than stock) wide whitewall tire with steel rims and beauty rings. Yours looks like what I need.Later-
