von Zipper Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Last week there was a gas price war in Houghton Lake Michigan . Prices got down to .46 cents per gallonhttp://fox17online.com/2016/01/17/no-joke-gas-is-47-cents-per-gallon-in-one-michigan-town/ Edited January 28, 2016 by von Zipper
iamsuperdan Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 here in bc, we pay about $0.38 a liter in taxes, & if you live in metro vancouver (luckily i dont!), they get the thrill of handing over another $0.10 per liter for transit tax....would'nt want the walking bums to pay more than a buck for the bus.... the stupidest thing is, most of our tarsands are owned by american's & the chinese. our stupid guvment sells our crude to china for approx $0.38 a liter, yet we're paying $0.90 a liter, talk about screwing your own country... To be a little nit picky, there is no tar in the oilsands. Big difference between tarsands and oilsands. On a somewhat related note, if the whole oil debate interests you, read the book "Ethical Oil" by Ezra Levant. I don't usually wade into politics or anything like that, but the book is pretty interesting.

High octane Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Is your 5 mpg truck a daily driver, or no?

Harry P. Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 i drive a 5 mpg truck,... What truck gets 5 mpg???
BIGTRUCK Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) The tractor / trailer I drive almost grossed out at 80,000 get 6 to 6.5. I know between 2nd and 10th gear as Im pulling it not good but once Im moving along I could get 7.., but5 mpg from my personal vehicle, that would have to change quick., and todays price near the house was $1.51.9 Edited January 28, 2016 by BIGTRUCK
iamsuperdan Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 sorry, dilbit, diluted bitumen and i have seen & read about "ethical oil", look at the map, this stuff goes right threw my town, i too wont go political, but E.L. is a bit of a wack-o in journalistic circles. the oil debate does not really interest me, i drive a 5 mpg truck, i just find it REAL stupid how we give our oil away & screw our own citizens. i also do not like how a foriegn company with a horrible safety record for spills, explosions & just general destruction where they go, (think Kalamazoo) wants to slam a pipeline of this dilbit threw some of the most rugged, pristine, un-touched, un-destroyed, clean, beautiful area's we have left on this ENTIRE planet, so another country can have cheap oil, while we pay threw the nose. we here in bc highly value our pristine land, we just dont want another northern alberta here Oh Ezra is definitely a nut. But his book is an interesting read. I'm with you on sending our oil and gas out of country. It makes no sense that we produce a ton of it, yet sell it to other countries for less that we sell it to ourselves. Makes zero sense to me. My job is based on trucks and vehicles, so I stay very aware of fuel costs and economy. And it's becoming more and more of a concern for my customers. And economy is always a concern when I'm choosing what to drive. Northern Alberta is a whole different world. Come a little further south, and we care about nature almost as much as BC! That's my previous truck hanging out in Jasper on a trip to see some clients the day before Christmas.
Atmobil Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 You lucky #¤*+|§!!Here in "the richest contry in the world" the fuel was at 14.88 kroner pr. liter today. That works out at 6.53$ pr. gallon and it is a lot of talk about hiking up the prices even more because here in our country the we have 3 million cars and our average milage is about 35MPG and apparently that is the main reason that the worlds climate is going to collapse. It is even talk of banning diesel cars and making it illegal to drive a car with an internal combustion engine in to a city center. If one drove the Ram pictured above here you would see ecomentalists coming after you with pitchforks and burning torches. Witchburnings would soon be seen everywhere. Here in Norway, one should buy a car only to make longer journeys and even then you should feel guilty for choosing to drive instead of cycling or taking the train. That is atleast what the ever increasing PC world thinks.I don't feel guilty for driving my car, but my wallets crys every time I have to spend 1000 kroner (115$) to fill up the 65 liter (17 gallons) tank.

1930fordpickup Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Many good point have been made here. Gas is normally lower in an election year and I love it. Paid 1.40 here last sunday. Dan I wonder why any country would sell a resource cheaper to someone else cheaper than their own people. Dan I know the bigger tires require a taller gear but why not run 4:11 gears.

1930fordpickup Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 haft to take that up with our guvment... The one here is no better in treating us.
iamsuperdan Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Filled up last night, and it's down to 64.9 cents/litre. Crazy. Milk, bottled water, Pepsi...all more expensive than gas.
Draggon Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) this truck....... Yea, but since you've got your house on the back, you save on mortage, property taxes, utilities, garbage.... seriously, though, that's quite a rig! $2.29 in Fremont, Ca a few minutes ago. Anytime I fill my Durango up for less than $50 I feel lucky. Edited January 29, 2016 by Draggon
Joe Handley Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Topped my 200 off with just plain old 87 octane regular after work tonight at the BP near the store, $1.51 a gallon!

Harry P. Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 You guys up there are getting screwed.
mikemodeler Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 You guys up there are getting screwed.Yeah, and if Bernie Sanders wins the election Harry I think we will get a taste of what our friends to the North are experiencing!
Joe Handley Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Hate to say it, but with the condition our roads and bridges are now in, we may need that gas tax just to get us back to where we were 40 years ago.
SfanGoch Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Hate to say it, but with the condition our roads and bridges are now in, we may need that gas tax just to get us back to where we were 40 years ago. Yeah....like 65% of lottery revenues in NYS were supposed to fund education. If the gas tax hasn't been used to maintain and repair either before, what makes you think that it'll be used for that later? There are potholes I know on a first name basis around here.
High octane Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 You're not alone as we've got potholes here also, PLENTY of them!
